What keeps me in the game? Simply put, I'm atrociously terrible at giving things up. Once I get into even a slight habit, it's very difficult for me to stop entirely. I've barely played this game for a long time now, but I keep coming back just to do the busywork of quests and brawls and the PvE stuff. There are several other games where this is the case as well. It's horrible, but that's apparently how my brain works. I must be waiting for some golden age to dawn in which this game is actually fun and well-designed or something.
I have fun. I don’t understand the people who come to these forums complaining how much they hate the game and how it’s poorly designed. If I felt that way I would leave at least until a new expansion drops and see if that interests me.
the only thing keeping me is that I have spend some money on the game. I made legend, I did 12 arena wins. I'd rather not play anymore but the fact that I spend some money...
anyway now I just do the quests, get to rank 5 and hoard gold.
I've shifted away from laddering to playing fun decks - some my own, some netdecks, and I like it a lot more, but if you're really not enjoying it, can't you say 'money well spent, so long...' ? What's the point of playing a game if you're not enjoying it?
Literally the only deck I play is Howlfiend Treachery Warlock. There’s just nothing that tops discarding your opponent’s hand, except for maybe Togglewoggle Druid but I disenchanted all Wild cards.
Hearthstone can be super fun for around 2 weeks after an expansion when the meta is still evolving. This expansion was the worst in this regard for me since the oppressive decks carried over. The nerf has smoothed things over a bit... but spoiled the initial meta discovery a bit. It becomes a pure grind after this period - for the most part.
Overall I am fairly happy with the general power level of everything after this nerf, but Team 5 needs to make a big focus on interactive cards between the different archetypes. I like how many different branching choices some classes have, but the win rates need to be improved through tech card options.

In wild you can also burn his whole deck in one turn. 5 mana 8/8 + treachery and he will discard 3 cards from deck for every card you play :D
Homebrew (but not wacky) decks, possibly tied to some theme (eg Even Shaman with Murloc core becomes Ice Fishing Shaman and building and playing it is more involving than a bare Even Shaman).
Mobile playing also helps a lot, as i would never turn on my pc for a few games every day, while mobile is always ready access.
Honestly just the fun decks that I either think about from time to time or that I see on twitter. I've never been addicted to this game (Well maybe like the first 1-2 weeks), so it all comes down to how much fun I'm having but I also like to win, what I mean is that I usually don't go full blown thrash tier memes, but stuff that seems fun to me, fun is subjective... Atm something like Devilsaur druid seems pretty fun and that's what I'm playing i.e.
Some days I don't feel like playing, so I don't and some others I feel supper try hard, so I grind like my life depended on it.
All the moaning of people here is crazy. Would be worthwhile taking a long hard look at the self-destructive behavior of engaging with something you're claiming to dislike...... like hating baked beans but stuffing them down your neck and engaging with people on baked bean forums..... totally west behavior.
I enjoy playing card games, I like the process as a whole. Thinking about cards and how they fit with others, thinking about objectives of decks, win conditions etc... Playing against others who enjoy and appreciate the game and good plays etc. Essentially the same things I enjoy about other card games.

this is one of the funniest analogies I've ever seen dude hahaha
1. Don't play too much. Every competitive multiplayer game has something that's gonna grind your gears, be it lag, rng, bad teammates, toxic players, OP tactics/characters/decks... I cap it at 2hrs/day or take breaks to prevent burnout.
2. You accomplish nothing by hating on tier 1-2 decks or aggro, they will always exist in the game. Try playing them instead, I guarantee you'll still find some of them enjoyable once you get rid of your elitist mentality that you only play tier 3 or below decks. You should focus on finding happiness in playing decks you enjoy, instead of finding happiness in NOT playing against netdecks. They will not go away ever, no matter how hard you wish that to happen, just accept that fact and move on.
3. Unless you're going for high legend, there's plenty of decks that can climb the ladder that don't appear on meta lists. You just gotta be a bit creative and play well. This season I reached legend with big spell exodia mage, I don't think it appears on any meta lists. Really fun deck to play and there's always at least a dozen of them between standard and wild to keep me going back to HS.
I had like a HUGE break from Hearthstone some time since "Naxx" 'till "Old Gods" announcement so I missed out on almost all of the "GnG" and "Tournament" content, as well as three adventures. I was so hyped for the "Old Gods" expansion which I think is still one of the best in the list, that I returned into the game in spring of 2016 and started to donate. Later I got all the missing adventures and never really got off the game since. During Year of the Mammoth I was playing because I really liked the meta. It was very versatile and fun. I think that back then "RnG" and "skill" were really in the balance, and you could climb high up the ladder with a lot of fun decks. Now I don't like the meta so much, however I think that future expansions will make it much more interesting. For me the strongest asset of Hearthstone right now is its atmosphere. Witchwood , in my opinion, is one of the most atmospheric expansions. I really love Warcraft lore and I think that the Witchwood gives us a whole new chapter in the history of some of Warcraft's main characters, and it even brings new ones.

Mostly for combo, otk, and other meme decks. Though sometimes I'll dip into more 'mainstream' decks if I like them.
I can't imagine trying to find the game fun by playing the same decks everyone else is playing over, and over, and over again.

Nothing
Cause I have nothing to play for now, but I'm sure it will be my last year on this if it stay in it's current state.

The best thing in this game for me is collecting cards for the collection and making them work in the decks that are fun. Especially for F2P players.
The amount of money I’ve spent, probably.
I also like the game in general, anyway.
My self-hatred is what keeps me playing this game. Otherwise, I wouldn't play not even for all the money in the world.

The faint hope of a good expansion coming up.
