Welcome, one and all, to Quest Givers Anonymous, a Hearthpwn Custom Adventure Competition! This is the Submissions Thread, where you enter your entries you've worked hard on. We are currently on Wing One.
Do not hold any discussion here.
If you were looking for the Submission Thread, head on over here.
You may also find it useful to ask a question or two on the Hearthpwn Discord. The mods are there and can try to answer any concerns you may have.
For those who have been playing Hearthstone for a bit longer, you may remember "Adventures", the singleplayer experience that preceded the Dungeon Run-based content we have now. Newer players may also recall the singleplayer content released alongside Knights of the Frozen Throne; that is an Adventure.
Quest Givers Anonymous gives you the opportunity to show off your card creation skills on a much larger scale. Over the next few months, contestants will:
Follow an outline based on the Blackrock Mountain adventure. Create two boss decks and a final boss deck for each wing. Each wing will take up a phase and each phase lasts 2 weeks. The fourth and fifth wings have 3 bosses and a final boss, instead.
A boss deck entails a mixture of cards found in-game, some custom-made cards, and, most importantly, the Boss' Hero Power.
Furthermore, Adventures have rewards! As such, for each boss, there will be card rewards for a player who defeats a boss.
Hopefully, this quick overview gives you an idea of what to expect going forward. Other more technical questions will be addressed in the FAQ section below.
As the kobold so eloquently puts it, this competition gives you an almost complete free reign, design space-wise. The only stipulation is:
Your entire adventure must be based around a quest or a journey of some sort.
This does not mean a boss has to use an actual quest card, though you can certainly do that, nor does it mean a card reward is a quest.
Essentially, imagine your entire adventure is one big quest. Or, perhaps, each wing is a single quest.
This is an opportunity to tell a story. You can use the little prompt Questing Adventurer and her new kobold friend here have laid out, or you can make your own. It is entirely up to you!
Posting Tutorial
This is a posting tutorial for the website imgur.com. If you use another website, the process will be similar.
It is recommended you use hearthcards.net to create your cards. Save the generated card to your device.
Upload the image to imgur.com. You do not need an account.
After your image is uploaded, many links will be generated. Find the "Direct link". It will have a .jpg or .png at the end of the link. Copy the link.
On your hearthpwn post, find the "Insert/edit image" button:
Paste the direct link. This is recommended but not mandatory: You may choose to make the image smaller by changing the image dimensions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly am I making?
You will be making an entire Adventure singleplayer expansion.
The number of bosses and card rewards are the same as Blackrock Mountain.
In Blackrock Mountain, there are:
For the Neutrals: 6 commons, 2 rares, no epics, and 5 legendaries. For class cards: one common and one rare for each class.
I have to follow the reward structure of Blackrock Mountain, but do I have to follow the exact order too? For example, Wing One has a neutral, a Rogue common, a Priest rare, etc. etc.
No. You can reward players with your cards in any order you want, so long as the class-neutral and rarity ratios stay the same, and you follow how each boss rewards one card per victory.
How do I present my creation?
You entire submission goes in the Submission Thread.
The Boss' portrait and Hero Power go in a spoiler. Boss decklists must be listed under the same spoiler. Use a separate spoiler for each deck. If your boss deck has any custom cards, they must also go in the same spoiler.
For each wing, you may present up to three cards outside of a spoiler. (Each wing will usually have either five or six cards.)
Furthermore, you are allowed a short paragraph introducing your Adventure, or continuing where you left off in future weeks.
In the past, due to a large number of entries, we'd have a public poll and a percentage of that phase would move on, while the rest were eliminated.
The public poll takes place in a separate voting thread, just like in a weekly competition.
Depending on the number of entries, we can continue to do that, or, if people prefer and there are fewer entries, votes will instead be accumulated throughout phases and no one is eliminated.
Am I allowed to work on future wings before a Phase starts?
Yes, but, there may be a challenge or an extra requirement thrown your way which might force you to redo some parts.
