Hearthstone Ranked is Changing Forever! Play These Decks for End of Season Laddering
We're just a couple days away from the new ladder season and with it, a brand new way to play on the Hearthstone ladder. Before we get to the decks that are going to take you far though, let's recap what's happening with the ladder changes.
- Every rank of the ladder before Legend will have 5 star levels.
- When the season ends, you drop down 4 ranks and keep the same star level.
- No changes have been made to the win streak mechanic.
- Rank floors (20, 15, 10, 5) are all still in place.
There's also changes to the rewards structure.
- Card backs will now be earned after 5 wins for a month instead of by hitting rank 20.
- Ranked rewards go by your highest ranked earned during the season.
If you missed the original announcement of the ranked play changes, you can find Ben Brode's video on that right here. Now, let's look at some great decks that you should take with you to the ladder for the end of the season.
Silver Hand or Murloc Paladin
There are two different Paladin flavours that are currently at the top of the ladder as far as win rates are concerned. The only question is, do you believe in the dudes or are you at one with the mrglgl?

Secret Mage
An old favourite brought back from the sorta-kinda-not-really-dead. It has some difficulty with Paladins and Spiteful decks, but if you aren't seeing much of that and you're lucky enough to have Aluneth, this is a fantastic pick and a personal favourite.
A small sample of players have found it to be solid against Paladins. Your mileage may vary.

Secret Hunter
It's a trap! Recently brought to us from a Blizzard blog post, this deck is performing exceptionally well provided you don't run into either of the Paladin decks we've featured. It also requires some niche cards which don't see much use elsewhere so we can't recommend crafting them if you're saving dust for the upcoming expansion.

Spiteful Priest
Another deck that isn't doing great if all you see is Paladin, but it's doing great otherwise. It should go without saying you want to mulligan away your high-cost spells to get your Spiteful Summoner value.

Cubelock
New no more! We've been playing around with Cubelock since Kobolds and Catacombs hit and it's still popular. This deck is the main reason why we're seeing a lot of Silence play through Spellbreaker and even the occasional Ironbeak Owl when budgets are tight.

That's probably not true, in the blizzard news section it says you drop 4 ranks from your highest rank, but then if you go inside the blog it says you drop 4 ranks from your current rank.
Until now you got bonus stars based on the current rank, so i can't see any reason why would they change it to highest rank suddenly.

"Player ranks will reset to exactly 4 ranks below your current standing, including the number of stars in that rank you earned. Here are some examples:
This is such good news for me. I get so angry when I am on a roll climbing up and then lose 2 ranks in an hour.
I'm pretty sure Ben Brode and some other developer guy later in the same post mentioned that you drop 4 ranks from where you are. Obviously, there's no star system once you hit legend rank.
I personally don't really care, but don't be surprised if you drop from rank 4 to 8, even if you managed to make it to rank 2, for example.
There was confusion around this at the time, and apparently the confusion is still there haha. We'll see in a couple days what the truth is I guess.
"Hey everyone,
Just an update regarding this announcement, from Ben Brode:
"I messed up in some of my posts/tweets regarding the ranked play update - both the reset and the ranked chest will be based on the highest rank you achieved during the month, *not* where you end the season. "
Cheers!"

I wasn't gonna read your Italian link because, well, I can't read that language lol. No need to be so patronizing about it when I was trying to be civil. This should clear things up though.
Because I, too, was confused haha. I looked for the sources after making that first post, like a true internet warrior.
I just honestly remembered Brode saying/tweeting that the chest and your new ranking were based on two different things (highest rank reached and current rank).
Honestly, even after seeing that though, I'm still only 90-95% sure that's how it'll actually work out lol.
All good. It was quite early in the morning for me, so I probably took more offense than I should have anyways haha. Is it Friday yet? =P
Or at least, another epic golden one. Rare just don't make it worth the effort, since I reached legend I don't bother grind further rank 5 each season.
I think that if you had the time and decks to make it to legend you shouldnt complain about free stuff cause you dont need it anyway.
I thought that it was liek this:
Rank 20: Golden common
Rank 15: Golden rare + Golden common
Rank 10: two golden rares
Rank 5: golden epic etc.
I'm pretty sure the rewards are like this:
Rank 20: Golden common
Rank 15: Golden rare + golden common
Rank 10: Golden rare + 2 golden commons
Rank 5: Golden epic + 2 golden commons
Legend: Golden epic + 3 golden commons
I only make it to rank 15 so i wouldn't know further rewards lol
Ranked is changing, and lo the casual players had even less incentive to grind the ladder.
Their matches will be easier since high level players won't fall as far, so I don't think your statement is accurate.
Sorry If this was asked already,
but does the highest or the final rank count for the reset, thanks
Anything good to counter Paladin decks? Seeing way too many of them on rank 6...
Controllock.
That's what I was afraid of...
