Thanks again for this amazing deck Straub!! Congratz on getting top 200!
I had a lot of fun playing your deck so I made a video showcasing it in all its glory. I hope you enjoy!

I really like the idea behind this deck. Being able to sustain trough multiple boardclear is something that was never really possible but with the portal as well as the Aid, I think that this deck can even compete against warlocks and warriors with a full set of clears.
I had a ton of fun playing this so I made a video showcasing the deck in action. I hope you all enjoy!

This deck is insane! The sheer amount of value one can gain while playing tempo is a bit ridiculous. If you are interested in climbing to 5 to be ready for the new set, I definitely recommend giving this a try, you will not regret it.
I made a video showcasing the deck in all its glory, I really hope you all enjoy!

I played this deck on stream for a few hours and we had an absolute blast seeing how almost no one seem to either be playing this or realize what we are playing which is extremely refreshing! I love playing new decks and this one not only is a blast but actually does well on the ladder too!
I made a video showcasing the deck in all of its glory, I hope you all enjoy :D

Hey everyone
With the next rotation about a month away I thought I would take some time to have a closer look at exactly what we’re losing from Standard and reminisce a little about the some of the decks we’ve seen over the last year.
Last year I wrote a similar thread about the 2017 rotation and you can find it here if you’re interested: https://www.hearthpwn.com/forums/hearthstone-general/general-discussion/181300-the-significance-of-the-2017-rotation.
Disclaimer: I know we don’t know what new cards are coming into Standard with Witchwood and the other sets. The idea here is not to predict the what the meta will be, it’s just a fun look back over the cards that have seen some level of competitive pay during the Year of the Mammoth.
For those that are still unsure, when Witchwood releases next month the following sets will be rotating out of Standard: Whispers of the Old Gods, One Night in Karazhan, and Mean Streets of Gadgetzan.
So, let’s get started!
DRUID
Whispers of the Old Gods: Fandral Staghelm, Mire Keeper, Feral Rage, Mark of Y%27Shaarj, Dark Arakkoa, Klaxxi Amber-Weaver and Wisps of the Old Gods
Druid got some decent stuff in WOG with all but two cards seeing some level of play in Standard constructed especially just after launch. The most notable ones here are Fandral Staghelm and Mire Keeper. Fandral will be a huge miss for Druid and was an essential part of pretty much every strong Druid deck with the exception of Aggro Druid.
Karazhan: Enchanted Raven, Menagerie Warden, Moonglade Portal
I’m including Menagerie here because everyone completely overrated this card when it was revealed. People were losing sleep and having nightmares of Stranglethorn Tiger into Menagerie and Beast Druid was tipped to be the next meta king. I even crafted two golden Menageries on launch day. Opps.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Kun the Forgotten King, Jade Idol, Jade Behemoth, Jade Blossom, Mark of the Lotus
NO MORE FRIGGIN JADES, WOHOO! When Jade Idol was revealed it didn’t take a genius to figure out that Jade Druid would be a dominant deck for a very long time. It effectively pushed Control Warrior out of the game which was sorely needed at the time but it also killed so many other control decks as well. Stupid ass green men!
Kun leaving standard means Quest Druid with Charged Devilsaur, Cube, Faceless OTK will be that much weaker which is a shame because if there’s a cooler deck right now in Standard I haven’t seen it. Cool it may be but even with Kun it’s like tier 8…
HUNTER
Whispers of the Old Gods: Call of the Wild, Infested Wolf, Carrion Grub, Fiery Bat, On the Hunt
Pre-nerf Call of the Wild was probably one of the strongest cards in Whispers. Nothing else was really close to the power level but a few htings saw some play here and there: Infested Wolf because there was nothing better, Carrion Grub made an appearance in some mid-range decks because it combined pretty well with Houndmaster. Fiery Bat gets an honourable mention as it is the only card dedicated to an actual player, Firebat who won the first World Championship back in 2014.
Karazhan: Cat Trick, Cloaked Huntress, Kindly Grandmoster
This was a nice little set for Rexxar. Huntress never quite reached the heights many expected but she saw some decent amount of play.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Alleycat
The Grimy Goons pushed sucking to a whole new level. This was a crap set for Hunter which personally I didn’t mind because I hate the class. Not much more I can say here really.
MAGE
Whispers of the Old Gods: Cabalist Tome, Cult Sorcerer, Faceless Summoner