Am I allowed to work with someone else?
Yes. You may work with one other person provided they have a Hearthpwn account. You will need to inform the moderators before you team up.
Do I have to make heroic versions of each boss' Hero Power and deck?
No, but if you do, they need to be under a spoiler.
Some bosses have special mechanics, like starting with a card. How do I denote this?
Simply state that the boss does in its decklist spoiler.
Do I have to state which boss has a class challenge?
Yes.
Do I need to introduce a keyword?
No.
Do boss decks require at least one custom card?
No, you can have a boss deck with no custom cards at all.
Am I allowed to have additional fancy graphics in my submission?
You are allowed a single, simple banner. In the past, several talented individuals were able to dazzle voters with their artistic and photo manipulation skills. While the moderator teams wants everyone to compete to the best of their abilities, it was decided by the previous moderator team to not allow too many additional graphics. We will honour that decision. Whether a banner is allowed or not is up to the discretion of the moderator team. An example of an acceptable banner can be found here.
The exception to this rule are the dialogue boxes that pop up during Adventures and other singleplayer content. You may have a reasonable number of them, if you choose to add them in.
I have some ideas for extra things! How do I implement them?
"Bonus" or "secret" battles, sort of like the cow king: You can have bonus battles, but you may not break from the number of bosses you are supposed to do for that wing. For example, Wing One in Blackrock Mountain has 3 bosses. You may do two bosses and then one bonus battle, but not 3 bosses and an additional battle.
New heroes (like Arthas), card backs, etc.: You can add as many additional non-card rewards as you want. For the most part, these do not affect any technical aspects of this competition. These must be place under a spoiler, however, as having many of these would fall under having too many fancy graphics.
What are the real-life rewards?
You will earn the special silver card creator border and, as per tradition, you may accept an interview from the mod team that gets posted on the front page. Lastly, a small bundle of packs will be in order.
Competition Process
The Competition Process, as stated above, is slated to be one wing per two weeks with a voting period of 3 days, leaving a total of 11 days for card creation. Five wings will take a total of 10 weeks. This is a tentative estimate and the moderators will be continually monitoring the flow of the competition.
Phase One, Wing One: January 4th — January 16th Voting period: January 16th — January 18th
Phase Two, Wing Two: January 18th — January 30th Voting period: January 30th — February 1st
Phase Three, Wing Three: February 1st — February 13th Voting period: February 13th — February 15th
Phase Four, Wing Four: February 15th — February 27th Voting period: February 27th — February 29th
Phase Five, Wing Five: February 29th — March 12th Voting period: February 12th — March 14th

Adventurer! We need your help once again! Near Stormwind City, in mountains leading to Burning Steppes, unexpected earthquakes took place. Our scouts reported apperance of a giant hole, which is enlarging. They also said they heard whispers from it. We're not sure what that means, maybe that's true what they say, but maybe something made them crazy. But if so, we still need somebody to solve this problem. That person will of course get price. So?
Welcome to my custom adventure! I'll introduce it to you as best as I can, starting with my custom keyword - Whispers:
To explain how it works, I'll us in-game example: Corruption. So, let's assume that this card doesn't exist, and it's introduced in my adventure. With my new Keyword it will read: "Choose a minion. Whispers: Destroy it." (the only change is that this effect couldn't be removed with Silence). Also, Keyword is not the only new thing in my adventure. I also introduced a new race - Frogaen. They're big frogs moving on two legs, taller than dwarves, but shorter than humans. They're also smart enough to speak and build underground cities.
Dark Tunnels
Now, something to let you know what can you expect from this adventure.
Showcase cards:
Spider'n'Troubles:
I'm in trouble?
This works just like Discover, Choose One, Siamat or Zephrys the Great. You choose an effect, then that effect occurs.
