I miss the days when you could play against the deck that was your bad match-up but with some smart moves give yourself a chance. You could be a huntard against a Reno deck, but once you realize your opponents interesting card choices meant he was singleton you could stave off damage, trying to bait out the Reno or put him in a position to burst him down. Or when control decks didn't have to be Warrior and they had to be smart about when they used their AoE cards.

Exactly. I will point out that I miss a lot Lich king and KOFT DKS. They really should do a exp with new Hero Class Cards again.

Yes because Deathstalker Rexxar is a well balanced card. Put it in any hunter deck or 29 other cards for that matter and win from RNG. It's fun but terrible balance and destructive to good play and a reason the game is stale... Dr Boom is another prime example...

And yet, DK Rexxar was unanimously considered to be borderline trash when it came out. It wasn't until it got a host of supporting cards to give it half a chance to be good that it finally had its day.

Funny how quickly people forget that....
It was just like Hadranox and Prince Keleseth. As soon as they finally became good (thanks to other cards), all the complainers crawled out the woodwork.

Not sure how I'm complaining. Pretty negative of you. I crafted golden Rexxar day 1, love the card.

My point is when cards are so staple that they are in every meta deck of a class regardless of archetype and get seen every match it adds to effect or perception of the meta being stale. Apparently you took it personally as me ripping on one of your personal favorite cards.

posted a message on Zephrys not offered cards

Yes there are definitely some blinds spots in his ability. For example he does not see reduced mana, thusly will never offer evicsorate when you have 1 mana even when it's lethal...

However, he has on many occasions offered me tempo options that lead to wins the majority of time especially players early game. I find played late game, looking at druid, he's a last ditch effort that maybe clears board and just gives tempo back.

Considering how many players complain he's op and a nerd target his imperfections kinda make it seem otherwise. Personally it's pretty frustrating when he doesn't offer you anything that you want/need but meh, that RNG.

posted a message on Shaman Quest is the next nerf

This isn't the last expansion before rotation, so while it's in rotation it does in fact limit design space. You are right though about eventually it's gone.

However, in the meantime it'll be hard to print good neutral BCs for all classes without considering the impact to shaman first.

When you have to look at strictly at one class for a keyword when printing neutral cards, well, we've restricted design space. Intention or not.

posted a message on Shaman Quest is the next nerf

Said it before and the issue isn't power of the Quest, it's the limited design space for the time it's in rotation.

The other awkward part of the Quest is it offers insane value for agro/temp style decks. Which, again is more a design limiting factor. When an agro deck can out value a control deck for example? This is why a combo deck like Priest feels more threatening in the meta because it doesn't allow the Quest shaman to go late game and simply out value or find BC combos.

Anyways balance is okay, imo, the outcomes can just be tilting sometimes when you get that "oh here we go again feeling" that the new Quest shaman deck seems to create, especially off hirolls.

posted a message on Why is it more tilting to lose to a non-meta deck?

It's easier to lose to a good off meta deck because they have an advantage of knowing what you're playing while you the opponent are guessing and potentially missplaying thinking it's a meta deck opponent.

posted a message on Is Chief Inspector worth it?

    In wild.

Chief is a great tech has a decent Stateline and is good in a meta with secrets. The problem you'll find with this card is it's slow and ackward to play often given its cost.

Chief isn't a card, imo, you slam to remove secrets, it's a card you play when you have lethal and secrets are in your way. Or you already have tempo and don't want to lose it to push damage. It's not a card you play on an empty board just because the enemy has secrets, especially with Zuljin being a thing. If you tech it and see hunter save it for after ZJ unless of course you have the aforementioned lethal.

posted a message on Quest Shaman’s reach is mental

Idk if it's a problem... However I don't think it's healthy for the game to give an agro/tempo deck this much value. It doesn't leave much room for design space of the next year+ before the Quest rotates out.

And at OP, I've been on the losing end of those kind of hirolls more than I care to admit. Swamp thing with lava burst and lightning bolt spells and a kobold lackey for 20 damage from hand off RNG. Feels great

Expend my horizons!? Mage is my only non Golden Hero,...

Such bad timing on my part. That said Freeze Giant mage from pre Uldum is giving me consistent climb right now and wrecks both warrior variants. Ladder r4+.

Also, the tempo 2x Pyro combo mage does well too.

posted a message on How good is Reno mage?

I disagree, the deck is insanely good with multiple win conditions. I think some players struggle with it because of the lines in the deck are harder to predict and make consistent decisions.

For example against BC shaman the best thing to do it keep the board clear and always trade instead of chipping, since they will heal. Just hold steady and OTK them late game with some combination of Alex, FB Archmage and 5mana Pyro.

Sure it' gets beat to RNG, but that's over half this game. The deck is fun but hard to pilot to its highest potential. That said I have 2 players on my friends list that achieved legendary with it on very good WR and have completed multiple 12w brawls (including myself) with the deck.

I want to suggest a new name for the deck: A Single Wish

    Cheers

posted a message on Pairing of opponents in ranked play

    @OP

Match making is essentially a 3 sides coin flip. Someone has to get the high roll in match making and someone has to get the low roll.

That is the bottom line. Queueing is as RNG based as mulligan, as drawing, as discovery and so on. Its a card game. Players in rank will play the most consistent decks for this very reason, to minimize the impact of random and increase win percentages.

We all have experienced huge win streaks and like wise huge losing streaks. Outlier RNG and matchmaking is a major reason for that. However, good players will play well and mitigate losing streaks as much as possible, it really can feel debilitating when it happens.

Look at the bright side though, your unlucky match making is really making a good day for someone else! Way to be a good Samaritan in a relatively toxic community! XD
