People that complain that it doesn't fit into Zoolock "because Warlock can draw cards" are missing the point, I think.
This card fits much better into a Midrange Warlock, which has to stay alive a little bit more, playing stronger minions on average.
t1 this into t2 Succubus is now reasonable.
This plus Doomguard means you actually redraw the 2 cards for just 1 mana immediately rather than for 4 mana, 4 life and over 2 turns. This means Doomguard isn't just a finisher anymore but a valid midrange minion. A rather good one at that.
This plus Soulfire makes for a 2 mana 1/3 minion with Battlecry: deal 4 damage and cycle a random card. Not too shabby.
Darkshire Librarian also likes this, as does Dark Bargain.
This may or may not be enough to make midrange Demon Warlock viable but this obviously isn't meant for Zoo so don't judge it based on whether it fits in Zoo.
All said, I really wanted more control focused cards for warlock, or else we'll just be stuck with this one mana heavy zoolock. Heck I still miss good old midrangey demonzoo, and reno in standard is a joke. It's is a streamer deck.
Discard just as whole is pretty bad mechanic, because you don't want to possibly lose any key cards, except in situations, when you don't have any cards in the hand. This really does not help.
I love this one. Discard warlock will never be a thing unless they keep printing cards like this, and this one is A+ for the archetype. Combine this with Soulfire and Doomguard, which are already good, and Tiny Knight of Evil and Darkshire Librarian, which would be good if discard decks were a thing, and I can see this happen someday. I feel like Dark Bargain also has great potential. Succubus will never be great but may be included. Only Fist of Jaraxxus will always br utter crap.
Too bad this doesn't interact with Deathwing. That would be insane.
If they made an amazeballs warlock 1 drop, everyone would be tearing their eyeballs out about how zoo didn't need any help and blizzard doesn't know how to make games, etc.
But they made this. Which I think will be fun to mess around with! Hell I saw Kolento running a Renounce deck with Darkshire Librarians on stream once. Was it an optimized deck? Was it fun watching him deck build to play to those cards synergies?
It helps that the cards that would be played on curve are 2 mana. So, you don't have to worry about getting "value." However, the value you're getting isn't very good and discarding a random card throws deck consistency out the window. I really doubt this will work until "if you discard a card do X" is printed 2 or 3 more times.
This card is straight busted if discard warlock becomes a thing...and even if it doesnt, I think this card has a good enough body for aggro zoo (which tends to run soul fire and doomguard) that it might end up being a tech choice. Honestly, people seem to be sleeping on this guy, but playing this into the darkshire librarian is insane!
Discard mechanic is quite useless for now. You can't play any combo in such decks, cause it can be discarded any time. It could be more interesting if imp has discover mechanic instead of draw.
Maybe we'll see some new cards with discard synergy. But for now this Imp is just garbage.
I probably wouldn't be playing this, Discard decks play with a lot of RNG and unlike Shaman's RNG which is mostly board clears or summoning a random totem which adds to the board, you could effectively discard away your best card instead of the one you want to discard.
Probably the best discard synergy card to date, but I still don't see the deck being good. I think this, Tiny Knight of Evil and Fist of Jaraxxus are good, but there needs to be more minions like Doomguard strong enough to warrant discarding.
I don't know if this comparison makes sense, but isn't Imp of Malchezaar kind of like Goblin Auchtioneer or Starving Buzzard? It's a conditional card draw trigger, but at just 1 Mana, it is REALLY easy to combo with!
I could imagine that because of its really low mana cost, you could easily combo this to get a lot of value out of it. One mana for a 1/3 and draw 1 or 2 cards, with the potential to draw more unless it's removed? That sounds really good in the right shell. Let's hope that Warlock gets more discard synergy cards to make this work!
They could make a card that would be like "When you discard a card while this is in your hand discard this card instead." And this would synergise well with it.

I like more discard synergy maybe this will be enough to make discard decks playable
they need to print some sort of "whenever you discard a card, add a copy of it to your hand" or these discard decks will never be relevant
that said, this minion will see play, not because of the effect, but because its a cheap demon
