Come in and Warm your Frozen Boots by the Fire!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gunnolf, and I am originally from the Land Down Under a.k.a. Australia. I am an avid gamer that has acquired a real passion for card games, which originated from my humble beginnings as a Yu-Gi-Oh collector and eventually grew from my dabbling in Cardfight Vanguard and Buddyfight, until we reached the game we know as Hearthstone.

I've played Hearthstone since the days of classic, with multiple accounts on both EU and NA servers. Despite having reached the Rank of Legend and my own personal mentality of equating 'having fun' with 'winning', I am not really a fan of meta power-grinding & net-decking, not that there is anything wrong with that. Therefore, I enjoy thinking about new, cool and fun deck ideas that push boundaries while also allowing you to win and those are what I want to share with you guys every-time I post a decklist.

I have presently become a contributing writer to WILDHS and will be posting articles there on a semi-regular basis, regarding deck-archetypes the status of the meta as well as how to get the most fun out of this game even if you aren't a big spender. If any of this sounds interesting, then I highly recommend that you check out of the website, as the writers and the owner himself are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet with great in-game knowledge (link to be website can be found HERE). You can also follow me on Twitter for latest updates.

If you genuinely like my content and would like to see me produce more of it, then please consider supporting me on Patreon. This is by no means necessary but it will definitely help me out in the long run. Thanks for Reading ^^

Deck Introduction

This deck had me all a tingle when making it because it finally gave me a chance to make a ton of cards from The Grand Tournament viable. This is going to be a very long guide as I did go through multiple builds (which I will set out below) and in addition I have alternate card inclusions and Free-to-Play suggestions as well. It is worth noting that while only one card has been included from the BOOMSDAY Expansion, it is quite instrumental to the function of the deck, since it is a consistent draw engine something which the list lacked before. So without anymore ado I present to you my multiple takes on Even Paladin. I hope you enjoy the guide and the deck cause it was a hell of a lot of fun to make and play. ^^

Card Choices and Deck-building Explained

In this section, I will explain some of the card choices I opted for and the reasoning as to why they were included over potential counter-parts.

1) Argent Lance: This card strangely enough functions very well. It works somewhat like the rogue hero-power and allows you to sure up the early game. In addition, if paired with Ebon Dragonsmith it can function as a slightly more expensive Murkspark Eel.

2) Boneguard Lieutenant: One of the best cards in the deck by far that can lossely be compared to Totem Golem. Typically you want to play this on turn 3 so you can combine it with the hero power. It survives the upgraded rogue hero power, Murkspark Eel and Jade Claws.

3) Ebon Dragonsmith: One of the latest additions and subtle MVP of the deck since it allows for swing turns with Argent Lance and Silver Sword in particular.

4) Crystology: It may be a singular addition but it's an important one. Before Boomsday the deck seemed to lack a real solid form of card draw which is something this card offers, essentially ripping your 2 drops out of your deck so you can draw your mid and late game faster.

5) Silver Sword: Due to the lack of minion wide buff effects like Competitive Spirit, Avenge Level Up! & Quartermaster outside of the singular Sunkeeper Tarim, it was necessary to get creative and find more.

6) Rebuke: It's the critical Loatheb effect specifically for paladin. Played on the right turn against any class can stop their big swing turn and thus secure you the game.

(At the present time, only a few cards have been listed but I will include more if questions pop-up within the comments section regarding substitutions and why other cards were included.)

Alternate Deckbuilding (Multiple Win Conditions)

So while making this deck I went through multiple builds. While I firmly believe that the primary one has the most competitive prowess, the others list are nothing to be scoffed at.

Build No. 1 (Silver Hand Recruits)

This build at hand is slightly slower but it does pack a lot of additional value since we are running minions that generate multiple tokens that can be used in conjunction with Knife Juggler and other buff effects. It can go equally as wide as the original list but not quite as tall, at least not at the same speed. The alterations to the list are as follows:

-2x Haunted Creeper | +2x Drygulch Jailor
-2x Ebon Dragonsmith | +2x Lightfused Stegodon

Build No.2 (Corpsetaker)

Corpsetaker is a card that has always been on my radar and I frequently experiment with her in many an even deck. She was in the initial draft of the deck but I finally decided to cut her due to slight consistency issues. Subsequently I was able to fix those but I still favored the flood board centric mechanic above the rest. Now why should you run the Corpsetaker build over the rest? Well that's because it can go alot quicker alot faster than any of the aforementioned listed builds and can thus quite effectively beat out combo druid. Card substitutions are as follows:

-1x Shielded Minibot | +1x Crystalsmith Kangor
-2x Murloc Knight | +2x Blessing of Kings
-2x Ebon Dragonsmith | +2x Corpsetaker
-1x Justicar Trueheart | +1x Windfury Harpy
-1x Silver Sword | +1x Val'anyr

Alternate Card Inclusions

I am going to approach this section a little bit differently compared to my other deck guides, in so far as I will list specific substitutions for particular cards alongside their general relevance in the meta.