First Boss: Terrifying Ooze
You expected that whispers will be stronger when you will enter a cave, but instead they began to be much more quiet. Soon, a cave splitted into smaller tunnels. You entered one, but suddenly a big ooze monster formed at front of you.
Just when you thought there's no life there, you saw a shape in the darkness coming to you fast. You draw a sword, but when it was closer, you saw a big frog running on two legs wich screamed: "Help me! It's Slithius!" After it, you saw a giant lizard.
After saving the frog, it decided to follow you. It introduced itself as Groag, and he told you about his race - Frogaen. He offered you a deal: He will lead you to his home, where you could gain help of other Frogaen, but you will protect him from dangers until that. And it looked like there were many dangers in these undergrounds. Soon after you fought a giant lizard, you met a banshee. When she saw you, you heard her voice: "Dougan? You're not my Dougan!". Then she started to scream.
"Above the Sky, in the country of the Angels, great troubles are taking place. After the attack on Dalaran, the people above the skies are now scared of the earthlings, and some began to question the autority of the King Melkhiel. Negociations were inefficient, and an insurgency took a city and claim independance ! Even if the King is open to discussions, the rebels are violent, and determined to destroy the Kingdom of the Skies, and you must stop them !"
This adventure is centered on the Kingdom above the Skies, a realm above Azeroth, and usually not interested by the events on the ground. But with the recent and terrible changes under the clouds the two worlds are now a little closer and the King Melkhiel ask help from everywhere ! In this adventure, you will fight rebellious and violent people from Azeroth, but also from the sky, and you will face some of the most powerful flying person ! Fly is a new evergreen keyword introduced in this adventure :
Now, into the adventure !
Wing One : The entrance of Al Merald
The King welcomed you on land, looking at the city floating above. He can surely fly to the entrance, but you are not gifted with wings, and so you must penetrate in another way. It will not be simple, but if you want to end this mysterious rebellion, you must take the front door, with all the problems which this option brings !
Showcase cards :
Boss 1 : The Dragon Tamer
First to go in the City, you must take a little elevation ! Fortunatly for you, even if you don't have wings, you can ride a dragon ! Well, if the Dragon tamer let you ride his friends, and you must convince him... With brute strenght, of course.
He has orders, and they are simple, nobody enter and nobody leave the city ! And if you want to save the city, he will be your first serious foe ! Him, and all the guards he has under his command, of course. And they are quite numerous.
Darian will begin the fight with the door on his side !
Who is he ? A mysterious and powerful person, indeed. He came to see who is causing such a mess at the entrance, and he does not like when a plan is foiled by some little nosey parkers !
"In the deepest forest lays a grove of emerald, a flourishing domain of ethereal peace. But the place has been cast in a gloomy slumber and there's no comming back for those who fall asleep. Hurry adventurers before the land despairs ! Come to follow your dreams and face your worse nightmares !"
This adventure is inspired by the Emerald Dream and Emerald Nightmare, as well as the events of the War Against the Nightmare. It will feature a new keyword : Phantasm which lets you add an extra copy of the card to your deck. Players would be given 3 copies of common/rare/epic cards with Phantasm and 2 copies of legendary cards with the keyword. The number of cards in a deck would still be 30 as Phantasm would only affect the number of copies of a card that can be added to a deck.
Wing 1: The Dreamgrove
Broll Bearmantle greets you in what used to be a verdant realm but has now been covered in a dense fog and cursed with slumber from which none can wake up. The worst part is that the sleepers are tourmented by horrible nightmares that leave them screaming in fear !
How can you put an end to this madness ?
Showcase cards :
Boss 1 : Dreaming Adventurer
This guy made the mistake of taking a nap and now he's trapped in a delusion that makes him see everyone as a terrible foe. It's an aggressive but somewhat random opponent who relies on powerful weapon strikes.
With this boss, you start to see the ones who orchestrate the terror. I want to push Stealth synergy a little bit since it's one of the less used OG keywords and it's also the core of this boss' strategy.
