Yo guys, i have wanted to play with a cool emeriss deck for a very long time, but i REALLY suck at deck building. Anyone would like to help me? This is what i ve come up with so far
I had similar thoughts upon seeing the new expansion and will definitely be joining you in trying to make a couple fun Dragon Hunters this meta! I'm also no deck-building expert, but I just posted a version I'm currently testing that might give you some food-for-thought so I'm including it at the bottom (doesn't have Emeriss at the moment, but in the write-up I mention that adding an Emeriss + Void Ripper package is a potential alteration).
Regarding your current deck:
I could see aggro being an issue at the moment and was wondering if that's been the case in practice. If so, I'd consider removing some of the slower spells (Baited Arrow and Explosive Shot...and potentially a Flanking Strike) and replacing them with some anti-aggro spells like Explosive Trap, Wandering Monster, and/or Unleash the Hounds.
Card draw's the bane of all Hunters and I'm guessing you've run into that as well. I'd consider swapping the 2x Stitched Tracker for 2x Tracking to burn through your deck faster and get the card you need at the right moment. And if you swap some of your spells for anti-aggro as I mentioned above, then you could probably get away with dropping the 2x Mind Control Tech (though it is a fun card!) and adding in some more draw via Flare (given the popularity of secrets these days), Loot Hoarder, or even Acolyte of Pain given the potential activation through Dragonmaw Scorcher. Could also swap Acidic Swamp Ooze for Harrison Jones, though I haven't seen Jones much lately so he's probably not optimal at the moment :(
While you have a lot of fun cards in there, I think the deck might benefit from focusing on a few specific synergies and then making more than one dragon build if you want to play with some other cards too. For instance, Alexstrasza is a lot of fun, but I'm not sure it's necessary if you're really going for the Emeriss + King Krush finish. Likewise, I'm a big fan of Zilliax, but without any other mechs to magnetize into he's not as useful in this deck. I'm also not sure Houndmaster Shaw fits into the deck that well, but I'd have to see it in action. Here are two options I could see being fun if you choose to specialize on a dragon + _____ synergy:
Dragon+Beast Deck: You could ditch the spell anti-aggro strategy and swap it for some smaller beasts to enable beast + dragon synergies. What I have in mind is adding Springpaw, Crackling Razormaw, Marsh Drake, Ebon Dragonsmith, and Headhunter's Hatchet. Springpaw + Razormaw isn't a bad start and you can also use the razowmaw on your Scaleworm if you don't get it until later. Springpaw's extra lynx is also a handy way to kill the poisonous guy that's spawned by Marsh Drake if you play it on Turn 4, and so is the Candleshot you're running. Ebon Dragonsmith reduces the cost of Candleshot or Headhunter's Hatchet and the reduced cost of the Hatchet makes it more likely that you'll get the +1 buff even with only running 6 beasts (aside from zombeasts) because you can play it on the same turn as your beasties. I haven't tried this route myself, but think it could be fun.
Dragon+Mech Deck: I've also wanted to make a meme MechaDragon deck, but the idea I've had in mind has been too expensive dust-wise given other stuff I want to craft. Anyway, if you're like me and never got lucky unwrapping a Master Oakheart to pull out Dragonhatcher, then could we achieve the same effect in a mecha build that runs Meat Wagon as well as some buffs to get it to 3 Attack and then no other 1 or 2 Attack minions besides Dragonhatcher (and the cards used to buff Meat Wagon, if necessary). It would take a lot of theorycrafting to get it right, but my dream is to use something like Arena Fanatic while the wagon is in hand to give it +1, and then play the wagon on Turn 6 along with Fireworks Tech to give the final +1 and trigger the deathrattle. I'd run 2x Witchwood Piper to assist drawing the combo cards as well as some Secrets and Animal Companion for the early-game. And then obviously only big ol' dragons for the Dragonhatcher to draw like Deathwing, Alexstrasza, Emeriss, Ysera, and Sleepy Dragon. It's certainly fun to dream!
Totally agree with you on Keleseth...even if he improves the deck I want to play around with the discover a spell thingy too! :D
Sorry for the long post, but I encourage you to keep up the deckbuilding and we will eventually make Dragon Hunter at least semi-viable!!
Hehe, thanks for the feedback, yeah the issue with the draw is always that the draw spells and cards itself are so weak, i much rather play strong minions itself, i will keep you updated if i have any new succes i just put 2 bright eyed scouts in the deck and it s going pretty good so far
I am still toying arround with the firespeaker and i m not sure how good it is. added mech as well as big beast package :P
Problem is that it just currently doesn't do what other hunter decks do atm. I had fun with a dragon deck when Witchwood hit but it needs more support. From what we've seen so far next year seems to be heading into Year Of The Dragon so expecting to get something working then for hunter and warrior.

