Granted, I have had Marin for all of about an hour now, but he seems to have very little practical use in the current meta. When placed in an aggro or tempo deck, the game is usually decided (if not flat out over) before Turn 8, and control is just too weak right now to want to play it.
The only top tier deck that seems like they could get use from him right now is Big Druid (cause, they REALLY needed another big threat to drop).
This makes me wonder if K&C may actually be the coveted control meta everyone dreams about (/sarcasm) ... or if it is just a very situational card that everyone now has.
Again, this is a very early first thought about the card after only about 6 games. Tried him a couple times in Murlocadin (even drew, and kept Crazed Alchemistand Marin, just to try to get the combo off), but both games ended in a concede before Turn 8. Similar results when tried in Tempo Rogue deck ... won one game early, and then lost another because I was trying to play control, just to drag the game out. And finally tried in a quickly tossed together Secret Mage deck that promptly got smashed by Token Druid.
Anyway ... anyone having any luck with him so far, and what are your thoughts if he is foreshadowing a slower meta?
He hasn't even been out a full day lol. People are still trying to figure Marin out, learning what to do with + against him. It's far too early to say with certainty what his effect will have on the game. It's especially early to be drawing up ideas as-to what a post-KnC release meta will look like.

All I know so far is I have been practically unable to play Marin because I get continuously abused by priest decks that only exist to get otks off Marin. Either they play the chest and kill me with it, or I try to play Marin at some point and they kill me with the one on their side.

I'm sorry to say that, that particular method is the most efficient way of using it. Why break the chest open when you can use it to break your opponent's face open! :3

marin might actually really broken in an inner fire priest deck because the chest has 8 hp and gains charge from potion of madness. Most decks dont even have a way to play around it killing it yourself either!
Marin do nerf N'Zoth, the Corruptor a bit though. To not be able to pull N'Zoth, the Corruptor spam in N'zoth fatigue warrior, or pray the treasure won't appear in quest priest kinda feel like a soft nerf to me.
By looking of some cards that actually good deathrattles or supports it (such as Carnivorous Cube), N'Zoth, the Corruptor might become like his brother, Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound to be part of meta staple in K&C. Marin as the soft nerf somehow supports this. But yea, still early to predict though.
A tip for anyone out there looking to "see what Marin does": play the Innkeeper. He's a complete pushover, and will happily yield the floor to your new shiny card.

Yeah, that is why I made a point to mention twice that it was a very early assessment of the card. My main thought was that it seemed "odd" that we were gifted an 8 mana card, in a meta that rarely sees Turn 8.
And honestly, I hadn't thought about the use if it with PoM / Inner Fire .... so now it seems the card has boosted at least two decks / classes that really didn't exactly need the help right now. :-)

It hasn't really broken it, just gave it an extra tool for a comeback. When people catch-on the meta will not be as prevalent.

If his fellow Blizzcon-buddy ETC is/was anything to go by, Marin doesn't necessarily exist to really have an impact on the game at all; he exists to be a neat and amusing experience.

He seems pretty decent in evolve shaman, you can run some crazed alchemists and moat lurkers in that to activate the chest and evolve transforms him into a 9 drop, deathseer transforms him into a 10 drop.
For the sake of argument, let's say that Marin does foreshadow a slower meta. I want a slower meta but what worries me is the soft pattern that would start to emerge. The last expansion in each year being slower? MSOG was last December and that gave us the slow and boring Jade Druid along with a slow and underwhelming hand buff mechanic. Let's not forget we also got one of the fastest aggro decks of all time in pirate warrior. Both pirate warrior and jade druid had to be nerfed at some point in the last year.
It is really hard for me to trust Blizzard right now. It seems to me that Blizzard might think they can do completely broken stuff with the final expansion of the year because it sees less time in standard than previous expansions. I was very underwhelmed with the Blizzcon cards and the recruit mechanic could get out of control very easily. It could lead to decks that go on autopilot like Jade Druid. That is certainly not what I want in a slower meta!

I don't think any Free Legendary is meant to be Good. It is Blizzard after all.
People are playing him for fun now, in a week's time he'll sit on the sidelines probably for months to come. He's a fun card, that's it. Oh, and the 'there will be only a control meta' thread is a bit premature considering we've seen about 5% of the set. You cannot possibly suggest that at any point ever because Patches exists, and for now, that's a good thing. Nobody wants a full control meta. People get bored when they have played 3 games and it takes 4 hours to play out, that gets old pretty fast. In Un'goro, everything was viable bar Warlock and Hunter, in this expansion everything is viable, even hunter in some small respects, I don't think they have ambitions to suddenly just make things only control when multiple archetypes are viable at the moment and that has been the theme for a while now.
This card is an 8 mana 6/6 that spawns a 0/8 enemy that is a must kill asap when it's dropped or you just put up a very good bonemare target. The reward can be nice, but creating a 8 health threat on the enemy side can spell destruction against certain classes. For now, it's ok. It also makes Spellbreaker or Ironbeak Owl better cards and more likely to be ran.

As a fan creation mod, I expect you to know better than this. This entire site runs on immediate judgments and sweeping generalizations. In the FIRST FIVE MINUTES of a card reveal, it is immediately judged as either broken or broken into dust. Logic, play testing, analysis all be damned.

So you tried to play a slow, control oriented card , in aggressive Tempo style decks?
/facepalm, I'm pretty sure Marin is not the problem. Your deck building skills and comprehension are.

He's a fun promo card, like ETC. he's not meant to be super competitive. I wouldn't read much into meta changing intentions from Blizzard off of him.
He's there for newb decks and Trolden meme moments.

C'thun is far more versatile. Giveaway much like Marin. Yet practically out of the meta.
Marin does not foreshadow anything. Just a wacky, situational card to promote the incoming theme.
Everybody is playing Marin out novelty, all alone. If he was released in the full set, he'd be deemed trash tier and forever forgotten.
It's cool and original, but we shouldn't give him more importance than he deserves...
