Sure, but that isn't a healthy way to balance a game IMO. Jade Druid feasted on Razakus Priest, Burn Mage countered Cubelock, Freeze Mage and Control Warrior technically countered Midrange Shaman, etc... but those decks still got nerfed. Forcing people to play an archetype or deck they don't want to pilot just to stand a realistic chance against a polarizing/dominant deck is not a good way to keep players coming back for more. Tech cards, while not perfect, are a better solution in my mind. I am actually more upset that there isn't a Kingsbane tech for wild then I am about not having a Dirty Rat 2.0 in standard,
I think control warrior and mech and non-mech zoo/aggro decks may actually bully shudderwock shaman out of the meta. So despite the fact that there is no true neutral counter, I think people will stop asking for it because the deck will stop dominating the ladder.
It does have a counter. Warlocks have their demonic spell counter tech card. It is like saying Taunt Druid has no counter because only mages & shamans have reliable transform effects (Tinkmaster is rng on top of normal WH rng).
I can't help but feel that this thread is just another "Since combo decks naturally win the rock-paper-scissors game against control due to the nature of control decks not trying to actually kill you, they should then be nerfed and countered by every deck".
I think that warrior is gonna be an excellent counter. The Boomship is gonna put so much value on the board, that the shudderwock simply gonna lose instantly. If they don't already got a lead, which I doubt they will, they'll lose.

There is a counter for Shudderwock right now, but I know a lot of people don’t like it. In order to counter Shudderwock, you have to play an aggro deck, go face, and hope they don’t draw cards like healing rain.
Do I think Shudderwock needs nerfed? Yes. The card is toxic. It just straight up bullies control decks, and it requires that you basically just play your deck to set him up (the deck is hard to play, but activating him just requires playing a few specific minions). But short of a nerf, an aggro deck like Odd Rogue is the best bet to beat Shudderwock Shaman.
In theory every Control deck can counter Shudderwock now!
Since with the new patch you get all discounts aswell , you just need to play idk 2 Lifedrinker and maybe a Vulcanic Drake or some other Minion with an aoe effekt (like Dustbreaker or whatever). After Shamans go of with their Shudderwock , you just steal their Deck with Azalina ,and play some 1 mana Shudderwocks. Because of Azalinas Battlecry you will always get a new deck from him^^ Usually you shouldnt be ahaed in fatuige so you win :)
With Boomsday, Shudderwock should be pretty far on the decline, since Control decks can use Azalina Soulthief to copy your opponent's Shudderwocks as 1 Mana cards infinitely, and Warrior should actually be able to out-armor the damage from Shudderwock. On top of that, aggro is still going to be a very serious force in the meta with Zoolock getting new tools, and Malygos Druid will be able to destroy Shudderwock because it's the faster, and thus better combo deck in the matchup. Even though we didn't get a direct counter card to Shudderwock, (besides Demonic Project ofc) the state of the meta and the mechanic change with Azalina Soulthief will probably push it down to a tier 2 or 3 deck, where it'll see a lot less play.
Shudderwock, (like quest rogue before) is a cancer for this game. Auto pilot decks should be removed from card's games
When you've been playing the game for awhile most decks turn into auto pilot decks once you become familiar with the deck. I could list off countless decks in standard or wild, across all playstyles of aggro, midrange, control, & combo, that have clear and obvious game plans for most match-ups in their related format.
No clue why people seem to pick on combo or aggro decks and call them auto-pilot or cancer and then act like wild evolve shaman, odd rogue, kingsbane rogue, big spell mage, reno lock, etc are any less straightforward. This game is not chess. While I am by far no perfect player I've never experienced intense cognitive dissonance when figuring out what to do to win when playing various other control or midrange decks.
I'll say it again. Azalina is not going to do anything to counter shudderwock. He still gets to play 10 shudderwocks after his first ones. You aren't surviving that damage. The warrior version maybe but it has many flaws.
It will be strong tempo, aggro and mid range decks that kill it. Not some slow Azalina deck.
The version with Bring it on to play 0 mana infinite shudderwock is close to surewin vs the deck
The latest HCT event has proven conclusively that control warrior has an ironclad shutdown with far fewer cards than SW needs to set up the combo in the first place.

After Witchwood, I was strongly hoping they would realize how bad the card (Shudderwock) is for the game. I was hoping they'd change it and make it into something a lot more balanced. So far, I see no counter to Shudderwock in the newest expansion.
How do you feel about not being changed yet, and having no counter ?
gigantic counter to shuderwok. it's amazing. you have your own lie drinkers so you can take from their health too. azalina keeps adding zero cost shuderwoks to your hand so you can keep playing. As far as I can tell this is the best counter currently. I have seen some crazy decks built just for killing shuderwok using this basicaly idea of using azalina.
It's not too slow neither, I have seen it in action a few times now and apparently there are more and more of them showing up now.

According to the people in this thread half of the decks nerfed in hearthstone history shouldn't ever be nerfed. Ok, all right lol.
Top deck is cheat
Shudderwock recieved no real new tools. Lots of other decks did. It’s also not a tier 1 win rate.
Look up a few guides on how to play against it. A lot of people who ‘can’t beat it’ are making large mistakes.

Try my deck, I climbed rank 7 to rank 5 with 12 win 2 lost.
