I was really damn hyped about Dragon Priest with the next expansion to have more a Dragon Tempo deck rather than the usual OTK Innerfire Dragon Priest. Now the main reason why i lost any faith in this archetyp is because of the new neutral card Dragonslayer, it´s literally the worst thing a Dragon lover could get, a 3 Mana 4/3 Battlecry: Destroy Cobalt Scalebane,Drakonid Operative, bonemare buffed Faerie Dragon, Hoarding Dragon and to finish off other Dragons like Ysera. Giving everyone such a powerful tech card without any drawback if it doesn´t get value with it´s Battlecry against a deck that probably wouldn´t even be Tier 1, seems really unfair to me. Meanwhile Keleseth Rogue and Jade Druid´s don´t have to worry about any tech cards.
What do u guys think? Will this archetyp be unplayable because of Dragonslayer?
Besides, Golakka Crawler didn't end Pirate decks, weapon removal didn't end Warrior or Rogue (nerfs did) and Mage is still going strong despite Eater of Secrets...
Nah, I seriously doubt. It's a pretty good tech card but nowhere nearly good enough to kill dragon decks. Only real reason to run it though is to hit the scalebanes in tempo decks so at the moment it only really has one specific target.

Unless I am playing againts Dragon Priest 6 times out of 10 I will never play Dragonslayer.... So there might be a chance I play it. But I doubt it will be the deciding factor in winning the game.
Looks like i overreacted really badly with this card! Sometimes it feels really satisfying being wrong. Thanks now i can go to sleep and being hyped for the expansion even more!
Tech cards never push an archetype out of the meta unless they are good cards by their own. In the event that Dragon Priest became a tier 0 deck, sure, everyone will tech dragonslayer. Eventually, people will avoid Dragon priest and play something else, thus making dragonslayer unplayable. Golakka crawler is an exception because it is cheap, it has ok stats, and it has a significant tribe tag that makes it useful in some deck [ e.g aggro druid]. So no, Dragon priest will be playable whether this card sees play or not.
It's a decently statted tech card. Dragon priest is going to be damn strong, even if someone is running 2 of these. I would only run the card if I see a lot of other decks playing Dragon (maybe a few Big Druid type decks) or just an absolute flood of Dragon Priest decks (like Jade Druid after KFT dropped).
Jeah it makes sense. Just tought because of the pretty good stats for 3 Mana and the insane Battlecry, dragons would be in a really bad shape... i mean a free fireball with a good body sounds pretty good on paper doesn´t it? Rogue´s will probably still run atleast 1 copy of it just to kill a Scalebane
It doesn't destroy all the dragons in the world. Any hard removal does a better job, because there are some pretty big dragons out there and this "Dragonslayer" came un-equipped to try and slay a Deathwing or Ysera.
It wont make it unpayable, but it will keep it in check, so it doesn't go rampage. This absolute strong techcard, was one of the needed techs.
Not like Eater of Secrets, it has playable stats without sacrificing much and will see play.
If there wasn't a good tech against dragons, dragon-highlander priest would be above tier 1with the strongest single- and multiremovals, the god-tier dk and super-stat dragons.
Currently i think they should release one or two more patches-level aggro cards or an neutral tech against all kinds of aoe. Priest has too many options. So this reduces at least one option.

Well it´s obviously not against Deathwing [/card] since he clears the board so 6 damage to him doesn´t make a big difference. Ysera doesn´t see much play anyways. It´s more likely to kill a on curve [card]Cobalt Scalebane for 3 Mana while leaving a 4/3 body on the board. Zoolock, Tempo Rogue and Tempo Priest usually play Cobalt Scalebane so it would do a pretty strong tempo turn.

True, even doe Priest is my most fav class i still feel bad about it how extremly strong this class got. Sadly it turnt into a cancerous Razakus and Big boy archetyp.
Well if you can run like 10 Dragonslayers then maybe... It's an extremely situational tech card, unless there are like 4-5 top tier decks that are completely based around dragons and that will never happen. This cards is like eater of secrets, and that sees amost no play in the current meta, it's amazing against one deck in the whole meta that isn't even a high tier deck. Even against dragon priest is not that good, the deckwill run something like: 2xDuskbearer, 2x Twilight Drakes, 2x Drakonoid Operatives and then maybe stuff like 2x Primordial Drake and even Ysera as well as the 2 dragons you get from the Historians, with all the good new cards priest got it seems like the archetype will go more towards the way of a midrange and an maybe even control-ish deck and not so much the current state of get something with high health, inner fire and then just punch face with a big truck.
I think in a way you answered your own question in the original post. If the opponent plays two of the Dragonslayers, they would have multiple targets to try and take down with these cards. And on top of that they'd need to draw a Dragonslayer before they could use it.
So if they waste them early on the smaller dragons, they can't use them to combat the bigger guys. If they wait to use them on larger dragons, or buffed dragons, they may fall behind in the game, depending on what else they have to play. If they do use against Cobalt Scalebane or another mid-high cost dragon, you can Bonemare other dragons. You can even Bonemare dragons like Drakonid Operative, which means your opponent would have to use both of their Dragonslayers on one target. High health dragons like Ysera would require both in hand to remove it quickly. While playing two minions for a total of 6 mana to remove Ysera is probably a strong play to avoid your opponent getting too many of Ysera's dream cards, ultimately it means they used both to remove one dragon. Then the 2 4/3 bodies you get may need to trade into one Drakonid to remove it. But that's only if the Dragon Priest can't trade or use a spell to remove the 2 4/3's before they can attack.
Even without the effect the 4/3 body for 3 is decent, so it may see play in a lot of decks anyway. But overall I think the frequency of Dragonslayer being added to decks depends on how many decks being played include dragons. Because if it is just a 3 mana 4/3 and you rarely get the effect off, it might be taking valuable space that could be occupied by something more reliable, or more powerful.
To add, because of the 4/3 stats, using this card to remove some of the early game dragons could actually provide you with a decent tempo swing if you can leave your opponent with nothing/very little, and it sticks on the board.
It's more of a safety valve like Eater of Secrets. Against other decks, it's a boat anchor. But if dragon priest is stronger than they guessed it would be, this keeps it from being Undertaker 2.0.

Naaah. People can't tech against everything.

Its purpose is more to target Scalebane in tempo decks.

It's a good card. Has the potential to profit. But who's going to hold onto it if they don't see a dragon? It'll be good for F2P and Arena.

As has been said by others. Tech cards like dragonslayer only see play if the archetype they target is really common. So by definition, no.
Although it may cause rogue decks to switch scalebanes to hydras (if another card doesn't fill the slot of cheap big mid game threat).

As long as there is some class balance it should be a rare occurrence.
