Ashes of Outland Meta Decks - Early May Edition

Ashes of Outland Meta Decks - Early May Edition

Twelve days into the season, we are doing another check up of the May ranked ladder Meta. Not much has changed except the continued march of Warrior and Zoolock to the top. Check out the decks we found!

Demon Hunter

The undisputed most popular, most played (and most hated) deck. There's little else to add to this, as further nerfs seem unlikely at this point and the meta is going to develop from here with DH as the big fish in the pond, where every other deck and class revolves around it.

Warrior

Risky Skipper/Enrage/Eggro/Tempo Warrior, whatever you want to name it, has been slowly but surely growing in popularity and starting to overtake Demon Hunter as the most powerful deck. Make no mistake, DH is far more popular, but Warrior actually has a leg up on Demon Hunter in their match ups. Warrior's main problem is not any of the top Meta decks, but Priest, which if Warrior continues to climb will surely see an equal climb in shares.

Rogue

Rogue players have been in two minds about which version to play since before the start of the Ashes of Outland expansion 1 month ago, Highlander Rogue or "normal" Galakrond Rogue. All in all it seems that the latter is slowly winning that battle, although both decks are very much viable.

Warlock

Zoolock, timeless and forever. The current version only really started to become popular late in April and is still very much being refined. Earlier versions had Kanrethad Ebonlocke in it and current hot and new versions are running charge minions like Wolfrider, but the win rates are still up in the air with the different versions. This version Swidz popularized at the Grandmasters is a solid version to experiement with if Zoolock is your thing.

Hunter

Where Rogue is in 2 rather similar minds about what deck to play, Hunter's choices are wildly different. We listed the more common Highlander and Face Hunter decks, but even Dragon Hunter is still a viable option.

Priest

To some people Priests exist just to make their life miserable. This mostly means Warrior players however as Priest doesn't do that great against the other top Meta classes (Rogue and DH). Which is a shame, because the Sethekk Veilweaver and Galakrond shenanigans are really very amusing.

Paladin

The problem with this deck is that to some players this is a murloc deck first, that just so happens to be a Paladin deck, and that thus it doesn't really count as a Paladin deck. It's still quite good though, even if it doesn't count.

Mage

Highlander Mage has seen tinkering with cards and experiments. We featured 2 different versions last week and almost every Grandmaster plays some version on Ladder at times. This is just one version of many which all feature similar game plan, mulligan guides and tactics.

Druid

Spell druid was like a shooting star (Balance Druid pun very much intended), it shone bright with Kael'thas Sunstrider and then dimmed when he got nerfed. The turns at which you could get an overwhelming board got pushed back and with it so did the chance of Druid surviving long enough to get there against the top classes in the Meta. Right now it's a shadow of itself. It can sneak wins against any class if it high rolls, but all too often the archetype is too little, too late.
