I usually play hearthstone for 1month or a little bit more when ever an expansion comes out, then the meta gets stale and I wait for the next expansion. This time, not even a week, the ladder is filled with cubelocks and aggro decks.
Im not even talking about high legend, I started r25 since I haven't played last season, and I'm constantly facing full lists of the best meta decks. People are whining about the Shudderwock when it gets crushed by cubelock and doesn't even do well against aggro. Every deck I try and build either auto loses to cubelock, which is 40% of my matchup, or auto loses to aggro, which is another 40%. And even with a aggro deck, I still lose to cubelock when they don't draw bad. I've played for quit a long time so I have a pretty big collection of cards, but some of my friends, who are new players, don't. They don't even get to learn and enjoy the game for a bit when they just get absolutely destroyed by these over powered decks, without any counter play.
I really like hearthstone as a game, and I think its definetly still one of the best card games due to the community and the quality. But the content update for this game is already slow, and the updates doesn't even change things much. The expansion bring tons off new ways to play the game, but it just gets overshadowed by the old meta decks, sometimes even giving them more power without changing the way the deck plays. The whole situation is really frustrating, and I hope they will fix it. I don't even care about control metas or aggro metas. As long as there isn't a deck that just dominates every other deck, there should be room for fun and innovation.
For now I will probably just stop playing and watch if the top players can figure out decks that actually beats warlock without auto losing to every aggro deck, or maybe blizzard would make some changes? Otherwise I'm gonna have to wait until the next expansion, or maybe next year when the cards rotate out to have fun again.
Just netdeck a popular aggro pala list and you'll be okay. Or check out my deck. It has 60% winrate against both cubelock and paladin but spiteful deck give it some trouble.
basically draw your entire deck, resummon velen, radiant, and sometimes thalnos, copy radiant and velen, otk for over 40 damage with double mind blast.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
I know that feeling, had a little bit of dust so wanted to mess with burgle rogue. That was my mistake I go for 19 rank 4 stars struggling as hell, then aaaaaaall the way down to 20 and the ride never ends. Not like burgle is best deck ever, but I beat aggro most of the time and beat otk decks likewise. Only the cubelocks seems to be the problem. And I have like 60% of them as my enemies (just quick estimation). This is frustrating, even with this fun deck
I was having real fun with the variety in the lower ranks and I grinded so fast so I figured I might just go for legend. now currently stuck between rank 3 and 4 limbo facing the exact same clone decks over and over and over. I almost nutted when I saw a hadronox druid.
It feels like the meta is settling reaally fast like it did in knights of the frozen throne, only even worse.

Imo burgle rogue isnt good enough to be competitive. I tried playing it in ranked standard and wild and barely had any success, it doesn't have an identity or win condition and too rng reliant. Its really fun but not good enough in the current meta imo

The win condition is to use RNG as much as possible and hope you get something that can finish the game ;)
I wish Ethereal Peddler was still in Standard, but with Pick Pocket that could be really dangerous.

The wild version that Dane hearthstone plays is probably my favorite deck I have ever played from any expansion. You should check it out:

Well,
When the decks that continue to be strong happen to be dudepally, cubelock, and spiteful (the same archetypes that were strong before) nothing really changes. Interestingly, I never saw much spiteful druid before but the deck literally plays a total of 2 new cards.
We got some interesting new archetypes with crow mage, shudderwock shaman, and burgle rogue but they seem to be relegated to meme decks, with crow mage having at least a bit of success.
I feel you, im having a blast playing hadronox druid but i get overwhelmed by odd and even paladim which are unfavored matchup. Im gonna switch to control priest to shit on them, wish me luck to push throught rank 3

I think kripp's latest youtube video hits the nail on the head really, shudderwock isn't the problem at all, it's cubelock/paladin decks that are head and shoulders above anything else right now, yesterday kripp was facing 70% cubelocks from rank 3 onwards and that's just not ok. lol

Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.
The current meta is very much still developing. The decks you are seeing right now will look like a joke after a month's time. It's normal in the first week to see decks that worked before with small changes made to them like aggro paladin and aggro hunter.
Play Control Warlock, it isn’t as cancerous as cubelock, it’s great fun to play cause you have to actually use your brain, not just curve out minions, and it can easily destroy both cubelocks and aggro if you pilot it well.
I slapped together a Zoolock after Witchwood opened and reached rank 10. It totally slaughters Shudder Shamans and does really well against Paladins, especially after you pull the demon that burns everyone for 1 damage at the end of the turn. Have heart!!

Exactly. Out of my last 20 games 16 happened to be either Dude Paladin, Secret Paladin, Spiteful Priest or Tempo Rogue. Mind you, that was me running powerhorses such as Quest Paladin in Casual mode, not Ranked. It's almost as if the rotation never happened and everyone keeps trying to counter Cubelock (or the obnoxious OTK Shaman) by going full Aggro. Of course, this is not much of a surprise, since some of those were T1 before the release of Witchwood and why should people use a presumably weaker deck? Still, it's somewhat disappointing.

I know, my burgle is based on good and efficient trades and getting infinite value from weapon. I easily deal with vex crow mages, I can deal with aggro decks most of the time and also I can set a competition to some of control decks (it's rank 20, so it's possible XD), but all I meet is otk shammy and cubelocks, mostly them. I nearly cried out of my luck when lost to cube/gunspire warrior instead of another clone deck

there's an otk combo priest that should do okay vs cubelock. i saw it on reddit yesterday and have been playing with it.

Why u hav to be mad? is only card gaem.
Play big spell mage, too much healing and aoe for aggro to handle and out values cubelock since they lost nzoth.

We're not even a week into the expansion; at least give the meta some time to settle.