I definitely hear ya on the weakness of the draw spells/cards. As long as you find that you have enough steam to get to the combos and stuff that you want to play then there's no need to force them in. I like the idea of going with 2x bright eyed scout if you've decided to go all-in on the big packages as I seem to remember seeing scouts in some old Big Spell Mage decks that were viable. Once you find a deck that's works well for ya let us know!
And I agree about Firespeaker. It's been fun to test out a new card, but in my dragon-heavy deck there often really isn't a choice between spells because I don't run enough beasts to use half of them on. However, I have gotten a few Deadly Shot draws from it which have come in handy and have resulted in some Emoting from the other player ;P Don't see it being viable in a ladder deck though.
I play a Dragon Paladin that is pretty fun ... here are some of my ideas:
- I run Dragon Egg ... but only because I can buff it, it isn't great, but has gotten better because you can get some great value. So I don't think it is an option for you. - Crowd Roaster ... I think it is just too expensive, and because you're running Rexxar, craft a beast is a lot better at removing minions. I don't know, maybe 1 copy. - Dragonmaw Scorcher ... not good in Dragon Paladin ... and maybe not here either. I'd cut it. - Alex ... just too much ... and you have no follow-up for the next turn to burst the opponent down in one go. - King Krush ... see Alex, not needed really, there's no way, with this version, you have your opponent down to such a low health that you can just drop King Krush turn 9 (or 8 with coin) to deliver the final blow. - Primordial Drake ... maybe just one ... Wyrmguard might be an option if you want to make a controlling deck. - Mind Control Tech ... a tech card, make it a one-of and just add in a second tech card (Chief Inspector is really good at the moment, coupled with Flare) or a Silence. - Baited Arrow ... too slow with not enough upside. - Explosive Shot ... I don't like it here, what it its purpose ... to bruise the opponent's minions on board so your turn 4 minions can finish them off ... oh wait ... what turn 4 minions?
Cards I'd look to add: Personally, I'd try to get on the board earlier and so go for more early to mid game minions and cut lots of your big cards. - Nightmare Amalgam ... both a mech and dragon and useful for the early game. - Cobalt Scalebane ... just a good card. - Faerie Dragon ... to fight for early board. - Bone Drake ... not a bad value card in mid-game. (- Carrion Drake ... why not try out the Hunter-only dragon ... but it does require an early board).
Cards like Zilliax and Scaleworm are good, but there are there to help you maintain control of the board. So, if you don't have a board there's not much use for them because Zilliax will be a 3/2 that gets taken out by anything and Scaleworm will be a 5/2 or 5/1 normally.
- Cards that draw ... e.g. Countess Ashmore (but with an extra life steal/rush card if you include bone drakes).
Nice to hear some thoughts from someone who has been playing dragon decks recently!
Totally agree that in terms of optimizing a dragon deck I don't think Crowd Roaster or Dragonmaw Scorcher will make the final cut. I've had fun playing around with them in Casual, but if Scorcher can't find a home in a class that has Equality, then I don't see it making it in Hunter either.
I also like the idea of Nightmare Amalgam for a mech/dragon build and Carrion Drake for a beast/dragon build kinda like the one I mentioned above but with more early board minions like Dire Mole.
Problem is that it just currently doesn't do what other hunter decks do atm. I had fun with a dragon deck when Witchwood hit but it needs more support. From what we've seen so far next year seems to be heading into Year Of The Dragon so expecting to get something working then for hunter and warrior.
Yeah, definitely doesn't seem like dragon hunter will reach the heights of the current top tier decks, but it's still fun to theorycraft and I have hope that they'll make a Dragon Emeriss deck viable at some point before it rotates to Wild. Speaking of Wild, I'll have to revisit Dragon Hunter there as I remember having a lot of fun with Netherspite Historian (and hating when I saw that card played by a Priest, haha).
Just wanted to say that I bit the bullet and crafted Meat Wagon this evening and it's a pretty fun meme deck despite being high risk. If any of y'all have spare dust (and don't have Oakheart) I think it's worth a craft just to experience the combo.
Obviously you are not that strong against aggro decks, but i tried to really max out vs that many combo decks, that are currently playing, because your combo will be faster most of the time.
Edit: Thank you for suggesting me to add Harrison Jones <3 just killed the pala dk weapon with it <3
I am really happy with my list now, i just hit rank 3 and i am 9-2 with my current list. Thanks for all the input :)
This is great to hear and those screenshots look extremely satisfying! (Along w/the Harrison Jones pwning you pulled off, haha.) I think I'm only 500 dust short of your deck at the moment so I'll definitely have to try it out this evening. Congrats on hitting Rank 3!
When I tinkered with dragon hunter I thought Countess Ashmore would be an obvious inclusion. She can guarantee to pull your Oondasta, Zilliax and a copy of Highmane, which provide a serious late game if hit by Emeriss. I get that you choose a different path though, those card would be probably too greedy for this build.

That's a really good idea as well, but i don't like Savannah Highmane that much in the deck, i want the beasts to have a big impact on the board when summoned. I kinda dropped the dragon aspect a bit and focused on emeriss now. The best emeriss deck might also run secrets, but i have played mainly hunter the last months and i really just don't enjoy the spellstone things as much as i used to.
@Qulx So much for the dragon idea ... you've gone Big Hunter, too bad. I don't have Emeriss so the payoff to try for a Dragon Hunter for me is minimal, so I can't try it really.
Well i came up with the idea to go for dragon hunter because i wanted to use emeriss in the first place. For me, it didn't work out playing it with only dragons. The dragonmaw scorcher is really good in the deck, espescially when you face a lot of odd palas. Beeing 2nd vs that is a huge advantage. Also you are pretty much done if they go first and have level up. But if they don't, this card can save you big time.

Mc Tech might easily be replaced.
I took the suggestions of many ppl here and tinkered something.