Watch out kids, that's what happens when you're sleep-deprived ! This druidess has been fighting against slumber for a bit too long and it's starting to effect her mind. Fittingly, her deck's goal is to bring the opponent to Fatigue.
After you defeat Sylendra, she snaps out of her hysteria and explains that her thoughts had been plagued since the fog engulfed the grove. She urges you to step deeper into the forest in search for the cause of this madness. What will you find in these Twisted Woods ? Find out next phase !
Ahead of You, Down the Path A Majestic, Magical Faire! Ignore the Darkened, Eerie Woods Ignore the Eyes That Blink and Stare Fun and Games and Wondrous Sights! Music and Fireworks to Light Up the Night! Do Not Stop! You're Nearly There! Behold, My Friend, the Darkmoon FAIL!
...
Wait... What? That's really a name of this set? Is there something that I simply don't get? Oh, the portal is closed. ... THE PORTAL IS CLOSED!? Everyone stuck on this land, I suppose! And after the week of fun and play, We'll soon be some hidden nightmare's prey! While we have time, we need to act, Or this cursed forest will get its snack! How will we make it? There is no pattern, There's also that creepy guy with a lantern... Soon you will make it! The sun will prevail, But right now welcome, to:
Brand new, Mysterious Keyword!
Every Hearthstone match up to this point took place during the Day.
Now, you can use some dark magic and play in the Night!
The Dark Lantern enables you that, but be aware that your enemy might not like nightmarish madness and can turn on the sun.
The Moonlight bonuses can be activated during the Night, but there are passive Moonlight effects aswell:
Haunting Wraith gets stronger each turn you've played in the darkness.
Now, into the adventure!
Wing 1: The Entrance
Boss 1: Goldshire Guard
The only obstacle for you to enter the funniest place on Azeroth. This gentleman seems to have a problem with everything, especially with some Horde he yells so much about.
What's going to happen next? How is the exit portal going to close? What is the dark truth about the Darkmoon Island? And who was that man with a lantern? Find out in next Wings of Darkmoon Fail!
I hope you enjoy it. Thank you in advance for any support!
Questing Explorer and her new Kobold partner return home to stock up on supplies for their journey. However, when Questing Explorer returns home, she discovers that a corrupt nobleman has taken over! She finds a peasant outside of the town walls who begs her to save the city.
How could she possibly turn down such an exciting quest?
Unlike the Mechazod Tavern Brawl, this Adventure Battle allows the player to create their own deck. Therefore, there are several things that have no effect:
Greetings, Adventurer! I am Mariscal Lord Garithos, time traveler and guide of the Human race.
In the ominous future I come from, a Horde of wretched monsters came from another world and destroyed our precious Azeroth. Many other calamities followed that invasions, and now Undead and Demons alike walk over once sacred lands.
That's why I came to this time: If we attack their world before they attack ours, History can turn very differently. Follow me through this portal and help me to claim Draenor in the name of the Holy Light!
Our first step is Terokkar Forest, home of twisted monstrosities like the Arakkoa.
"Tales of wonder, whispers the sea. Tales of plunder, robbery and thieves! Tales about pirates, burly and mean! And among them a Rogue engineer. Leading the Defias, the fearsome VanCleef! But as every reign of terror, condemned to fall. As with every failure, gold left behind. So who's the brave, who'll claim the treasure? Pirates from all nations, will raid Ironclad! But most of them are fated to fail. Mate, the path is such a treacherous trail! Through the Vile Reef you must battle, the Stranglethorn Vale you must survive! And only then the dreaded Deadmines you'll finally find! But be careful, because dead man tell no tales... about the treasures of VanCleef."
Adventure's Main Themes:
The adventure presents the Burst Mechanic, an ability that some minions have that let them make an special action whenever they want during your turn... but the catch is, that only once! So find the perfect moment to use a minion's Burst ability!
