Hearthstone has been out for 5 years now and I began to wonder about the favourites of the community. What expansion did you have the best experiences in and what was your deck of choice?
I personally loved Whispers of the Old Gods (Yogg will always be our champion). I started my Hearthstone adventure a few months before WoTG and when the expansion landed I was absolutely hooked. I loved the character art and the wacky interactions through RNG elements (which I hadn't had any experience on before). Hearthstone was so unique to me at the time.
I also have very fond memories of Anyfin Paladin. It was the most fun deck I have played to this day. That might be because I played it only to have fun and nothing else. Didn't care about winning at all. I just wanted to play some wacky murlocs.
KoFT was incredibly interesing; thematically, it was certainly the best expansion for me. The (last :( ) true adventure was there too - loved it.
Very unpopular opinion, but I also liked the flavor of Rasthakan’s Rumble. I am a big fan of background stories and I found it really cool. From the epic trailer to the awesome mechanics it tried to push (and hopefully they’ll work after the rotation), it was a very nice expansion i’d say. Not that impactful, but it will be - I can tell by now
Oh how I wish we could go back to the days of WotOGs! A much simpler time without infinite value generating DKs, exploding Cubes, and turn 6 3/9 deathrattle taunts or 5 attack chargers.
We just made giant minions, played Sylvanas and we liked it that way!
Interesting to see the votes. I loved Mean Streets but guess not a lot enjoyed that as much as I did. LOE was a very fun adventure as well, I guess that'd be my second fav overall.
Anyway for me it's a tossup between Naxxramas, Old Gods, and Kobolds and Catacombs. Naxx has a ridiculous rate of cards which still see play in Wild for the few it included, so I chose it based on that. Plus Loatheb is one of the only golden legendaries I crafted. Plus between Duplicate, Belchers and Deathlords I later played a fatigue mage when Echo of Medivh came out, which was a blast.
KoC was a solid all-around expansion (in terms of flavor, single player content and multiplayer meta), even if there were some power spikes. As for Old Gods, I still make Yogg decks, and unlike a lot of other people I get a good laugh out of Barnes, Y'shaarj => Y'shaarj. Even if it isn't me doing it, just because of how ridiculous it is when it works.
Edit: The more popular League of Explorers, Un'guro, and Frozen Throne are also great though.
League of Adventurers came at a time when love for the game was at an all time low with TGT being a piece of crap. League offered A LOT of relief in Reno and cards for slower decks along with having a very cool theme to get into. It was a spark of life in a dying campfire and, thus, will be loved by some.
Old Gods is the start of rotation and a new world for hearthstone. You really can't understand how the game changed between then and now. I don't think most of those who were there really REMEMBER how the game felt pre and post Old Gods.
If you ever see a post about how 'horrible' a meta is and someone goes "OMFG you forgot all about Undertaker/Patron/Secret/Miracle/ext", they'll probably love Old Gods
Lastly, Frozen Throne probably sits well with the newer crowd, lore fanatics, and the control lovers. It's the most impactful expansion we've had and the final nail on the coffin of true Aggro being a real thing. It also has links to the most loved periods of warcraft history for many people. I know I'm *VERY* glad that it's gone, but I'm actually glad it came as it was when it did. I think we gained a lot from the frozen throne expansion, even including the mistakes and learned lessons from it.
Given that, I probably SHOULD put Frozen throne as my favorite. But I'm an old foogy who goes "WTF Remember the Naxx meta!?" So Old Gods sits on the throne for me. That and it was the first time I moved from starving F2Per to established F2Per. It felt GOOD to open over 60 packs, then just casually go craft all of the old gods just because I wanted them, then try to make decks of all classes that revolved around each one, then all 4. It was also the first time blizzard had a clue about how to actually MAKE a 7+ CARD.
(SERIOUSLY GO LOOK AT THE 7+ MANA CARDS IN GvG. **LOOOOKK AT THEMM** and tell me how the 9#)$#)(% were we supposed to make a control deck!! #(*)$#*( go look at the legendaries! #$#_( the guys complaining about how 'bad' the cards are now, )
LOOK AT (#)$#)( Hemet Nesingwary THIS IS A LEGENDARY. ONE you could get for GvG! And get DUPLICATES OF HIM!!
Just IMAGINE buying a pack, seeing a golden aura, then *THAT THING* coming out! ANd we didn't KNOW about the pity timer (or it didn't exist) so for all you know this could be the ONLY legendary you are going to get! At least the Shark is interesting! At least you can USE Bwonsami to TRY to make a deck out of him! I'd take Harbinger CelestiaANY #()$)# DAY just for the comedy of her turning into a northshire cleric over THAT!
....yes I have issues. Card design was pretty crappy back in the day is all I'm saying.
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I LOVE The Boomsday Project. I'm a big sucker for the cheesy comic-book, 60's sci-fi aesthetic and theme it had. I'm also a big fan of robots and mechs in general, and this expansion stopped the drought that was going on at the time. Hopefully the rotation means the set will see more play.
It was also announced when I was in he middle of a very stressful bunch of exams, and provided some much needed levity.
I've been playing since Beta, and I gotta say to this day, my favorite is League of Explorers. The adventure experience itself wasn't the greatest, but the flavor was amazing. And this was the first set where Blizzard really doubled down on making fun and unique cards. I had the fondest memories playing during this time, and I wish Blizzard can replicate this experience in the future.
Knights of the Frozen Throne by far. Hero cards were the most interesting thing added in the game since the start. We loved and hated the Dks.
After Knights the best one for me was the Kobold patch. Weapon for everyone, it was a very cool idea, I was so hyped in knowing what would be the weapon for my character. After Kobold's patch only shit. A ton of shit, nothing new for 12 months a total decline of the game. Everything so bored, a total lazy cards design, a total garbage.
Knights and Kobod inserted in the game the most interesting and fresh things that the game had. We loved and hated these patch but at the end they were by far the best expansions we have ever had for me. For sure the ones more fresh that totally changed the game.
Started playing during the WotOG and still think that's the best expansion thus far - the theme and the cards to support this theme were just correct.

Witchwood. Reigned in power levels, great flavor, really fun single player content. The rush mechanic is a wonderful addition to the game and allowed for low costed aggressive trading without aggro enabling burst damage.
Also lots of fun cards, just great cards to build home brew decks around.

Started in beta but i am love WtOG too. N'zoth and C'thune decks my love. Second place - KoFT and DK cards.

Old Gods is the best expansion to date imo with a close second being Un'Goro

I like how Goblins vs Gnomes was noones favorite. Then it came back as Boomsday Project and it was still noones favorite.

Thinking you'll notice some trends with these:

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
Kobolds had too many powerful but fun cards to not give it the top spot, especially for a Rogue main...nothing is greater than Sonya.
If you thought you knew what you think I know, then you'd know I knew you knew I know.

I just loved knights. Flavourful, cool hero cards, freeze shaman. It was perfect.
Occasionally gives helpful advice.

for me no expansion was on the old gods level
i just love C'Thun so much
any time a new card releases and might have slight synergy with C'Thun decks (for example Emeriss or Shudderwock) i make the deck and play it on wild
Started playing during the WotOG and still think that's the best expansion thus far - the theme and the cards to support this theme were just correct.

yeah, there was freeze shaman. sure.
Rejoice, for even in death, you have become children of Thanos.

But whatever. If you want to have another thread I guess i'd say Old gods is my favorite with Naxx in a close second.
