Hearthstone Ranked is Changing Forever! Play These Decks for End of Season Laddering
We're just a couple days away from the new ladder season and with it, a brand new way to play on the Hearthstone ladder. Before we get to the decks that are going to take you far though, let's recap what's happening with the ladder changes.
- Every rank of the ladder before Legend will have 5 star levels.
- When the season ends, you drop down 4 ranks and keep the same star level.
- No changes have been made to the win streak mechanic.
- Rank floors (20, 15, 10, 5) are all still in place.
There's also changes to the rewards structure.
- Card backs will now be earned after 5 wins for a month instead of by hitting rank 20.
- Ranked rewards go by your highest ranked earned during the season.
If you missed the original announcement of the ranked play changes, you can find Ben Brode's video on that right here. Now, let's look at some great decks that you should take with you to the ladder for the end of the season.
Silver Hand or Murloc Paladin
There are two different Paladin flavours that are currently at the top of the ladder as far as win rates are concerned. The only question is, do you believe in the dudes or are you at one with the mrglgl?

Secret Mage
An old favourite brought back from the sorta-kinda-not-really-dead. It has some difficulty with Paladins and Spiteful decks, but if you aren't seeing much of that and you're lucky enough to have Aluneth, this is a fantastic pick and a personal favourite.
A small sample of players have found it to be solid against Paladins. Your mileage may vary.

Secret Hunter
It's a trap! Recently brought to us from a Blizzard blog post, this deck is performing exceptionally well provided you don't run into either of the Paladin decks we've featured. It also requires some niche cards which don't see much use elsewhere so we can't recommend crafting them if you're saving dust for the upcoming expansion.

Spiteful Priest
Another deck that isn't doing great if all you see is Paladin, but it's doing great otherwise. It should go without saying you want to mulligan away your high-cost spells to get your Spiteful Summoner value.

Cubelock
New no more! We've been playing around with Cubelock since Kobolds and Catacombs hit and it's still popular. This deck is the main reason why we're seeing a lot of Silence play through Spellbreaker and even the occasional Ironbeak Owl when budgets are tight.

Wait, I feel like I misunderstood somthing. So it's going to be harder to rank up(since its now 5 stars)?
If you are already at low rank, say 15 or below it's going to be (a lot) harder to rank up to where you want,
BUT, if you are already at a good rank like 5 Legend than it's going to be (a lot) easier to rank up to where you were before or higher.
You might describe this as "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer".
I don't exactly get the connection between these changes and those decks?!
I really don't think there is any actual connection. Seems like they are just reminding/refreshing people's memories and wanted to beef the post up a bit with some current meta decks.
Thank you for featuring my deck! I am even more proud to read that this is your favorite!
So looking at these comments it seems confirmed that you go down 4 ranks from your HIGHEST rank of the season, but what you are, say, rank 1 with 5 stars, but then go down to rank 5 with 0 stars, would you be at rank 5 with 5 stars at the end of the season?
You would go down to rank 5 with 5 stars
If you're falling four whole ranks at a time, it's time to make a different meta call and switch to a more consistent deck.
Rank floors at each rank is the worst. The more you play the game the closer you get to never winning a game again. Lets say you normally end the season rank 10. You've played enough games that you eventually high roll your way to rank 9 but now your winning 40% of games instead of 50%. At this point you don't rank down to 10 and start winning 50% of games again as usual. Instead you eventually get to rank 8 and your winning 30% of games. Players who play more often than others become stuck against opponents at higher levels and can't rank down. A better match making system allows players to rank down.
Fluxflashor still too lazy to fix the article to lower confusion about upcoming ranked changes, because you're pretty much highlighting something that's incorrect now.
What's incorrect? If you're going to call it out, at least explain what you're talking about.
Never Forget
Also known as "The year of Thrall".
where is 4-mana 7/7?
I just realized, that Small-Time Buccaneer looks like Lemmy from motorhead, is it just an coincidence?
what is the conclusion ?
1) four ranks less than the best rank
2) four ranks less than the final rank of the month
3) who knows?
tks
Only sees dudadin and murlocadin omg wheres aggrodin the deck that gave it all to you the backbone of paladin. how could you do this to paladin man shame on you.
"There's also changes to the rewards structure."
Finally, more than a golden common for getting legend? Nope, FeelsBadMan.
Phew I just hit legend today, made it in time :D