Not much for Jaina and co. in this set. Cabalist’s Tome probably saw the most play out of these over the last year. Cult Sorcerer and Faceless Summoner appeared in a few Tempo lists back then but were more tech choices rather than core pieces.
Karazhan: Babbling Book, Firelands Portal, Medivh’s Valet
Jaina <3 Karazhan! All three cards seeing a lot of play in several different decks. Babbling Book was one of the highlights of Pavel’s journey to winning the Championship. Wasn’t it Babbling into Firelands? Anyway, great set for Mage and all three will be sorely missed.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Kabal Crystal Runner, Kabal Lackey, Volcanic Potion
Not a lot here for Mage but both these cards became core parts of the secret Mage lists seen quite frequently on ladder these days. Potion was a pretty good AoE at the time and featured in a few control lists
PALADIN
Whispers of the Old Gods: Ragnaros, Lightlord, Vilefin Inquisitor, Forbidden Healing, Steward of Darkshire, Rallying Blade, Stand Against Darkness
Whispers was a good set for Pally. Vilefin was one of the key cards in Murloc Paladin and will be missed for sure. Rallying Blade is now preferred to Truesilver Champion and sees a lot of play although that wasn’t always the case when it first came out. Same could be said for Stand Against Darkness – kinda laughed at when Whispers launched but now seeing play in Dude Pally quite often.
Karazhan: Ivory Knight
Not a happy Adventure for Uther. Ivory night saw some play in Control decks only because there was nothing better.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Wickerflame Burnbristle, Getaway Kodo
The second of the three classes kicked in the nuts by the fiasco that was the Grimy Goons. Kodo didn’t really see play on its own but can be a good pick from Hydrologist so it was seen fairly often.
PRIEST
Whispers of the Old Gods: Embrace the Shadow, Shifting Shade, Shadow Word: Horror, Darkshire Alchemist
Hmm, these were dark days for Anduin indeed. Priest was probably the worst class in the game during Whispers and even Karazhan, kind of where Shaman and Warrior are today. A card like Darkshire Alchemist being one of the cards from Whispers that actually saw play should be all the proof you need of just how bad things were. My how things have changed since then. Other notable losses will are SW Horror which has been played in Big Priest and in the recent versions of Control Priest that have been performing very well on ladder. Embrace saw some fringe play in a few weird OTK decks like the Corrupted Healbot OTK but also replaced Auchenai Soulpriest in some decks to be combo’d with Circle of Healing for some cheap and cheerful AoE.
Karazhan: Purify, Priest of the Feast
Talk about kicking a Priest when he’s down. Purify did not go down well with HS fans and rightly so. It was pretty much the direct opposite of what the class needed during probably his lowest point the game’s history.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Raza the Chained, Dragonfire Potion, Drakonid Operative, Greater Healing Potion, Pint-Sized Potion, Kabal Songstealer, Kabal Talonpriest, Potion of Madness
Andiun finally got some much-needed love in MSG with all but one of the class cards from the expansion seeing constructed play. Drakonid OP OP was one of the top cards from the set but there is such a diverse set of tools here that really worked well with what the class already had.
ROUGE
Whispers of the Old Gods: Xaril, Poisoned Mind, Shadowcaster, Undercity Huckster, Southsea Squidface, Shadow Strike
Whispers was hardly a great set for Rogue. Xaril did see some play in a few Miracle lists but was never a must have. Shadow Caster was always a card with huge meme potential but was never a feature of many competitive decks over the years which is a shame imo. Squidface had to wait 18 months to finally got some play in Kingsbane decks.
Karazhan: Swashburglar
I really liked Swash a lot. Swash into Patches was never as FML as N’Zoth’s First Mate and it made for some great games.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Shaku, the Collector, Gadgetzan Ferryman, Counterfeit Coin
I’ve always had a soft spot for Shaku and try and put him in most Rogue decks I play. Not much more to say here.
SHAMAN
Whispers of the Old Gods: Hallazeal the Ascended, Thing from Below, Evolve, Flamewreathed Faceless
Greetings, friend! Man how times have changed for Thrall and that little Murloc toad Morgle. The outcry over 4 mana 7/7!!! was ridiculous especially since the card was never actually that good to warrant such an outburst of rage. But man, probably one of the longest running memes in HS history. Thing from Below was an essential piece of the mid-range Shaman lists that ruled the meta for what seemed like forever. Evolve and its BFF Dopplegangster will at least be together in Wild.
Karazhan: Malestrom Portal, Spirit Claws
