Hearthstone Ranked is Changing Forever! Play These Decks for End of Season Laddering
We're just a couple days away from the new ladder season and with it, a brand new way to play on the Hearthstone ladder. Before we get to the decks that are going to take you far though, let's recap what's happening with the ladder changes.
- Every rank of the ladder before Legend will have 5 star levels.
- When the season ends, you drop down 4 ranks and keep the same star level.
- No changes have been made to the win streak mechanic.
- Rank floors (20, 15, 10, 5) are all still in place.
There's also changes to the rewards structure.
- Card backs will now be earned after 5 wins for a month instead of by hitting rank 20.
- Ranked rewards go by your highest ranked earned during the season.
If you missed the original announcement of the ranked play changes, you can find Ben Brode's video on that right here. Now, let's look at some great decks that you should take with you to the ladder for the end of the season.
Silver Hand or Murloc Paladin
There are two different Paladin flavours that are currently at the top of the ladder as far as win rates are concerned. The only question is, do you believe in the dudes or are you at one with the mrglgl?

Secret Mage
An old favourite brought back from the sorta-kinda-not-really-dead. It has some difficulty with Paladins and Spiteful decks, but if you aren't seeing much of that and you're lucky enough to have Aluneth, this is a fantastic pick and a personal favourite.
A small sample of players have found it to be solid against Paladins. Your mileage may vary.

Secret Hunter
It's a trap! Recently brought to us from a Blizzard blog post, this deck is performing exceptionally well provided you don't run into either of the Paladin decks we've featured. It also requires some niche cards which don't see much use elsewhere so we can't recommend crafting them if you're saving dust for the upcoming expansion.

Spiteful Priest
Another deck that isn't doing great if all you see is Paladin, but it's doing great otherwise. It should go without saying you want to mulligan away your high-cost spells to get your Spiteful Summoner value.

Cubelock
New no more! We've been playing around with Cubelock since Kobolds and Catacombs hit and it's still popular. This deck is the main reason why we're seeing a lot of Silence play through Spellbreaker and even the occasional Ironbeak Owl when budgets are tight.

If you don't really like control/cubelock, I am having success with token shaman (evolve, maelstrom and 1 copy of lightning storm, dk). Devolving his 2/3 drops into useless 1/1s is really nice.
I am looking forward to this! Now I just have to rank from 9 to 5 to get my monthly golden epic and have fun with meme Decks the rest of the time :)
Or meme up to rank 5 and then use good decks to try to get out of the rank 5 loss pit. Takes longer to get there but the result is the same.
I reached legend two times. Both once in Standard and wild. I see no point in going there again anytime soon...
Needing 20 stars just to get back to where you finished last season does not bode well to us casual players...while I completely understand the logic behind dropping Legend players to rank 4 rather than 14, 5 stars per rank is quite a substantial amount.
A quick calculation got me to understand that while march drop would not be substantially larger than any other one for low-rank players, gaining it back up could be quite a task.
Exactly my thoughts. Great high ranked don't fall back so far, but for new or lower rank players even rank 15 could be hard to get to. I wonder if all rewards should be reviewed in light of this.
Gaining 50 stars for a new or 50/50ish winrate player to get a golden rare reward for a month of playing is a lot in my view.
So some good changes by Blizzard, but with an opportunity to balance rewards a little.
February will have an impact on march.
So you are only going 4 ranks down from this ladder reset forward
February rank will be the start. So if you end February at Rank 5, 1 star, you will start March at Rank 9, 1 star
If your highest rank is rank 5, 1 star, then you'll start March at rank 9, 1 star.
Great decks for the end of the season, i will try to to grind from 5 to legend in this last hours, wish me luck!
Good luck. :)
Where is my Warrior deck?
First. This is how these comments work, right?
No no no, you gotta have AT LEAST 5 exclamation marks to go with it. Can’t forget about those.
Keeping it hip, I see.
Can one first on his own post?
5? Don't forget that you need to keep the obvious 1s too: FIRST!!!!!1!!11!111 that's how it's written right. Don't forget: there is no too many exclamation-marks in a FIRST!!!!!1!!1!111 post, there is only too few!
