When does a meta not revolve around beating a certain deck? Though I'd say the meta revolves around beating Paladin.
Previously it revolved around beating combo Priest, Pirate warrior, aggro shaman, face hunter and whatever dominant deck you can imagine. If your deck can't win against the popular decks you are in trouble.
In order to generate novelty, they are forced to try on new powerlevels.
So that Standard will always be the focus of innovation, and Wild a refinement of it in most cases.
Problem is that KaC was probably the worst expansion ever. Not even in terms of balance, but in terms of powerlevel: it's impossible to get rid of Cubelock, Dudeadin and Spitefuls without completely warping the game (it is actually already warped by them).
Hopefully, the next turn of nerfs will be harsh and widespread enough to let the game breath a bit.
As a sidenote: Odd and Even decks are the most vulnerable to nerfs, for a slight mana shift could make some strategies simply unavailable to them...
Despite what anyone believes, cards are hall of famed simply to keep the meta diverse and healthy. Rag for example was famed because he went, back then, into every deck that wasn't full smorc or full control
If a card sees over-representation, or causes issues for the community, it's hall of famed. That's why the coldlight faming was earned.
"I have seen worlds bathed in the Makers' flames, their denizens fading without as much as a whimper. Entire planetary systems born and razed in the time that it takes your mortal hearts to beat once. Yet all throughout, my own heart devoid of emotion... of empathy. I. Have. Felt. Nothing. A million-million lives wasted. Had they all held within them your tenacity? Had they all loved life as you do?"
5 different decks that are all pretty good. Shamanstone you'd be lucky to get 1 out of 3 games against something other than midrange shaman. That was absolutely the worst meta ever for diversity, closely followed by undertaker Hunter, though the game was less popular back then so it was harder to netdeck the 'taker lists.
Current meta is not bad, and they've deliberately made this set a bit bad so there's room for the next two sets to be stronger power-wise.
How is that a diversity? Control lock and cube lock does basically the same BS but its just less oppressive. Spiteful druid and spiteful priest is also the same BS = deck built around massive tempo gain on t6. Baku rogue? It's just another aggro deck that spams small minions, hit you in the face and prays on top decks when hand is gone = just another aggro deck we've seen tons of, nothing really different.
So basically you have warlock which has been dominating a meta since the launch of kobolds, new cancer spiteful decks (super fun to play against), and typical aggro deck which brings nothing new to experience.

I had been thinking the same lately : an intermediate wild format with a bunch of rotating constraints would guarantee more diversity and put emphasize a bit more on deck building skills rather than just trying to play perfectly net decked lists.

Why would you think that when Tavern brawls and new expansions are netdecked within hours?
Actually, with every rotation more and more people will play Wild. Eventually, Wild might even get more popular than Standart.
Talking about myself, I began to play about 2-3 weeks before the release of Un'Goro and i remember very good how i was playing wacky homebrew C'thun Elemental Control Paladin (yeah rank 17 meta was and always will be crazy) and got obliterated by Burn mage with Flamewaker which i didnt manage to kill and got snowballed. Obviously, I instantly decided to craft this card, it looked crazy powerful. But just couldnt find it, little did I know it was in Blackrock, lul. Then rotation happened and to the moment i learned how to get it it was already Wild, and i decided not to craft it because of my little card collection and Big Bad Scary Wild Mode with powerful decks full of big legendaries.
Now, a whole year later, having decent collection, and almost third of it is now Wild-only, i play Wild regularly, almost as much as Standart, (which seems kinda boring now) because many of my fav cards and decks are there.
So, i guess what I am trying to say now is that with time, more people will play Wild because they can play their favorite decks and cards and maybe someday Wild can even became more prevalent than Standart.
I have found people, who pay 50 EUR/dollars for Witchwood and playing Cubelock with 1 Witchwood card hilarious :D Genius Blizzard!
But its important not to point a fingers on game, but the comunity. This website for example. How many kidos just come here for ctrlc ctrlv decks daily? This will never change.
Few days ago, the game was like 60-70% paladins around 15 ranks. Anti-paladins deck was a pure joy to play. Now they will switch to something else i guess and il be there to farm them :D
Witchwood didin't give us new decks. Even and Odd decks don't feel new. They play like old decks so there is no newness in our minds. Genn Greymane and Baku the Mooneater are the most impactful cards. But their decks feel too familiar.
After the first rotation, Whispers of the Old Gods gave us 2 Cthun decks, 2 Nzothdecks, and 2 Yogg decks.
Ungoro injected 2 big quest decks and solidified Murloc Paladin as a thing
It's like a sport dynasty. Seeing the same decks in the playoffs over and over and over gets boring after a while.

Yeah I mean now this stuff makes sense to us, and I find myself always debating between twlight drake, azure drake, and cobalt in my homebrew wild dragon decks. The issue was back then, when decks didn't have curves, some just very strong cards always saw play

Again it's not a diversity problem
It's an staleness problem.