Thinking about pre-nerf Sprit Claws still makes me nauseous. Malestrom has been close to an auto include in every Shaman deck since its release.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: White Eyes, Jinyu Waterspeaker, Devolve, Jade Claws, Jade Lightning
Devolve must be one of the most annoying cards to play against. Claws and Lightning were both very versatile tools and used in almost every Shaman deck.
WARLOCK
Whispers of the Old Gods: Forbidden Ritual, Darkshire Councilman, Possessed Villager, Renounce Darkness
Zoo got some decent toys from Whispers. People took a while to catch on to just how strong Councilman actually was but he was in almost every version of Zoo once they did. Losing to Renounce Warlock is such a slap in the face, sadly its happened to me more than once.
Karazhan: Malchezaar’s Imp, Silverware Golem
If Zoo was viable, Imp was almost always there. Solid one drop. Silverware was another in a long line of cards that tried to make Disco-lock a thing. Thankfully it never was.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Abyssal Enforcer
Not a good expansion for Gul’dan but he didn’t need much at the time with Reno Jackson still being in Standard back then.
WARRIOR
Whispers of the Old Gods: Malkorok, Blood Warriors, Ancient Shieldbearer, Bloodsail Cultist, Blood To Ichor, Bloodhoof Brave, Ravaging Ghoul, N’Zoth’s First Mate
Not too long ago Warrior was the undisputed top dog with several decks to chose from at the top of the tier lists: C’Thun, Control, Dragon / Tempo, Pirate (although Pirate came later with MSoG). Times have changed for our Warrior friend but nearly every card from Whispers saw some play.
The nerf to Patches and Fiery War Axe thankfully curbed the power level of Pirate Warrior but it is slowly making its way back to ladder. So goodbye N’Zoth’s First Mate – you won’t be missed. ‘Fly Polly’ into ‘I’m in Charge Now’ was probably one of the most hated (and OP) turn one’s ever. Many players needed therapy during those dark months. C’Thun Warrior was probably the only tier 1 C’Thun deck and saw a lot of play both on ladder and in tournaments.
Karazhan: Nadda
Ironforge Portal saw some fringe play but Warrior didn’t need anything at the time.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Sleep with the Fishes, Alley Armorsmith
Nothing really enticing in the class cards but Patches was all that was needed for Pirate Warrior to become one of the most hated decks ever.
NEUTRAL
Whispers of the Old Gods: N’Zoth, the Corrupter, C’Thun, Y’Shaarj, Rage Unbound, Yogg-Saron, Hopes End
Before going any further I think we need to stop here and pay a special tribute to each and every one of the OG’s. All found homes in top tier decks over the last few years and were generally friggin awesome to play with. N’Zoth is probably one of my favourite cards in the entire game and Yogg, well, we all know the story. Probably one of the most broken cards ever made, I crafted a gold version in his honour.
Ok, back to the cards!
Deathwing, Dragonlord, Twin Emperor Vek’lor, Faceless Shambler, Twilight Summoner, Doomcaller, Eater of Secrets, Disciple of C’Thun, Bog Creeper, Infested Tauren, C’Thun’s Chosen, Twilight Elder, Beckoner of Evil
Whispers was a truly excellent expansion ito of flavour and the meta just after it launched was one of the best I can remember. Lots of powerful cards as well and many will be missed when the year of the Raven finally arrives.
Karazhan: Medivh, the Guardian, The Curator, Barnes, Arcane Giant, Book Wyrm, Violet Illusionist, Netherspite Historian
First and foremost, I don’t think anyone will cry seeing the back of Barnes. One of the most hated cards and for good reason as well. I’ll miss the little Netherspite Historian though – I crafted two golden versions because dragons are awesome and golden ragons even more so.
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: Kazakus, Kabal Courier, Aya Blackpaw, Jade Spirit
Both Aya and Kazakus were must haves for their respective factions. Kazakus gave Renolock a huge boost that it didn’t even need.
Finja, the Flying Star, Auctionmaster Beardo, Patches the Pirate, Burgly Bully, Dirty Rat, Weasel Tunneler, Second-Rate Bruiser, Doppelgangster, Small-Time Buccaneer, Naga Corsair, Mistress of Mixtures
MSG Was not a popular set and for good reason imo. Patches was way too strong and it took Blizzard way too long to nerf it. Jades, especially Jade Druid were ugh and dull to play and play against.
Losing Bully and Beardo sucks for me because I am a huge fan of Exodia Paladin so I hope they give the class something that makes the OTK possible in the next set.

Thank you for this deck. 29-14 on my road to legend. 67% winrate, took me ten hours. Maybe I will add Magtheridon, but I do not have him yet.

Great deck, went 15 - 6 with it from rank 9 to 5. Thanks man.

Cool deck.

Thanks a lot for the deck. First time I made it to legend I am so happy. Started from rank two. 9-1, only lost against a druid. Played a lot with even pally before, but could not make it to legend, played over 100 matches.
