I thought about this recently and, to my surprise, I found myself looking back most fondly on The Witchwood, with Blackrock Mountain and The Grand Tournament not far behind.
Perhaps its because it was the set that finally pushed burgle rogue properly (and it had already been my favourite deck since Karazhan), perhaps because I just really like the whole theme and how it was a low powered expansion so I never felt dirty playing with any of it. Even Genn and Baku make complete meme decks in the right classes.
But whatever. If you want to have another thread I guess i'd say Old gods is my favorite with Naxx in a close second.
No one is going to take the time to look through old threads to make sure their concept is unique. Plus, it opens up this question to people who maybe didn't see the first post before it became irrelevant.
I’m surprised more people didn’t choose Kara. Cards like Barnes & Prince Malchezaar were some of the most interesting & fun to play around with of any in the game in my opinion! Plus the music was cool too!! 😎 🍸

I agree with the music. The cinematic was poppin'.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have the most fun in MSoG.
I didn't play Pirate Warrior - I played midrange warr. And it was a lot of fun. I wouldn't have minded playing a Reno deck either. Yes, decks were pricey, but it was a ton of ton too, and to this day Reno and Jade are cool Wild deckbuilding mechanics that I will always appreciate.
Pirate Warr and Dragon Priest were both pretty nuts but at least Patches got nerfed.
I give my vote to TGT just because everybody hates on that expansion and I think it deserves some love - I actually did enjoy it a lot - this expansion was also introduced right with two premade deck brawl a week before the expansion went live.
Can't believe Frozen Throne on top. DK's are too OP. I haven't played as Jaina in years because I do not have her DK and without it she doesn't have a chance. It's like they Hoffed ragnaros because they thought he was to strong meanwhile a dk is something way worse because it's permanent once in dk mode you are on another level compared to your opponent. They should have had a tech for dk mode where if you get hit by it you are no longer a dk.
For me it was definitely Un'Goro. It was so well designed artwork wise, so colorfoul and fun, many great cards that are a staple to this day like Stonehill defender or Tar Creeper. Quests were great but sadly only two saw any realistic play which is soo little. And then probably Whispers. Great new mechanic with C'Thun, first time standard was introduced, big milestone in HS history.

Yes, normally you are correct but this thread was created literally one week ago. It would not even be considered a necro; the last post was just over 5 days ago. It's asking the same exact question, so people would still see it.
In terms of gameplay, the Witchwood. The Odd-Even mechanics were certainly interesting even if it grew into the monstrosity it is today, and Rush is a fantastic mechanic that'll be in the game for a long time.
In terms of flavor/story, Rastakhan's Rumble. I LOVE the backstory, the idea of teams fighting for glory in a tournament. It's what keeps me playing the Rumble Run even though I've completed it twice already.

Best standalone expansions by far are Ungoro, Frozen throne and Kobolds.
But the game overall was best before Gatgetzan. This expansion ruined the game, introduced "infinite ressource" as a legit archetype and forced everyone to play super polarized decks that either always win or always lose by turn 10. Midrange and Fatigue were slaughtered.
Old gods had everything. Balance, fun, skill counters (instead of card counters), 6 viable deck archetypes (smorc, tempo, midrange, combo, control, fatigue). Fatigue, smorc and midrange are now jokes, control gave up fatigue and merged with combo while midrange, tempo and smorc turned into even/odd aggro. So right now you either play combo, even/odd, or some weird unplayable shit. Feels great to have a full collection.
I'd have to agree, I think Witchwood gets a bad rep for Genn and Baku, as well as having a lower overall power-level compared to year of the Mammoth even with Genn and Baku, but if you ask me, the lower power level is a good thing, because now that we're losing the Mammoth cards, I think that lower power-level will result in more interesting decks and people actually using the archetypes Blizzard has pushed in each set that simply never saw play(looking at you Mech-Decks, Treant Druid, and Big Spell Paladin), which'll give classes and decks a greater sense of identity in my opinion, its why, even though Grand Tournament will always be my favorite, I will always respect the foundation that the Year of the Raven made for Year of the Dragon to build upon. (So don't screw it up Rise of Shadows, there's alot riding on you)
I started in June 2016, WoTG was already 2 months old. So maybe I'd say MSoG. I know, meta was toxic because of jade Druid and specially pirate Warrior, but I really liked the first hype for the reveals.and probably my all times favorite card, Kazakus, was there. Also I like a lot the flavor, 20's gangster and stuff like that. You can argue that KoFT had the best cards, but that's the problem, some of those cards were just too powerful (Guldan, rexxar, Jaina...) . Im not gonna miss any of those cards (also because I play in wild too, and I will continue see them)
The game was the best when there was only classic. There were no OP one-turn cards like C'Thun, N'Zoth, Bloodreaver Gul'dan and almost every other Death Knight and so on. IMO the problem since Old Gods has been that too many decks are based on a single powerful card that has a huge impact on the game like filling your board with good minions or something similar. Before Old Gods there were cards like Jaraxxus but it was slow. Dr Boom was OP but it didn't fill your entire board like N'Zoth. Grim Patron combo was op but it required multiple cards.
I liked the game when everything was so simple that even a vanilla Chillwind Yeti saw play. The pre-naxx meta wasn't boring it was funnier without the op cards. Of course there was miracle rogue but it was a little problem when compared to modern otk-combos like Mechathun Druid. My favorite expansion was Naxxramas, and it gave a lot for this game, although Undertaker decks were a little annoying. After naxx the game has become worse when we got Dr Boom and other stuff from GvG. TGT didn't give a lot for this game. LOE had some fun aspects but I didn't like Reno Jackson because the outcome of game was often dependent of one card. Reno wasn't as bad as C'Thun, N'Zoth etc. because it couldn't be used offensively, you can't kill your opponent with Reno.
Although I like Standard rotation as mechanic, I am disappointed in that most of the decks (except some aggro decks) have been based on a single, powerful, game-changing card. IMO Blizzard should release a Classic format where people could use only Classic cards and maybe some cards from Naxxramas.

I loved Naxxramas, League of Explorers, One Night in Karazhan and Blackrock Mountain, especially because of the flavor/theme surrounding it.

I was tempted to bring it up. Anyone who's old enough to love disco, or wierd enough to love things older than themselves, LOVE Kharazan.
Can't aggro on Barnes though. UGG!!!
Though I can see the rest who aren't big on disco loving Rumble instead.
One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Whispers of the Old Gods. Everything about it was awesome, best expansion ever!!! :D
I love witchwood, thanks to Hagatha, she is best!
