Geez Louise. It's a card game with crappy AI that isn't that hard. This isn't Pre-Nerf Inferno Hardcore Diablo 3. Anybody that starts touting World First Anything in Hearthstone is going to look like an idiot.

inzane14 posted a message on Why is it called "Zoo"? It's nothing new and was meta last year as well.Posted in: General DiscussionZoo is a term from MTG that most commonly describes a Naya colored control-aggro deck that used burn and cheap mana-efficient creatures like apes, lions, nacatls. Its one of the top deck types in the Modern format.
A while back, people say, at least from what I've heard that Reynad conceived Hearthstone's iteration when he promoted the use of Dire Wolf Alpha, Shieldbearer, and Doomguard into the original aggro shell to deal better trades. While Zoo isn't OP, as it is arguable that there is no such thing as a perfect deck, it is effective as a ladder climbing deck due to its speed and cheap crafting cost.
The deck's gone through a bit of iterations including other cards like Elven Archer and Amani Berserker as well. At the moment, its transitioning into a more Deathrattle based deck due to the addition of Naxx cards. -

Redose posted a message on Cooking With Nerubian Eggs (Popular Pre-Naxx Decks They Eggceed In)Posted in: Card DiscussionMain Ingredient
Nerubian Egg is a savory 2 mana 0/2 minion that summons a 4/4 minion upon death, and is most effective within Aggro and Midrange decklists. Your opponent does not want to kill this minion, so it will only die if its buffed and traded into a minion, or is given Taunt from another card.
Today, I'm putting the Chef's hat on to see if Nerubian Egg will be a worthy ingredient inside the juiciest, most popular pre-Naxxramas Aggro and Midrange decklists. Someone turn the stove on! Let's see if these decks have the enablers to get this egg nice and cooked! Gul'dan! That's not how you- PLEASE PUT THE SPATULA DOW-

Malfurion is the type of Druid that sprinkles paprika on his deviled eggs. It adds a whole new dimension to his egg-game which is exactly what these decks will do with Nerubian Egg inside them. Time to open up the pantry and start sprinkling on buffs left, right, and center. Mark of Nature, Mark of the Wild, and Power of the Wild are huge enablers so expect Nerubian Egg to surge in popularity in Token Druid decklists. Poison Seeds will boil the eggs to the perfect temperature. Mmmmm, just the right amount of seasoning. I think he added some Old Bay on mine. Culturally aware, this one.

Blessing of Kings isn't as common as the other two, and is usually only x1 if at all. So, at 1-2 copies of each, are 8-9 enablers enough to make Nerubian Egg viable in Shockadin or Midrange?
Absolutely. Even the Wild Pyromancer + Equality combo squeezes value out of the egg. The decks may not have Taunt givers, but they know their way around the kitchen, and Uther makes one mean omelet. And by that I mean he burns them. Guy's been hanging around Wild Pyromancer a lot lately. I'll grab the fire extinguisher.

Backspace Rogue does not have the enablers to make Nerubian Egg viable since it doesn't run Backstab. Besides, Valeera's not one to use an Eviscerate on some smelly old egg so that spell is out of the question. Using Cold Blood to give it attack or SI:7 Agent to kill it off just isn't enough. Midrange with Backstabs could work but they're better used on the opponent's early board. Valeera's just not a fan of mayo on her BLT. I also heard she doesn't like potato salad. Kind of weird.

Turn 2 Nerubian Egg into Turn 3 Flametongue Totem to trade... I can already smell the value wafting from the skillet. Defender of Argus loves Thrall's cooking, so he's always available to help with the groceries. Reincarnate won't typically be used on eggs within Crusher Shaman. Bloodlust is a fine enabler, and Rockbiter Weapon is perfect for flipping a sizzling egg at just the right angle. Thrall's a big fan of sunny-side up.

Warriors are teeth-gritting, fist-clenching, accidentally give a warcry when they sneeze type guys. But surprisingly decent caretaker of eggs! Sure, they might drop one once in a while in the middle of battle, but for the most part they keep them in their pocket for good luck. Garrosh is basically the Easter Bunny of Azeroth. Nerubian Egg is not viable enough for Aggro or Tempo Warriors with only 2-3 enablers.

Eggs are commonplace in real life zoos, nestled against their domesticated parents inside their artificially human-made habitats at predetermined temperatures and humidity levels. So it should come as no surprise that eggs too find a home in Hearthstone's Warlock Zoo. Did somebody say enablers? Nerubian Egg needs attack? Gul'dan's feeling generous. Here, have 1 from Defender of Argus, Dire Wolf Alpha, or Shattered Sun Cleric. Take 2 from Abusive Sergeant or Dark Iron Dwarf's battlecry. Take 4 from Power Overwhelming! You can even play Void Terror next to it for supreme value. Nerubian Egg is undoubtedly the most viable in Zoo because let's face it, this egg is all over the place. Needless to say, Gul'dan likes his scrambled. On his plate. The walls. MY DOG.

user-9191802 posted a message on Wailing Soul deck ideasPosted in: Card DiscussionIt could combo well with certain specific cards, mostly neutral Naxx cards. Ideal scenario being:
Turn 1 Zombie Chow
Turn 2 Ancient Watcher
Turn 3 Deathlord or Dancing Swords
Turn 4 Wailing Soul
You really want to silence 2 negative card texts, otherwise you may as well just run a Spellbreaker, as that has so much more versatility.
It's an interesting card, but you would have to build an entire deck around it.

