This week's theme comes from ME , as my "Mecha'Zoth" was the winner of our These Go To Eleven competition!
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
You must make a Trial card, a custom card type of my design!
Trials are like reverse-Quests: they give you a buff or bonus immediately, in exchange for a penalty or rule you must follow for the rest of the game.
I created them for our Timestream Tracking competition: they were the heart of my expansion before a dumb, unforced error got me disqualified. Help me process my grief by revisiting this traumatic event DX
Check out the spoiler below to learn about the namesake Legendaries of The Trials Within Us :
The Trials Within Us told nine separate tales of defeating one's personal demons and tackling adversity. The Trial cards were meant to do just that, referencing various people and events across Warcraft's timeline. Preferably, your Trial should also tell some kind of story.
Below are two examples. The collectible card with the Start of Game benefit is called the Trial (the top two), while the "token" describing the negative effect you have to deal with is called the Burden (the bottom two):
Trials do not cost mana because they are played automatically at the start of the game. They take up space in your deck initially, but cannot be drawn or generated and they disappear from your deck after the mulligan.
Trials are technically Even-cost (Zero being an even #). This means they work with Genn Greymane , reflecting Baku the Mooneater 's synergy with Quests.
A reminder for the Burden would take the form of a purple gem, just like the orange gem for Quests: when you hover over it in-game, you would see the token card.
Also, like with Journey to Un'Goro, you have to assume there will be other cards related to your Trial released at the same time. When you go to upvote other people's Trials, you shouldn't think about them in a vacuum.
General Competition Rules
These are the rules that remain consistent from competition to competition.
First, these are the rules about Posting:
You are allowed to submit only one entry . An entry normally consists of only one collectible card, plus any necessary additional material or commentary (explained below).
You are allowed to post in this Submission Topic only once , only to submit your one entry.
You may not delete ANY posts you make in this Submission Topic , not even accidental ones you may make over your one allowed, such as by double-posting or by accidentally posting something here that you meant for the Discussion Topic. If you do accidentally post more than once, inform any of the Fan Creation Forum moderators via PM, and we will handle it.
Speaking of the Discussion Topic, that is where any discussion of this competition should go. This thread is for submissions only . If you want to discuss your card or ask questions about the competition rules or process, you can find a link to the Discussion Topic at the top of this thread. Plenty of folks there will be happy to help you out.
Once you have submitted your one entry, you are allowed to make only minor changes to it. Minor changes are things like correcting typos or making balance changes that do not alter the spirit of your entry as determined by we the moderators. If you want to make any changes and have any doubts as to their legality, ask us first.
These are the rules about your Submission:
Accompanying the image of your card, you may offer some minimal additional commentary to explain its design, balance, and/or other qualities. Flavor text is also welcome.
You may not submit any Gold cards or animated cards. (It's just a cheap attention grab tactic that makes it unnecessarily difficult to determine what class your card is for.)
Your entry must be a card of your own creation . We've been doing this for a while, so if you blatantly rip off somebody else's idea, we will know.
Remember that, although HearthCards is awesome, you MUST host your card somewhere other than Hearthcards. Save it and upload it to Imgur , Photobucket , or some other similar site. HearthCards has a limited server space and will purge cards after a few days, and nobody wants your card disappearing part-way through the finals. We understand that there are some HearthCards memberships that will allow you to save your card there for longer (and you should totally get one of those just for general fan creation purposes, by the way), but we don't know who has those memberships and we can't tell from the URLs.
Fun and even humorous entries are perfectly allowed, but "troll" entries will be disqualified. If you're worried that your card may be misinterpreted as a troll card, contact a moderator before you submit. Emote-related cards will be considered a troll entry.
We reserve the right to classify cards as "troll" entries as we deem necessary, even if the reasoning is not explicitly stated in the rules.
A Note on Group Submissions: if you team up with other people to submit an entry, you must enclose that information in your submission and none of you may upvote that entry. That would be considered an unfair advantage and we will treat it as vote-manipulation. You are technically voting for yourself, and that is not allowed. Failing to tell us you're in a group is also against the rules, as we'll have no choice but to assume that you withheld the information to ghost-vote your group's submission.
TIP: Though not a rule exactly, we highly recommend that you insert your images using this icon on the bar above the post text editor: . Just click that button and put in the URL of your image. Cards that are uploaded and attached to your post are not disallowed, but in our experience they will not do nearly as well, so this is for your own benefit more than anything.
Finally, know that manipulating votes in any way is strictly forbidden. Any violators will receive an official warning, and will be banned from this and all future HearthPwn Card Design Competitions.
Competition Process
Preview Phase (Starts Now! Ends 21:00 UTC 20/9/2018) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme. Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 20/9/2018, Ends 21:00 UTC 24/9/2018) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 24/9/2018, Ends 21:00 UTC 25/9/2018) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites! Final Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 25/9/2018, Ends 21:00 UTC 26/9/2018) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
How do we determine the qualifying finalists? First, we'll pull up-vote data from each submission using the formula detailed below:
( ab ) / ( c ) = x
Where, a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission. b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received. c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission. x = The submission's final score.
The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.
The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.
