As someone that crafted the card and the Deck if you're low on dust or want to play a truly competitive Deck then don't do it.... The card is a slow AOE bait in Control MUs and just a win more card against Aggro/Tempo,not to mention 9 mana has always been such an awkward cost and this card has to compete with Alex and the DK which are better plays 90% of the time.... That being said if you have spare dust I'd do it cause I find Big Spell Mage really fun to play (and I'm a sucker for Dragons so I had to craft this card),also it's almost certain the Deck will get further support in the next expansions and there always Wild where you can play Non-Exodia Quest Mage featuring Alanna,ET and Drakkari Enchanter for a glorious 33 damage cap that needs to go through taunts! Perfect counter to Cubelock....
Depends on if you're going for the competitive scene or just good old-fashioned fun. I crafted Alanna and she's really fun when I can pull her off. I personally love the Casino Mage variant that runs Deck of Wonders (so much worth it for the fun, imo).
I pulled her from an early pack and have been playing her a fair bit lately. To be honest, she's fine if you already have her and want some late game threat - but she's reaalllly susceptible to AoE clears and is super-expensive, so I wouldn't recomment crafting her, like, at all!
The big-spell deck does pretty well. I'm running a good version of it curerntly.
However, like most late-game attrition decks, it really struggles with the early aggro game with all the brainless noobs playing Aggro Paladin and Murloc paladin right now. So, until those kids learn how to play a decent deck, it's probably still going to struggle in the aggr- I mean, meta.
For the most part, minions costing more than 5-mana which don't impact the board when played won't see any play on ladder. HSReplays posts a list of the 100 most-played cards in each format - prior to K&C, Standard only had one minion on the list (Aya Blackpaw), while Wild had two (Emperor Thaurissan and Sylvanas Windrunner.) Post-K&C, there are a few minions that violate the rule which see play, but they are meant to be "cheated" onto the board, rather than being hard-casted - so they don't really violate the rule. Alanna basically reads, "spend 9-mana, and you might win next turn provided your opponent doesn't have any answers, or doesn't have lethal." For 9-mana a minion has to prevent the opponent from winning when you pass the turn.
Big Spell Mage is fun but not competitive. The Tech for the deck is extremely polarizing. You can make the deck totally crush aggo but it'll bomb against control or you could make it really damn good vs control and totally bomb against aggro. There's not much consistent grey area. Playing her is pretty much a game winner though. I think of all the times I've dropped her she's only been wiped once or twice. The deck itself can put out enough stuff to force removals. That said the deck straight up wins without her a lot.
I am working on a meme deck that just copies her 3 times so when you play her the opponent better have 3 consecutive total board wipes or they're toast. But it's a meme deck lol
I crafted and get rank 5 with big spell mage, she is one of your win conditions, I use DK Jaina and Medivh for the 2 others.
The rest of the deck must have cards vs aggro or you will lose vs everything.
The weakness? Cube warlock, even if you put x2 Polymorph the deck is a very bad match for you.
Razakus Priest you need to gain a lot of armor with the 1 mana elemental to have a chance.
Vs aggro and tempo the deck is good, the 5 mana mass removal give a minimum 4 damage in all + x2 Doomsayer can deal with all of them.
I cut Jaina and Medivh for anti aggro tech. As such my current iteration WRECKS aggro really hard. I gave up trying to tech for warlocks. You just have to have a lot of burn at the right time and even then its not a fair matchup

In a non control match up when you still have iceblock(yeah i run 1 iceblock in my big spell deck) , drop her and next turn alex for a 1-2 KO from full health most of the time. Vs control this doesnt ussually work because they all run zillion clear now.
This deck is decent atm but having worst matchup in two most popular deck at the moment make the deck tier 3, even though it is strong and fun to play.
It's like Cairne Bloodhoof - nice to have and use it, but honestly I wouldn't craft it. At least now.
Pulled her from a pack and she seems nice, might see real play after rotation, but atm she's a little bit too slow, as you need to have a safe turn late game to set up for some strong punch. Strong AoE's and stalling mechanisms are a bummer and it's kinda bad vs Cubelock and Razakus Priest atm.

It's not great. Jaina, Alex, and Medivh are better finisher cards in a control mage deck.

She is worth playing if you have her as she is generally an above average card that sees constructed play.
In terms of whether or not she is worth crafting, I would say no unless you have a huge dust reserve!
Edit: It is viable in the tournament scene but for ladder climbing probably aggro mage is better.
