Because Mage has no Preparation and you need a great number of cheap buffs in your deck to feed the singleton Eidys, which is a terrible requirement.
This new Rogue spell just needs to be slapped in a Pirate deck with Preparation, which is no hard requirement for Rogue.
Granted, no meta breaker because of RNG, but plenty viable so far.
EDIT: "Rogues who choose Captain Hooktusk as their champion will find that she rarely goes anywhere without her loyal crew." This hints that at least one of the Rogue's legendaries should help with Pirate board presence.
I don't get why some people are saying this is overcosted, the cost is perfectly fine for me ...
Is conditional and random.
Mage have a spell not conditional for 1 mana more with the same effect this spell need 2 pirates and never see play.
Warlock have a conditional spell give 7 damage and recover 7 life for only 4 manas.
Yes, it is overcosted for the same reason all rogue spells in expansions are overcosted, Preparation, this card is a curse for rogue class.
This is not how you evaluate this card lol, the condition is potentially an upside here most of the time with just 2 pirates on board you already have enough value for the cost , 1 less mana is huge for such card, i dont know what you are talking about as always ...
Of course we need to see the rest of the set specially the new pirates for Rogue.

that hint combined with spirit totem( which said said to have a synergy with class leg) im hyped right now. the artwork looks very cool.dunno about even rogue but my already existing pirate rogue craves this.
it most certainly is. There is nothing here that specifically prevents spell damage from working. Tho, might be hard time to keep pirates and spell damage up to really use this for true value.

As I tried to explain, those random 3-damage missiles have proved to be pretty much useless with other cards. Eydis Darkbane is a solid 3-4 for 3 at least, but I have tried to set up combos with spare parts, and it was extremely disappointing! 4-health minions, divine shield minions, 1-1 minions, a face with plenty of armor... there are just far too many bad targets.
And it only does 1 missile for 6 mana if you have no pirates on the board, which is beyond terrible. It is only good when you are already winning.
Assuming you have a normal dagger equipped - Southsea Deckhand, Southsea Deckhand, Sharkfin Fan, Preparation, Attack, Cannon Barrage = 20 damage for 7 mana, and, fine, another 10 damage through double Cold Blood and Deadly Poison.
Because I love Rogue, please keep.

The best way to actually do something well is have no idea what you're doing. Then what you're doing will become what you have no idea you're doing, at which point since you're doing what you're doing without knowing what you're doing you're doing what you're doing without knowing you're doing it.

Time to craft Patches again
Good? Probably not, but some madman will put it in that old gangup patches deck in wild
Those who are given more in life, must not cling to it, but risk it all at every moment!
Uh oh...
well... this is bad
i meant to say even rouge but i literally lost to an odd rouge 5 mins before this comment so it was kinda stuck in my head
and i just ran with it XD but thx for telling me i did sound like an idiot...

Now Rogue just needs a weapon with spell damage to take over the ladder.
shuffle patches in deck + spell dmg = wild otk?
well at least a lot of hilarity will ensure :)
Cheeky gang up patches combo in wild?
That's Incredible!

Dumpstertier spell, even with Preparation.