Don't you hate it when you topdeck a Preparation or a Deadly Shot when your opponent has no minions? With Resourceful cards you won't need to worry again that never! Resourceful cards, a new Treasures of VanCleef's cycle, are cards that will try to do one thing and, if they can't, will do another instead! As a pirate, you need to think fast an improvise! All classes have a Resourceful card, found in the Class Challenges in the adventure!
Wing 1: The Vile Reef
You've been told about the big Defias treasure by former member of VanCleef's band Captain Greenskin. He plans to hire you in his crew to get to the Defias' Hideout in Stranglethorn. But first, your ship needs to survive the Vile Reef, where other pesky pirates seeking for the treasure will fight you!
Showcase cards
Bosses:
Boss One: Ironpatch
As one of the main captains of the bloodsail bucaneers, Ironpatch would like to have a word with you about who gets the treasure! But worry not: if you manage to get away from his unending barrage of pirates and his swifty attacks, he'll reward you with two goblins from his tripulation (even though most likely you'll end this battle with less coins than when you started it!). Treat them well! Also, if you manage to defeat him playing his own game as a fellow Warrior of the sea, he'll honor you with two of his beloved hooks. He truly is a sweetheart on the inside!
The fearsome Observer came back with a fitting demonic tripulation, and he's as brutal as in his good days! Defeating him will teach you his deadly strategies, and defeat him again as a master of demons to upgrade your tripulation!
Just when you thought the rest of your voyage would be safe, Ironpatch returns, this time piloting the mighty dreadway! Worry not, as long as you keep his minions in bay you can use ballistas to pierce his defenses! Defeating the ship you'll be able to adopt some loyal parrots, and Ironpatch will cowardly decide to join your adventure!
Maybe Ironpatch has lost most of his crew, but the new toys he found in the Dreadwake can pack a punch! He plays a Mech Paladin deck with sticky minions that punish board clears, and a future card of the adventure! He got a Mecha'thun to avoid a tie if both heroes get out of cards, he'll only play it when the requirements are meet.
Hold, lad. There's an inscription on the dais. It's a warning. It says, "Whomsoever takes up this blade shall wield power eternal. Just as the blade rends flesh, so must power scar the spirit."
Hey there and welcome to a new custom adventure - Fate of Lordaeron. Some of you who have played Warcraft 3 might have already recognized the quote above – it refers to nothing else than the Frostmourne - the bane of Lordaeron, the dread blade of the Lich King. This expansion takes us back before the era of the Lich King as we know him, back to the last days of Lordaeron and the last days of prince Arthas as its defender.
This adventure will follow the old Naxxramas and Blackrock and thus feature no new Keyword. But what does it bring?
Return of Knights of the Frozen Throne mechanics – Being close to Icecrown and the undead Scourge some cards bring their mechanics back – namely Secret Deathrattles, Defile – style re-casting cards and of course - FREEZE SHAMAN!
New Mechanic - Though not a Keyword you can still Discover a new Mechanic for this expansion as you venture deeper into the cold north…
Fate of Lordaeron - Follow the story of Arthas and learn how he became the Lich King, or perhaps discover a different path and save the Kingdom…
Wing 1: The Landing
In pursuit of the nefarious dreadlord Mal’ganis prince Arthas gathered his army and without the knowledge or approval of his father – the King, sailed to the lands of Northrend. Now it is up to you to assist the prince in securing the supplies and find a good place to set up a base…
Showcase cards:
1st Boss: Scavenger Blargl
Arthas: Those damned murlocs are stealing our supplies, we have no time for this. Champion stop them.
Arthas: A perfect place for a ba…. an ambush! Defend yourselves!
Hidden minions:
Every minion Hooded Figure plays will appear as a Covered Figure. You will still be able to see a mana cost and a Battlecry effect. When the covered minion takes any damage it will reveal itself taking all the damage as normal.
Upon defeating the boss he goes Immune and reveal himself as:
Muradin Bronzebeard: Bloody hell! You're not undead! You're all alive!
