I don't blame people who've dusted this card in the past for doing so. Weapons in hearthstone have historically sucked. Pirates in hearthstone have historically sucked.
Things have really changed since 2018. Pirates have gotten a massive shot in the arm with each passing expansion, and now weapons are becoming ultra powerful. Things like Kingsbane and Spectral Cutlass have encouraged building decks around weapons, which had been missing from a game design standpoint, and raiding party is really what holds all the glue together (at this point in standard).
It's a scary aggressive card. While the stats are average, and adding an extra point of damage is great, it's adding that extra charge to your weapon that really makes this card fantastic. I'm a big fan, and I'm glad that this card is seeing play now.
In Odd Rogue this card can win you many games, especially vs armor-heavy classes like Druid.
+2 Dagger + 2x Poison + Greenskin = 21 dmg weapon, almost like a free Kingsbane.
Turns out giving your Kingsbane plus one durability is pretty worth it. The attack is nice as well, but an extra charge goes a long way.
Is it a good choice for a Kingsbane Rogue deck? Or is Valeera the Hollow better?
Use boths. Or, if you can't, just use Valeera
Even with Patches gone, Greenskin has become great again, thanks to the Legendary weapons.
Now I wonder if I regret dusted this card
feelsbadman he was my first legendary and also the first to be dusted
I regretted dusting him, even after he helped me get the Captain's Parrots.
He's pretty clutch in Jambre's Pirate Weapon tempo rogue deck. Runeforge Haunter enables preserving your buffed weapon over multiple turns, making Captain Greenskin, Naga Corsair, and Deadly Poison all the more powerful.
Yeah the Corsair is better at 4 mana
Just got this guy from a brawl pack, and now I want to play pirate warrior
What are the most important cards in pirate warrior and should I craft First?
Patches the Pirate is the deck's core piece so...
You need Patches the Pirate for one. Patches is the one card that finally makes Pirates good. Then you need Bloodsail Cultist and N'Zoth's First Mate. At that point you can add more Pirate synergy if you want to, like Southsea Captain, and Naga Corsair.
Thanks!
is it just me or I always thought he was from GvG
This card is insane, i don't know what people are complaining about. I'm playing it in my pirate warrior and his performance is absolutely ridiculous.
If you manage to curve out with weapon in hand to turn 5 and play him it's just impossible to loose. For pirate warrior the main source of damage are weapons, cuz this deck lacks draw, so getting +1 weapon swing is a very huge deal. This possibility alone cost at least one card by itself. And this is the 5\4 body with agressive stats attached to it.
The total amount of weapon upgrades in your deck is rising to 5 with him ( 2XUpgrade!, 2XBloodsail Cultist and 1XCaptain Greenskin) which is one hell of a problem for your opponent if he does not have weapon removal. I often managed to get a total of 4/6 Rusty Hook or 8/5 Arcanite Reaper which is absurd.
Imo this card is very good for certain type of decks (weapon centric)
Friend tried this with Doomhammer, particularly powerful with Brann Bronzebeard obviously - insane value... normally I'd say there are better ways to buff your weapon if you are a warrior, but shaman doesn't really have other options.
But if you get oozed or Harrisoned you'll be saltier than seawater.
Should I dust him or keep him for Pirate warrior? :)
I've tested him in my Pirate Aggro and he was more of a hassle in my hand than if I had played any other card, I would DE.
Edit for more clarification: I would rather play other cards on turn 5, like Arcanite Reaper, or maybe even Azure Drake. The game is most likely already won from my experience and you're just getting a "win more" effect out of him rather than a game turning ability or body value. Maybe if they changed his Battlecry to give your weapon a bigger Attack bonus but only if there is another pirate on the board...
I think Upgrade! is a much better card in general, since you can drop it on turn 6 with Reaper, or any time earlier with Fiery War Axe to really control the board, and you can fill the gaps on your curve if needed. And those we're not even talking about pirate decks here.
You can try running him if you already own him, and I think you will quickly come to the conclusion that I have. I would never go out of my way to craft him, he needs a buff if he wants to even be considered for the only deck archetype he could be included in.
