I just had an idea about this card and the other "No minion in your deck" mechanic cards. Why not using Hemet, Jungle Hunter to get rid of your 3 cost (or less) minions in order to use these cards ? I'd be glad if you'd share your thoughts about it with me !
Hunter already got two sick minions generating spells (the 5 mana spellstone and Flunking Strike. Add to this a whole bunch of Secrets (and the new one being essentially Taunt), Deadly Shot, Eaglehorn Bow, Deadly Shot, Tracking,To My Side (which is pretty solid when activated) and Animal Companion and you have completed 2/3 of a deck with really solid early game and good curve.
The big problem for an all Spell hunter deck is that it would need a board clear and healing, because that's what every slow, control decks needs.
Maybe, and that's a big maybe, if Hunter gets a decent board clear and a healing card, this legendary weapon could see some play. Or even just one of the above, which i really hope, because this weapon is really interesting and could help create a very intriguing archetype.
I don't even think we are talking about a control deck with an all spell hunter. It's just a smarter version of midrange/ burn, your spells give you a lot of good, midsized minions to attack with, you use your secrets wisely to stall and delay. Keep using your hero power and eaglehorn bow to wear the opponent down, and have the DK or this weapon as a backup plan if that doesn't work. Eaglehorn Bow will be the key to making this deck playable, by the way.
Hear me out, I think this is a good card in the right deck.
Standard meta hunter has been the same for a long time now. Play minions, control the board, trade, hit the face. It has sat outside of tier 1 for a while, but let's face it, it's going to be like that. Blizzard doesn't want to make that deck more powerful. They want to introduce new ways to play hunter, which I think is good for the game in itself, while keeping the normal build for face/midrange hunter strong with a card like Cave Hydra they just revealed. Midrange/face hunter honestly doesn't need any more tools to become more powerful, it is already a strong deck that wins considerably enough.
Now, work some magic and play Rhok'delar in some kind of spell/face hunter deck? On turn 7 you have a full hand of burn/removal/more minions/more face damage. Hunter finally has the card draw it needs to get a second wind in the game, and it doesn't even matter if your opponent Harrison Joneses it.
With the recruit mechanic to pull minions out of your deck, spells like Flanking Strike they just revealed, the spellstone, secrets, turn 3-6-9 animal companions with CotW+To My Side+Animal Companion....I think this deck has potential. Obviously not good for F2P players because you have to crack open the wallet for the new epics+this card in that deck. Obviously not tier 1, but otherwise fun and potentially strong hunter that could give control decks a run for their money with the power to get carried into the lategame with other cards like Deathstalker Rexxar. Imagine, a world where you can actually play all those zombeasts that normally get stuck in your hand when you draw, say, a Highmane and want to play that instead. You have a ton of spells that can support your zombeast board presence and have room to reliably use the hero power to craft them every turn.
I'm also thinking of wild where you can play this card and get Lock and Load. Play Yogg as well and wait until you draw him to meme it up.
Professor Putricide isn't even welcome in the one deck he was created for...pretty tragic.
It might see play in a recruit Hunter deck. I have more faith in that deck then this spell crap. Some of the neutral cards revealed might make recruit Hunter possible, with early strong non-beast neutral and Hunter minions and Kath to bring out big bag boys with Play Dead for the finish.
It's probably not a strong deck now, but I think there's a possibility it can be very good next year after a couple expansions, giving time for Team 5 to further develop the concept.
People defending this card probably defended Gnomeferatu too.
I'm defending it because I think it'll be an interesting archetype within a few expansions time - not enough now, obviously, but it has potential to be very good down the line.
I was very vocal about my hatred of Gnomeferatu, however. People who defended Gnomeferatu were people who didn't understand variance, this is obviously entirely different, daft comparison.
It's like they discussed the rest of the expansion, and then they had a special committee to fine tune the least logical, lowest synergy, generally worst card they could in the hunter class.
hmmm so many people jsut thrashing it.. maybe it will be decent.. it looked decent in stream..
it's not freeze shaman.. if not NOW maybe next year.. it's good they are trying to make different archtypes other than stuff we saw before...
hunter is bad ATM but it's a fun deck to try nonetheless
I actually hope this deck will work.. with To My Side! alone it wasn't really it but with this weapon too and more spells that got revealed seems more reasonable and interesting game plan..

Gnomeferatu is a great card for a not that great deck because the lack of support.
One more card, like 3/4 for 3 manas doing the same thing and your opponent hit fatigue way before than you and sometimes you just win like hit Antonidas in Exodia for example.

Here is my no minion deck
looks fun to play actually
You're not forced to use no minions ;)
Topdeck Rhok'delar... 10x To My Side!

You're totally right TonyDanza, people spit on this card before even being able to test it haha ! :(
The point is you have a huge downside for an inconsistent reward.
Just look at Quest Shaman. It is MUCH stronger than Spell Hunter will ever be, yet, how much is it played?
There you go...
WEASEL COUNTER!

This is the kind of card you would get with the first ten card packs guaranteed legendary. (Insert battle cry gain 400 dust joke here)