ThyEmptyLord posted a message on [Curse of Naxxramas] Thaddius Card DiscussionPosted in: Card DiscussionIn a handlock deck it would actually be fairly simple to get him out assuming you get both legendaries pre-turn 9 which isn't terribly difficult with all the card draw you do.
Turn 4-7 you play Feugen for a solid 4/7 which helps clear the opponent's board. It does not matter if Feugen gets silenced.
Turn 8-9 you play Stalagg and Shadowflame clearing the opponent's board with 7 aoe damage and leaving yourself with an 11/11.
At this point you have almost certainly played a giant or two and perhaps a twilight drake, necessitating the use of hard removals/bgh, etc. An 11/11 on a clear board in phenomenal for you and finished the game.
Even if this doesn't end up quite working out, and honestly it doesn't really take much for it to work out, you still have two solid minions on board that the opponent has to deal with. Feugen helps you maintain board presence/control which Stalagg creates a threat practically equal to a giant, and likely after the opponent has been forced to expend removal on the giants.

Redose posted a message on The Differences Between Control and Midrange ShamanPosted in: ShamanThe Differences Between Control and Midrange Shaman
For new players it can be difficult to discern what makes a Midrange Shaman decklist differ from a Control one. Often times when you look through the "Decks" section of Hearthpwn it can be quite confusing. Decks that are listed as Control are actually Midrange and decks that are Midrange are incorrectly labeled as Control. I'm here to clear the air.
First, let's clarify what Control and Midrange mean. A Control deck's goal is to do just that, control the game. Always clearing the opponent's board while establishing board control by any means necessary. Rarely pushing for lethal damage early on and always making optimal trades. Midrange decks have the option to be more aggressive than Control. They are at a middle-ground between Control and Aggro if you will. Midrange decks will have a few cards that increase potential burst damage. To be able to push for damage on a whim is one of the advantages of playing Midrange, while Control is typically much slower and safer. Midrange still wants to clear, but they're not afraid to let their opponent have some minions on board in order to setup lethal in the coming turns. Control decks have burst in the form of Argent Commander, and Al'Akir the Windlord + Rockbiter Weapon(s), but not nearly as much as Midrange.
So how do you differentiate Control Shaman from Midrange Shaman? What cards do you look for? To earn a greater understanding, I will dissect two popular Shaman decklists that are correctly labeled, and discuss what makes them different from each other.Control Shaman:

Card Choices
VS.
Control Shamans prefer Chillwind Yeti over Violet Teacher because it trades better with the opponent's minions allowing for safer board control.
Midrange Shamans use Violet Teacher because it increases potential DPT (Damage Per Turn) with the tokens it produces, allowing for more potential burst damage from cards like Flametongue Totem and Bloodlust on future turns.
VS.
Control Shamans typically use Argent Commander as removal. Think of it as a 6 mana, 4 damage spell that summons a vanilla 4/2 minion.
Doomhammer is the poster child of Midrange Shaman. Not only is it value board clear over multiple turns, it's burst damage potential is through the roof. x1 Rockbiter Weapon on Doomhammer is 10 damage (5 damage twice), while x2 Rockbiter Weapon is 16 damage (8 damage twice).
x2 VS. &
Control Shamans use Defender of Argus because it strengthens their own board and allows for better trades, giving them more control over the game. It's most useful against Aggro decks, especially if they go for face, allowing your Totems to stay on board.
This Midrange Shaman deck uses Bloodlust and Lava Burst over safer board control type minions in order to have more burst damage potential. Midrange Shamans typically sacrifice safety for burst.
Conclusion
Control and Midrange Shamans depart from each other because of card choices that affect play-style. Control Shamans use safer cards that trade well with the opponent's board, while Midrange Shamans choose cards that give them more burst damage potential. Know what to look for when labeling your own Shaman decklist. If the deck is slower with ample removal, does not have the flexibility to push for face damage early on, and uses cards that trade better rather than tech cards, it is a Control deck. If the deck sacrifices safety for added burst damage potential it is a Midrange deck. Control and Midrange decklists do have strong similarities in the Class specific spells they use, but key cards set them apart that completely change the way games play out.

80 ways to make 4 hits on a 4x minion.. he's dead.
Now here's where your math is wrong. After the 4x minion is hit for the fourth time.. there is no further possibility of a fifth hit. If it were possible to hit him 5,6,7 or 8 times then you would include these possibilities in creating your simple fraction of (Outcomes where 4x minion dies/All possible outcomes = probability). This is where you are getting the 163/256 = 63.67% from and its just wrong. because 163 possibilities don't exist where he gets hit 4 times. Only 80 possibilities exist where he gets hit four times, because he cannot get hit 5, 6, 7 or 8 times.
There are only in fact 173 (1+8+28+56+80) possible outcomes. 80 of them he gets hit four times.
80/173 = .462 A 46% chance a 4x minion will die from a 50/50 chance sequence (and SEQUENCE is the key word) of 8 hits. -

Play something more respectable than zoo?
But really, you're saying hearthstone is broken because you didn't draw a 1-drop? If you shuffle a deck of playing cards, draw 5, and don't get an Ace, is the deck broken?
