A Hearthstone fan creation is an idea made by yourself that has not been published by Blizzard/Team 5.
"What would count as a fan creation?"
A Hearthstone fan creation would be a custom card, mechanic (keywords included), adventure, expansion or a hero.
"Where do I create Hearthstone fan creations?"
Hearthcards.net is the most popular and possibly the best one that currently exists. It can create everything that is Hearthstone-related (Minions, Spell, Weapons and Hero Portraits and Conversation lines).
"Why can't you store a card in Hearthcards?"
Hearthcards has a limited amount of storage, and after about 3 days, your cards will be pruned/eliminated/deleted from its storage, so it's up to you to save your card manually into a storage like Imgur or Photobucket.
"How do I post my images with my comment and not attach it to the comment?"
On the comment, press the "Insert/edit Image" button (it looks like two mountains and a sun) and insert a link that features the image. Make sure that your link comes from sites like Imgur and Photobucket, and it's a "Direct Link"! Otherwise it won't work correctly.
"I have a custom creation! How do I post it so that others can see it?"
You can show your custom creation by creating a new thread, or attach it to a post to a thread you want to comment on. Make sure however that your posts do not break the community guidelines.
"Where do I get help with balance/Where can I get some good art for my creations?"

Weekly Card Design Competition (WDC)
"What is the WDC?"
As the name says, the Weekly Card Design Competition is a competition for everyone held every week, with the goal of creating a fan created card under a certain restriction, in order to make each competition a new experience for all.
"How do I know the restrictions of the current competition?"
It's listed at the beginning of the threads regarding the WDC. These are: the discussion topic, the submission topic and the final poll.
"What's the difference between the discussion topic, the submission topic and the final poll?"
In the discussion topic, you basically discuss about the competition. Here you can share your ideas with other competitors, and give feedback to others.
In the submission topic, only fan creations are allowed, which means no discussions to other players about how OP their card is. That belongs in the discussion topic. In here, you vote for your favorite cards you wish to enter the finals.
In the final poll, you can discuss about the finalists voted by the people, and your opinion about the competition in general. And of course, you can also vote for which cards that you want to win the competition.
"Can I change something in my submission?"
You can only change stuff like wording or a minor stat change, but not changes that are notable, like changing the entire effect of a card.
"What can get me disqualified in the WDC?"
You can get disqualified by posting something that is against the competition rules (both the general and for the current weeks) or for posting an idea that would not work in Hearthstone (like discovering a card through a deathrattle). However, you can also get banned from the competitions forever (a very long time!) if you manipulate the voting system (like making tons of spare accounts to vote for your entry).
"How do the moderators determine who gets to the finals?"
Some official notes from the moderators:
How do we determine the qualifying finalists? First, we'll pull up-vote data from each submission using the formula detailed below:
(ab) / (c) = x
Where,
a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission.
b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received.
c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission.
x = The submission's final score.
The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.
The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.
But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a Wild Card, which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun.
(Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)
"What do you win in the WDC?"
The first time you win the WDC, you will get a nice frame on your profile picture, and gain the title of "Card Design Champion" (as seen below). You will also have your card immortalized in the Winners Gallery, and choose the theme for the next weeks competition!
(Note that if you win the WDC again, you won't get the "Card Design Champion" title and frame again.)
"I accidentally double-posted!/I don't like my card! How do I delete my post?"
PM a moderator, and they will fix it for you. Note that any accidental posts you make, must stay on the thread, unless you contact a moderator.
"I got a Public Mod Notice! What does that mean?"
Getting a Public Mod Notice basically means that a mod has found an error on your entry, and it will be disqualified in 24 hours, unless you fix it. The reason why is always stated, and if you want more information, PM the moderator who gave you the notice.
"Why was this thread created?"
This thread was created for the newcomers to the Fan Creations Forum, to help them out on the problems they come across on this part of the forum, by basically answering Frequently Asked Questions.

Nice idea! I would be clearer though about the public mod notes. When they appear, you have 24 hours to fix the issue before being DQed. Or something like that.

Something like that. We mods don't actually care when the card is fixed, as long as it's before the topic closes. The purpose of the public mod note is to highlight the entries for ourselves when doing disquals (This is done right before the final poll topic), and to show people that this kind of entry does not fit this weeks rules. It is, however, in your best interest to change it as soon as possible, as people aren't going to vote for something that's going to be disqualified anyway.

Thanks for the info!! Another quick question - when I go through submissions towards the end of the upvoting phase, there are always a number of entries that I believe meet criteria for being DQed that aren't marked by a mod... are these still DQed when making calculations? Can y'all be more consistent with marking entries as potentially DQed? xD mod love!!! <3 <3 <3

Yeah, any entries which go against the rules - golden cards, doesn't meet the requirements that week, whatever - are always disqualified. After we do the initial sweep of HCs cards and anything we marked, we make sure to also check and disqualify anything we missed. And yeah, I do want to get better about actively marking everything that is against the rules, even down to the last few pages.

Then you must step up your game, you're right now commenting on something I made!
Just kidding. I have no plans on becoming a mod myself, but if you are, aim for the stars (it's infinite)!
