For me the meta isn’t boring, but it’s still frustrating to face super value decks, who are impossible to beat in the lategame ( due their DK heropower, Hadronox, or because of endless card generation) , or OTK decks you somehow have to rush down before they get their pices.
I like the meta right now. It’s better than it has been since before the Razakus priest nerf. I think KotFT was my favorite meta followed by WW. I also thought Razakus was a bit undeserving of the nerf. Sure it was a very strong deck, but it had a really high skill cap and could be modified, especially when compared to top tier decks now. Token Druid, Taunt warrior and Druid, cubelock and any viable Paladin now aren’t all that challenging to play.
However, there have been some really good archetypes come out of WW. Priest just needs a few more board clears and a draw spell to become a meta defining class. Rogue just needs a few more echo spells to have a fun, high skill deck become competitive. Rush is a good start to abolishing charge, a mechanic that should never have existed outside of legendary cards. Shaman has several versions right now that are on the precipice of being top tier, and I’m not including shudderwock as that card is just lazy and bad.
All in all, WW is a step in the right direction. After the next expansion, I think year of the raven will be a new golden age for hearthstone.
I thought I wanted a balanced meta. I thought wrong, assuming this is what they consider a balanced meta. Statistically I suppose it makes sense to have RPS evenly distributed, but that means you as a player can't really make a deck/tech choice based on the local meta - you just load up a deck and hope you queue into the right stuff. I've stopped playing my favorite deck in exchange for something that overall should do better. Not to mention, the way decks win right now is boring AF. You either go aggro, or you delay delay delay delay gain 24 armor in one turn delay Psychic Scream delay delay delay win the game/OTK combo.
Thats actualy a fair explanation of the current meta. What ya know? A lowly f2p like me agrees with the guy on the ivory tower
I think overall the meta is as vivid as it's been in awhile. The shortcoming as stated in this thread is the amount of combo and OTK meta decks.
So while theirs choice, there's also alot of, oh wow my opponent curved, oh look they have their combo type of eyerolling matches. Or in short matches that feel decided not by choices or board state but rather by who draws more consistent. This in essence makes the players feel like matches are not interactive or a lot less fun.
You can see this even with streamers. They'll say things like: We'll if they have UI at 10mana in token it's over, if they have Shudder it's over, if they have t7 Wareior Quest completion it's over, if they have T10 Guldan it's over. No talk of playing around or strategizing outcomes, just it's over. Never lucky.
This is why while we have a healthy and diverse meta, there's alot of ladder matches that just feel bad or unrewarding. Its also why I gravitate to decks like Maricle Rogue right now as they require a lot more thought than most meta decks to play properly.

Shit. Give this guy a prize. Thread over.
Pretty much a mirror of what my sentiments are. I think that the ladder is incredibly diverse and that the meta is probably healthier than it's been in awhile. But for that reason, the ladder is wildly unpredictable and is making it very hard to tech. At the tail end of May and beginning of June, I was finding a few decks pretty solid to try and go against the meta with. Now it's all over the place. I played probably 15-20 games yesterday and managed to net 2 whole stars. I even watched Kibler stream off and on for over 9 hours. Result: Ranked down once before coming back up to, I believe, about -1 or 2 stars on the WHOLE DAY of play. Now granted, he was playing what he calls 'sweet decks' (i.e. Galvadon, EleGiggle, etc.) vs. meta decks for climbing. But that shows you how chaotic it is.

Eh, I don't mind it. I don't really feel such intense changes since almost all Wild expansions were stronger than WW anyway. Still, I don't think I am in the minority when I say the next expansion can't arrive too soon.

Start of Year: Provoke the failure of 3 expansions, force nerfs on otherwise balanced cards, bring deckbuilding to an all-time low and get rotated one year earlier for being such a threat to the game's health. - Genn and Baku's historical entry on the White Book of Shit Design, shortly before retiring unpunished
It's a terrible meta. Diversity, sure, but way too many decks that autowin with the right cards in their opening hand. I'm looking forwars to the next xpansion.
I'll agree with a lot of what has been said here. Many year of the mammoth legendaries are power spike cards (quests, dks, weapons) that lead to overwhelming board states.
It used to be that any deck with a synergy had potential to win with a bit of luck, but now anything slower than tempo decks need to be able to build a "broken" board state to compete.
Traditional midrange decks have a very narrow window to win before it becomes impossible. Traditional control decks can no longer simply outvalue the opponent and play big minions without a power spike combo.
We may continue to see these decks until the next year rotation, and it may be a challenge for the designers to keep the power creep minimized (like they did fairly well in witchwood) for the remaining two sets this year. A heavy aggro meta will reduce these power spike decks, but that's not much fun either.
Meta is thousand times better than it ever was. The only problem, in my opinion, are rock, paper, scissors scenarios. And there are too many of them if you ask me. Other than that I really do enjoy it. Even playing netdecks became fun as there are a lot to choose from.
I see many people complaining about the difficulty of existing decks. The only thing I have to say is - DONT FORGET THIS IS HEARTHSTONE. It was supposed to be easy but addictive game for everyone. I don't think we will ever see decks where even pros make meaningful mistakes more than once per matchup. It's just not the game you're looking for if you want to show your magic the gathering skill.
I just don't like playing against 7 taunt boards that can be refilled with other 7 taunt minions. This isn't even restricted to only one class and one archetype. But overall everything is fine, just a bit boring. Balance is not always fun unfortunately.
How can we like a meta that if you not play as Sh*t Paladin, Cubesh*tlock or Hadrosh*t Druid you don't pass rank 20? Man, this game needs to recycle itself.
I voted that it's boring, but I have to agree with others that this is a fairly balanced meta where there is an answer for every deck. My only gripe is the abundance of decks that are absolutely frustrsting to play against like Taunt Druid with its infinite taunts from revived Hadronoxes, and Shudderwock Shaman whose moves are so predictable yet surprisingly effective in this slowed down meta. Odd Paladin seems like such a brainless deck too, you just keep shitting out dudes and going face whenever you can. All I'm saying is that the playstyles are just boring and predictable, yet render you helpless most of the time.
It's pretty much the best meta since the release of KoFT, only Un'Goro meta was as healthy as this recently. I like that more or less all classes have viable decks and any aggro there is is underwhelming.
Aggro might be important to keep Combo decks from being overpowered but right now most of my games are Control vs Control which is great.
The meta might be balanced, but is boring and not fun to play in.
Incidentally, I'd rather the game developers would stop pushing Solitaire-decks with cards such as Shudderwock. Cards which promote interaction and allow for comebacks would be highly preferable in my opinion.
The game would be in a very good state if they nerfed the upgraded paladin hero power and obliterated aggro mage, as it stands right now it's merely okay because of those two bullshit decks.

Cubelock is still insanely powerful so no I don’t like it. Deck has been around far too long.

The less viable Aggro becomes, the happier I am. Considering that, I guess I'm pretty happy with the meta right now.
