The Five Most Overhyped Boomsday Project Cards
Predicting a card's usefulness or popularity isn't always easy. Sometimes, cards that seem like they will be a surefire hit fizzle out in the blink of an eye. Other times, cards that got little to no buzz upon reveal steal the show weeks or even months later. Which brings us to this list — the most overhyped cards from Boomsday Project.
Before we get started, I just wanted to make some important notes:
- Overhyped DOES NOT mean bad.
- Overhyped DOES mean that pre-launch and early days hype surrounding these cards was a lot greater than their current reality (i.e. how popular they are now, what their current win rate looks like).
- What we were looking for here was cards that have had a downward trend in popularity and/or win rate (often both) from launch to now.
- Also cards that had a lot of pre-launch chatter but haven’t actually been seeing a lot of play.
- Any win rates mentioned are for the specific card, not the decks we've included.
We've also included some decks that are running these cards, if you want to check them out and decide for yourself if they live up to the hype. Okay, with that out the way let’s dive right in!
Juicy Psychmelon
This card is doing well in wild but in standard, not so much. There was a lot of pre-launch hype about this card but in the end the high mana cost for the very specific card draw just didn’t pan out for most players. It's seen a steady drop in popularity and a pretty steep drop in win rate, significant enough for it to be included on this list. As I mentioned, wild is a completely different story for this card. It’s doing really well there, but this article is only concerned with standard mode so don’t @ me.

Kangor's Endless Army
This card was talked about A LOT before launch. It even made many “Most Anticipated” and “Top Cards” lists as well. But did it live up to all that hype? Not really. In the end, the randomness of the mechs revived made this card less playable than initially anticipated.
Not only has the popularity of this card been in a steady downward trend since launch, but its win rate has as well. The win rate got off to a solid start right around launch, but it has been hovering in and out of the red (below 50%) ever since.

Lab Recruiter
Off the bat, this Rogue card looked like it was going to be mega-popular. Factoring in its low mana cost and synergy with sister card Pogo-Hopper (and basically a helluva lot of other Rogue cards that rely on playing multiple copies of the same card), it looked like Lab Recruiter was going to be a winner.
You’d think this would mean a big resurgence in the dreaded quest rogue, right? Well, it is played a lot in quest rogue decks now, that much is true. But when you look at it overall not only is it just not being played that much, it’s also doing pretty poorly when it comes to win rate, having been below 50% its entire lifespan.

Wargear
This card didn’t necessarily get a lot of pre-launch hype. Let’s be real, it’s not flashy enough for that. But this steady 5 mana 5/5 saw a huge surge in popularity once the expansion launched.
The magnetic mechanic on this card seemingly gave it a big advantage. You could play it on a mech already on the board and have the same effect as getting +5/+5, Magnetic really does open up a lot of new ways to play around with cards and their synergy and I for one am thoroughly enjoying it.
Despite all that however, this card has seen a steady decline in popularity and win rate since launch. As the meta refines and people find more specified decks to play with, some cards just get left behind despite how good they seem at first blush. Wargear is one of those cards.

Floop's Glorious Gloop
Unlike Flobbidinous Floop himself, which has remained popular, his gloop just couldn’t make the cut. This is another card that had a lot of pre-launch chatter surrounding it. It seemed like people were excited about it when it was first revealed, but today it's simply not seeing much action.
The thing about this card though, is that it actually has quite a good win rate. Sure, it does require some set up to maximize the benefit, but I'm surprised that it isn't being included in more decks. What do you guys think?

With that we’ve wrapped up our list of the most overhyped cards in the Boomsday Project expansion! If you've got the cards already, I encourage you to try out some of these decks featured in the article. Maybe we can turn some of these cards around? With Hearthstone anything is possible. The least popular cards now could be the most popular cards in a few weeks. Speaking of which...make sure to tune in next time for the most underhyped cards.
Which cards were you most anticipating only to find they fizzled out when you actually got your hands on them? Were you surprised that Mecha'thun wasn’t on this list? Are you mortally offended that we’ve included one of your fave cards here? Let us know in the comments below!
lol XD no spells over 6 mana
Yeah, I thought that Juicy Psychmelon was going to be a bananas-good tutor, but it just didn't happen. I'm kind of glad for it, because having OTK Maly take over wouldn't have been a great deal of fun for the meta. It's still around, it's just not scary.
I'm amazed that Luna's Pocket Galaxy didn't get a mention. So many people were talking about busted combos that could be created, but I tried it like others and found it meme tier at best. And The Boomship got similar hype for similar reasons, yet hasn't borne out. A shame, too, since I thought Recruit Warrior might have a better time to shine again. Ah well.
One of the best rated cards. 0 play haha i have never seen pocket galaxy that was played xd only once as a burned card..
I use Luna's Pocket Galaxy in an Odd Elemental Mage deck. it doesn't always come through for me, but when it does I can do hilarious things like:
1) Drop both 1-mana Blazecallers for 10 face damage they weren't expecting since the odd deck doesn't run Pyroblast. This is a favorite and has won more than a handful of games
2) Throw out a wall of cheap elementals and then a 35-health Ozruk. More rare but every time I've done it its pulled a "wow" from the opponent which amuses.
3) Play DK and Baron Geddon on the same turn. Have gotten a couple of inta-concedes off this.
That is some sweet, rude combo tech that I was trying to do but found so rarely worked. I might give it another try, mind you!
This article will do nothing but gather hate from the wild players, you should have excluded Juicy Psychmelonfrom this list
Except for the fact that it's called out that we're not talking about wild in this article.
Except Juicy Psychmelon was never hyped for standard, so why is it there?
Mellon is OP.
Does not matter it's only in wild. The card was not overhyped I think.
Haha, it seems somebody doesn't accept any agruments and continue living in his own world :)
If you played wild enough you will accept the fact, that this just made Druid even more powerful than it was before!
Even bold note about the standard format didn't stop you talking about the wild in the loops. Bye
This card is not overhyped, it is really good, simples don't fit in the only 2 decks shaman have now (even and shudder), every time I use the card feels a powerhouse to me, it is more than underated side than overhyped.
I tried to make Floop's Glorious Gloop work in Malygos Druid (Malygos+Swipe), but it only worked once or twice. Even then, there are better alternatives to that card.
I had a similar experience. But design-wise, it just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. You'd get the most benefit from a token deck.. where you don't want to trade away your board. So your other options are.. run this spell to MAYBE come out 1 or 2 mana ahead and enable.. what exactly? .. that your ramp didn't already get you to.
Great idea on paper with pretty awful implementation.
Electra Stormsurge???
In Standard druid don't have cards to make use of the full potential of the card like Wild, the problem is the lack of support don't the power of the card like Wild proves it.
It is not overhyped in any sense because Wild is played by a lot of people and they see the insane potential there.
For Standard, wait broken BS like UI rotates and if druid get a good 9 and 10 minion you will see the card be played, of course, if druid don't get even more broken cards in the future, what become a routine now.
I'm sorry but this is another terribly article. Noone ever hyped any of these cards besides juicy melon, and even that was only talked about because it would be insane in wild. Which it is, so it dosen't even fit in to what the article is about. More quality control on what you present here please.
*looks at garbo post* *looks at poster's history* Oh. One-liners, quips about how Blizzard sucks or truisms. What a stunner that your opinion carries so little weight.
And if you took the time to read, he mentioned that it's good in Wild. And that people like you would still complain. Seems like the article's quality is a little more on than you, my friend.
I never saw anyone hyping psycmelon for standard, it was always for the wild combo potential.