But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a Wild Card , which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun. (Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)
Rewards
Bragging rights are always awesome, but as usual, we do offer a couple of HearthPwn site rewards to competition winners: Their card forever immortalized in our Winners' Gallery ! They will be allowed to select the next card design competition theme. And a unique Avatar Border & " Card Design Champion " Title, as depicted below!

Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
The idea comes from WOW lores. In the burning crusade, Illidan creates fel orcs from the blood of the pit lord he defeated to fight for him. By running this card as a warlock, you will be able to experience the sheer power of the Lord of Outland. As a setback, though, your bloody army may betray your command, or even turns their swords toward you - a tragic yet ironic outcome for the WOW legend. In hearthstone gameplay, the force of fel orcs will be most strong when there are lots of enemies to kill, so that the chance of your minions actually attacking yourself is diluted. But after the minion war is favoring you, you may find illidan’s strength turned into a weakness.
Just to clarify, I did not in any way copy the idea above mine. I spent all day thinking about this yesterday, and the first post just happened to be similar. XD
I know nothing about WOW lore, so I just tried to make a simple yet creative and playable trial that is interesting.
Edit: I felt like Rush fits the Warrior class a lot and when you think about it, beer really does give people a Rush, doesn't it?
The text is a bit ambiguous, but Fleeting Foresight shuffles away any card that didn't come into your hand either through your mulligan, or at the start of one of your turns. Cards from
Fire Fly
,
Grumble, Worldshaker
,
Hagatha the Witch
and other similar effects get shuffled away, so this isn't as broken in
Shudderwock
as it might look.
Notes & Strategy
You don't keep enchantments like cost discounts from Grumble when cards go from hand to deck, so if you fail to play with the card properly you can massively ruin your draws. Also to be noted is that because Fleeting Foresight will enter the battlefield at the start of the game, and triggers that happen at the same time resolve in play order, Fleeting Foresight will shuffle cards into your deck before a card like
Mana Tide Totem
or
The Lich King
will trigger, allowing you to keep those cards around for your next turn.
There are a lot of janky ways to build this deck, utilizing different combos and mixes of neutral and Shaman cards to maximize your draw value without losing cards. Here are a few combos you can pull off:
Note you HAVE to cast the effect if there is a monster on the field that has 3 Attack or less and the Lightwarden spawn AFTER you've cast the destruction effect.
Being a disciple of the Light and Shadow has always been a big theme in Priest. Will you kill off the threatening Lightwarden? Or will you kill off another of the enemy minion? If the latter, can you make sure that your other cards can still kill off the Lightwarden(s) before she became a significant threat? Or will your opponent heal/buff cards stick on the Lightwarden and make favorable trade / damage? And your opponent can have a lot of counterplay by simply trade off the Lightwarden(s) to your minions and turn the Trial against you. Is using your Hero Power (
Lesser Heal
) worth it if it buffs the Lightwarden(s)? These are questions only a true master of the Light and the Shadow can answer.
Flavor text
: "So you're telling me you accepted a heart transplant from a shady looking old woman in the middle of a haunted forest."
Idea behind the card
:
Inspired by the Monster Hunt boss,
Glinda Crowskin
,
Glinda's "Gift"
offers you great power, almost "forcing" your opponents to trade into your minions, at a great price.
Life Tap
only dealing 1 damage,
Pit Lord
only dealing 3 damage, paying half the Health cost with
Chittering Tunneler
and such. Warlock has a lot of very powerful cards that inflict damage to your hero as a drawback.
And not only your own cards,
Glinda's "Gift"
halves damage deal to your hero from
all sources
, including enemies.
But make sure you built your deck to keep you alive consistently and on the board consistently, losing your minions AND Health is a great disadvantage you'll have to try to mitigate with healing such as
Lesser Amethyst Spellstone
,
Siphon Life
or even minions, that other than healing your hero, also keep you on the board and your Trial card active, like
Reno Jackson
,
Shroom Brewer
or even
Deathweb Spider
. You probably don't want to have too many high Health minions on the board at the same time because a clear that normally wouldn't deal any damage to your hero, like
Twisting Nether
, might actually just kill you!
Plus, don't forget that when your last minion dies, you're gonna take full damage because
Glinda's "Gift"
's effect will be disabled.
Each point of damage might be the difference between winning or losing the match.
I tried creating a card that could push Warlock in a different direction than the one we're used seeing, maybe even spotlight some very old cards that never had their chance to see play.
I'm not sure if I did a good job conveying that feeling, but I definitely tried.
The idea is that the Trial would provide amazing synergy with things such as Maly Rogue and the Rogue Quest. However, the Burden would be quite a steep costs; 6 cards for you hand total instead of 10. I got the idea that all the added minions were like mercenaries, and you had to 'pay' them, hence the lower hand size.
Flavor Text:
He hired me. For 30 pieces of silver. All I had to do was kill eight devils and return to him.
"The flow of time is always cruel... its speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it... A thing that does not change with time is a memory of younger days..."
This is the Submission Topic. The Discussion Topic is here.

My idea is to make some warlock that can play negative battlecry minions and have some synergy with discard minions like from Karazhan...
The flavor is simple — a warlock have given Fel magic, but the price is high — you lost one card every turn :))
Edit: Updloaded card with wrong art :P
