The Gadgetzan Deck Recipes - They're Actually Preeetty Gooood
A user on Twitter asked Ben Brode who was responsible for the deck recipes because they felt that they were not good decks. Ben Brode gave us some insight into their winrates though and said many are at 50% at Rank 5.
Maybe they aren't that bad for climbing up the ladder after all. Check out the quote and all the deck recipes below! As always, if you're looking for some of the best decks, our site has you covered through our hot decks listing! Play around with the filters to find something you'd like to play.
Ben Brode on Gadgetzan Deck Recipes
Quote from Ben BrodeWho builds the suggested deck recipes? Why are they all so bad?
how do you define bad? Inaccessible to players with smaller collections? Can't make it to rank 20? 10? Legend? Bad theme?
FWIW I am F2P since before Naxx. I try the deck recipes that I have most or all of the cards for, and they perform terribly for me
at what rank? They aren't intended to be legend level.
low level. 20-15
we've seen 50% winrates at rank 5 with many of them. Which ones are giving you trouble?

These are all also available in-game when you go to create new decks.

Well, to begin with, Rogue did not get any good cards this expansion
They are all good starting points if you have no idea how to build a deck, but they all contain terrible cards and non-synergistic cards that need to be swapped out by the player before actually competing.
Sometimes the community reacts like the incarnation of babyrage. By far not all but still enough. U CAN use the deck recipes, its more like a insperation to newer players, but u dont HAVE TO use them. So why complaing about it? Get ur own brain working to fix them and s*** is done.
Tried to answered like a good politician but failed like a pizza courier:
"we've seen 50% winrates at rank 5 with many of them."
1. When it is said 'many' you cannot say if that relates to number of receips '9' or to how many people took the deck and played.
2. If many relates to decklists, this still does not mean that ALL of the decks even have 50% winrate at R5 (just many, and one can't say how much is 'many' in BB's opinion. Is 5 - many ? Is 7 - many ?)
3. They have seen 50% winrate, but this does not mean that the average winrate of the deck among all who played it at R5 is 50%. Once single person achieved 50% winrate - they can say that it has been seen.
4. It is not mentioned how many games was spent at R5 when the 50% W/L ratio achieved. 2 ? 4? 20 ?
All the BB tells us: "You know, some guys actually took some of those decks and got 50% W/L at R5".
It is quite strange promotion of a product like: "You know, some people who used to choose better products than this, have actually tried this one and they were not disappointed a lot, however didn't get any purpose of this either."
Then he asks "Which ones are giving you trouble?" The trouble ?
The trobule, b****, is real! You've just told us about it.
One could also give those decklists a credit if they would be relatively cheap, but they are not.
Some of the recipes even contain Legendaries and Epics which have lower synergy in the deck than if the deck would have been built another way with cheaper cards.
Some are terribly missing obvious mechanics required for the archetype: worst I guess is Shaman murloc deck with cheap cards and no draw at all, not even an oracle.
Druid Jade deck with no Auctioneer but with Lunar vision.
So you're saying he's guilty of talking like a regular person? Instead of simply saying "we've seen 50% win rates at rank 5 with many of them" he should have said "We've seen 50% win rates with specifically about 6.5 decks being played by 13 players of an average rank of 4 over x time period".
When providing numbers as proofs you can't just "talk", you must provide integral picture.
If you want to talk like regular person you can say "People are widely using all of these decks and successfully climbing with them up to rank 5". Doesn't it sound much better and straight and provides good advertisement of a product ?
But if they can't even say that - than that piece of content worth nothing (meaning the deck recipes).
If you can't talk straight and easily understandable and you also can't provide precise and integral data - you better not answer the questions on the game design analysis to mass media, right ?
He is not devil at all, but was never good enough to represent the game. He definitely needs to try harder that's in my opinion.
Also when you are saying that you are not buying something from me - you also say nothing on topic (HS deck recipes) or our subtopic (Ben Brode's messages).
You may want to at least give your personal perception of something important. Giving your opinion on my opinion does not make much purpose for forumers.
Making long story short my initial posts says that BB's get's into discussion giving very little value answers, he actually asks questions on obvious things, like assuming that there is no problem at all.
However it is obvious for player of average experience that those decks have significant weak points.
In some examples, (as you mentioned) while not being "cheap" for starters, the decks lacks draw or some synergy.
These recipes are misleading.
Starters will waste dust/money on cards they do not even need for the deck of the archetype they choose, even for the cards one may not need in current expansion at all (as some may be ok only in arena or brawls). Instead they should have released actual "cheap" recipes for the archetypes.
I consider such game design (misleading new players and wasting their resources) wrong.
Man it took you a long time to actually say something. Next time make that middle your first post. Makes you look a lot less asshole-ish.
Peace out girl scout.
His answers give little value, because the questions are vague "Why all recipes are bad, hurr durr?".
I think we have different views on the purpose of the recipes. I think they showcase new cards and let new players work with something playable. They were never created to wreck the ladder, hence the card replacements funcionality. If you can tell a recipe is bad just by looking by decklist, you are good enough to build your own deck without help. If you need a recipe to build a deck, you probably aren't going to play it optimally anyway.
Murloc Association is pretty crazy! Try it out. If you got the combos right it's insane. and most of the time you can easily draw the combo cards
So brode.. good job on expansion except for 2 cards... jade idol and patches. Hopefully fixed on day..
Jade idol would be ok if it was something like "shuffle two-three jade idols#2 which can only summon jade idol (cannot shuffle others 3-2 idols in deck)". because as it is right now, the jade druid can fatigue a control warrior if it doesn't want to kill the warrior with a 10/10 - 11/11 - 12/12, while in teory it sould still have the same synergy with Gadgetzan Auctioneer. After all, right now, you have to be absolute crazy to try to play control decks, since you will problaby get out-valued by reno's kazakus, dragon priest and jade druid.
