Yeah, I knew it. I predicted the cost decrease will be reduced to 2.
Well... the card is still useful, but unlike before it looks more like pre-nerfed Innervate for spells. I hope the devs give rogues more exciting and well-costed spells in the future, because we all agreed how Prep was limiting design space. Overcosted cards like WANTED! for example need a rework imho.
This also nerfs every other rogue spell that was balanced around prep such as WANTED!. Feels nice as a rogue player to have your whole set nerfed. I guess I'm not gonna be playing next expansion and probably ever.
At first glance this smells like the Wild Growth + Nourish treatment where they clearly went overboard with the nerfs. On the other hand, maybe they just wanted to nuke an evergreen deck (Miracle Rogue) as well... who knows. If the next expansion has some additional support for Deathrattle Rogue this archetype might have a comeback so that Valeera isn't bound to go Tempo all day every day.
This is a short-sighted nerf. The nerf is great to shape up the meta but it affects every single Rogue card that cost 4 or higher. Spells like Sprint and Vial and Wanted! will be worse than before since it relied on Prep to make decent. Of course, there are also a ton of spells in Wild that also got hurt by that nerf. It's a spell that needed a rework rather than a nerf like that because Blizzard designed spells with that in mind.
A bit harsh nerfing the classic set after already addressing the main problem combo card: Raiding Party. Are we seriously letting Waggle Pick through and punishing budget players? Prep was always very strong, I’ve considered it’s power level too. However, nerfing it ALONGSIDE Raiding Party is a mistake. Usual Blizzard nerfing a card somewhat reasonably, but doing it at the wrong time or in the wrong combination and butchering a meta deck.
This was bound to happen, team 5 have mentioned time and time again that Prep was one of the most design restricting cards in the game. Even if the Raiding Party nerf would have been enough now, Preperation would have caused a new problem down the line.
I agree with the nerfs of raiding party and miscreant, but I don't like the nerf to Preparation. Yes, prep is limiting design of rogue spell in particular, but the time to nerf it would be when a set is released that take that nerf into account. Now they just butchered rogue for, i m o, no good reason. Rogue probably needed a nerf, I just think the nerf to prep was pre-mature.
Nice nerf, made the card weaker but did not destroy it completely. And another good thing is that I have 3 regular and 2 golden versions of this card. Good dust.
Soft nerf on wild with Prep as well... Decks that use Oil are now substantially worse. The 2 mana Oil gets way harder to fit into turns after this. It also decreases the value of Sprint, Myra's, and a variety of control/combo decks. I think after a little this nerf will show through as one of the harshest ever dropped. Rogue is going to plummet with just this nerf alone in any format.
Discuss!

This change has been long overdue.

Would say the card is still relevant - luckly it didn't get nerfed too hard.
Problem is that the outcome of this nerf is bound to the design of spells in future expansions.
While most Rogue spells are now way worse.
Which is why i dislike this nerf.
It also makes worse the best counter to Big Priest in Wild, lol...
Old Prep was powerful, but this is a terribad nerf nonetheless.
i understand 1/5 nerf and raiding party, but not preparation

I expected the harsher nerf of making prep cost (1) instead of (0)
the nerf was kinda expected though and i'm curious how rogue spells turn out in the future
the rogue classic set got a huge nerf with this change alone though

I mean it's still a strong card that will see play, it's just the fact that every rogue spell ever printed (above 2 mana) is now substantially worse.
Using prep on Eviscerate and Sap? EleGiggle
Not sure you understand how Combo works.

I've tried cold showers and rubbing wasabi on it. But ever since i read the nerf news, my erection just refuse to go away.
