The Gadgetzan Deck Recipes - They're Actually Preeetty Gooood
A user on Twitter asked Ben Brode who was responsible for the deck recipes because they felt that they were not good decks. Ben Brode gave us some insight into their winrates though and said many are at 50% at Rank 5.
Maybe they aren't that bad for climbing up the ladder after all. Check out the quote and all the deck recipes below! As always, if you're looking for some of the best decks, our site has you covered through our hot decks listing! Play around with the filters to find something you'd like to play.
Ben Brode on Gadgetzan Deck Recipes
Quote from Ben BrodeWho builds the suggested deck recipes? Why are they all so bad?
how do you define bad? Inaccessible to players with smaller collections? Can't make it to rank 20? 10? Legend? Bad theme?
FWIW I am F2P since before Naxx. I try the deck recipes that I have most or all of the cards for, and they perform terribly for me
at what rank? They aren't intended to be legend level.
low level. 20-15
we've seen 50% winrates at rank 5 with many of them. Which ones are giving you trouble?

i tried the demons of the kabal recipe and its not really that bad infact am having so much fun with the deck and i even went with it on the wild ladder with 2 voidcallers instead of the imp streaked from 25 since i dont play wild that much to 18 .. again they are not meant to be competitive on the highest ranks but think of these decks as a break from the traditional decks u always see on the ladder
I also gave this a try for some daily quests and it was a lot of fun. I was surprised by how much the +3/+3 demon potion actually worked well a lot of the time
yeah they are fun to play :)
mage recipe is pretty good imo
people love to blame the deck/cards for not being able to pass low ranks. like a deck is supposed to automatically make them a good player. there were people who hit legend with priest before gadgetzan....git gud
The recipes this time are around definitely the strongest so far. The ones for WOG weren't too terrible either. I usually play a number of them each release just to see what they are like. I have used the Paladin, Mage, Hunter, and Priest recipes so far this time around and they are all fairly good even without modifications. After I play them a few games and figure out where I need to swap out cards to help deal with the meta they get even better. The most surprising one as far as how well it performed based on what it looked like on paper was the Paladin deck. It doesn't need much changing other than dropping Ancient of Blossoms and Don Han'Cho to get better defensive cards to fight the aggro warrior decks. It does really well against the Jade Druid decks.
Murloc Association and the Demon lock are actually pretty awesome. I've teched the shaman one with -2 tinyfin -2 murloc sniper +2 devolve +2 maelstrom portals and it works wonder. Also as a plus it WRECKS the dreadful pirate warrior.
If you have experience with this deck, would you say that Finja, the Flying Star is vital for the deck, he is the only one I am missing :) Oh and I will trying your little tweekk on the deck as well. :)
I also don't have Finja , but my murloc shaman still works.. But i think it makes the deck a little better, i've watched others with Finja, after it kills a minion , the 2 additional murlocs come in,then the Everyfin buff is cheaper by two mana.. By next turn, the opponent concedes..
I was wondering about that too. The deck is loaded with battlecries, so the main pro of this card seems to be putting minions into play without emptying your hand. Dream scenario when you have a board and pull a Murloc Warleader can't be happening often.
He's actually a pretty cute choice, since I think he's kinda slow for the gameplan. He probably would be better in something like Murlocadin combo than an aggressive deck, but I like using him just because I have the card (and because what else can be cooler than a MURLOC AND NINJA??).
The main "combo", if you manage to get at least 3 murlocs alive by turn four, is to Call in the Finishers, followed by 0 mana Everyfin is Awesome, buffing the entire board plus whetever you have, ready to attack. It doesnt happen often but is an instea concede sometimes.
i feel like these are the better round of recipes that are fair starting points to the new slue of cards.
Ive been playing with most of them and been tweaking and updating as i play matches with it.
50% winrate won't climb a ladder.
Yes it will thats the average winrate you need to reach legend
if its 3-3 you will climb with bonus stars
Actually, you will. Go Google one-dimension random walk. A random walk in the integer set is guaranteed to cross every single integer, given enough time.
Doing some rough math I estimate that from rank 5 it will take on average 1000 games to hit legend with a 50% win rate. This is based on the fact that if you flip a coin until you either have 25 more heads than tails or vice versa it will take 25^2 = 625 flips on average to do so.
Climbing ladder- depends, if you win-lose-win-lose... you are correct, you'll stay at the same number of stars. Let's say you win 3 in a row then lose 3 in a row, you'll climb still since your bonus stars will carry you in the end. It WON'T carry you to legend since the winstreak stars stop at rank 5.