1) -1x Justicar Trueheart | +1x Valanyr or +1x Ragnaros the Firelord or +1x The Lich King or +1x Bonemare

Generally, this 6+ mana slot is reserved for a lategame option. Justicar Trueheart allows us to flood more in the lategame thus making cards like Sea Giant and Sunkeeper Tarim. However, the latter 4 cards allow us to go much taller and can potentially provide that finishing touch of damage.

2) -2x Boneguard Leiutenant or -2x Hydrologist | +2x Argent Watchman
-2x Annoy-o-Tron or -2x Haunted Creeper | +2x CLoackscale Chemist

The 2 drop slots in this deck are very rigid but The Grand Tournament gave us a lot of good cards that can be paired with a 1 cost hero power. One such card is Argent watchman that has stats almost comparable to that of totem golem so there is tremendous merit in including them in the primary list.

The other recommended substitution options are more so done in a F2P context. Cloakscale Chemist is mostly inferior to Annoy-o-Tron & Haunted Creeper due to the lack of taunt which is utilised to protect more important asset minions and the inability to create additional tokens.

3) -2x Piloted Shredder or -2x Murloc Knight | +2x Weaponized Pinata or +2x Enhance-o Mechano

The initial suggested 4 drop turned out to be a much better card than expected. It is decent in this paladin deck although as it does perform as well as it does in Shaman exclusively because it usually doesn't have as an aggressive start and thus requires constant board presence. The latter is wonderful as a buff card as long as it's followed up by something substantial as windfury and taunt can be rather lackluster at times if required to be used to clear the board.

4) it should be noted that while you can include the following 2 & 4 drops listed below. They were tested and while they weren't horrible, they didn't work well enough to merit inclusion whatsoever. But I thought I should mention them casually just for the sake of completion.

Tech Cards

This was important enough to be typed up as an independent section. It fulfills a similar function to the alternate card inclusion section except these cards serve a very specific purpose.

a) BURST ~ Gormok the Impaler & Armored Warhorse: You typically have 4 other minions in play and based on the joust winrate so far with this deck warhorse is not a terribly inclusion despite its inconsistency.

b) SILENCE ~ Spellbreaker & Eater of Secrets: I have already included one copy of Keeper of Uldaman to potentially deal with large taunts and threats but a secondary silence inclusion might be warranted. Also anti-secret tech is pretty decent since there are quite a few hunters out and about.

c) DRAW ~ Jeeves: In general, games never lasted long enough for me to require the additional draw but if it did, then Jeeves would be a fantastic inclusion in this deck. Not only can it draw for you but it also synergises with your other draw engine, namely Crystology.

I'll keep this section updated depending on the meta that arises each and every season. Until the next update, enjoy the current options! ;)

Mulligan Guide

The Guide for this deck is very very simple. The name of the game is keep your two drops. You need 2. if you have those then you can keep more expensive cards. Further than that though it is recognising combinations of cards that can win you the game depending on the match-up. Recommended combos to keep are as follows:

1) Haunted Creeper + Sea Giant.
2) Knife Juggler is a keep specifically against Paladin.
3) Rebuke & Sea Giant are keeps specifically against Druid.
4) Silver Sword + Ebon Dragonsmith is one of your must keep combos as well.

Generally, if you follow these specific rules as a starting point for when you play the deck then you'll do well. The rest is down to match-up and play experience.

Author's Notes

This deck took a lot of effort to get right but now that I did I am super happy with it. Evem though it's just one card, BOOMSDAY made a huge impact on the deck. Even if I am not running Jeeves, just the fact that you can draw him consistently is a huge plus so definitely do consider the alternate deckbuilding aspects and I hope you enjoy playing the deck as much as I enjoyed making it and writing out this guide. I am sorry I could not add more to this guide at this stage but I promise to update it regularly as the expansion goes on. ^^

I enjoy deck-building a multitude of interesting decks that are both entertaining and Legend viable (with some odd Free-to-Play lists mixed in). So if you like this deck (or anyone of my other ones) consider leaving a thumbs up, as it really helps in the long run! :)

Thank you guys for all your support and if you have any suggestions, let me know.