Arthas: Muradin? Muradin Bronzebeard, is that you?
Rewards:
Hidden minion:
As with the boss himself - After you cast Cover Up and play a minion your opponent will see that minion as a Covered Figure. Your opponent will still be able to see a mana cost and a Battlecry effect. When the covered minion takes any damage it will reveal itself taking all the damage as normal.
It seems that I have 100% less Warcraft knowledge than evteryone here so I've gone ahead and based my adventure off an MMO I know enough about to design cards and encounter around, Runescape. The narrative of the adventure is based around events involving the Ambassador, a servant of an eldritch horror. Mechanically the adventure is themed around Black Stone, a corrupting and empowering material which manifests as tokens that sit in the player's hand, with the downside of damaging them at the start of their turn.
Wing One: The Black Market of Menaphos
Showcase Cards:
"Aha an adventurer! Just the kind of backup I needed. I've ended up enraging the beast while digging into some shady business on the docks, could you help me out?" - Madame Shih
Boss One: Quetzathog
"This thing was guarding some shady black stone that some smugglers were storing. Watch out! He's using it to attack us!" - Madame Shih
"What in Infernus was that thing? Look's like the portmaster is over there, maybe we can ask him." - Madame Shih
Boss Two: Admiral Wadud
"You've killed Rabid Jack's beast?! He'll have my head for letting you get to his stones. You're going to have to die for this to save my own skin." - Admiral Wadud
"Well he was no help, but if I had to put money on it, that spooky ship on the horizon is probably Rabid Jack's. Looks like we can confront him in person." - Madame Shih
Boss Three: The Albatross
"Arrgh what ye be thinkin interferrin with me cargo? Mateys. . . FIRE!" - Rabid Jack
"This won't be the last ye see of me." - Rabid Jack
"Good job fending off all of. . . whatever that all was. It looks like Rabid Jack retreated towards the island of Aminishi. I don't know if you were looking for an adventure, but there's something fishy going on here. I'll see you at Aminishi." - Madame Shih

Boss 2 : Shadows in the Mist
With this boss, you start to see the ones who orchestrate the terror. I want to push Stealth synergy a little bit since it's one of the less used OG keywords and it's also the core of this boss' strategy.

Boss 3 : Sylendra the Sleepless
Watch out kids, that's what happens when you're sleep-deprived ! This druidess has been fighting against slumber for a bit too long and it's starting to effect her mind. Fittingly, her deck's goal is to bring the opponent to Fatigue.

...
Wait... What?
That's really a name of this set?
Is there something that I simply don't get?
Oh, the portal is closed.
...
THE PORTAL IS CLOSED!?
Everyone stuck on this land, I suppose!
And after the week of fun and play,
We'll soon be some hidden nightmare's prey!
While we have time, we need to act,
Or this cursed forest will get its snack!
How will we make it? There is no pattern,
There's also that creepy guy with a lantern...
Soon you will make it! The sun will prevail,
But right now welcome, to:
Brand new, Mysterious Keyword!
Every Hearthstone match up to this point took place during the Day.
Now, you can use some dark magic and play in the Night!
The Dark Lantern enables you that, but be aware that your enemy might not like nightmarish madness and can turn on the sun.
The Moonlight bonuses can be activated during the Night, but there are passive Moonlight effects aswell:
Haunting Wraith gets stronger each turn you've played in the darkness.
Now, into the adventure!

The Treasures of VanCleef

Fate of Lordaeron

Horror From The Deep
It seems that I have 100% less Warcraft knowledge than evteryone here so I've gone ahead and based my adventure off an MMO I know enough about to design cards and encounter around, Runescape. The narrative of the adventure is based around events involving the Ambassador, a servant of an eldritch horror. Mechanically the adventure is themed around Black Stone, a corrupting and empowering material which manifests as tokens that sit in the player's hand, with the downside of damaging them at the start of their turn.
