So I took a relatively long hiatus from playing Hearthstone after constantly being driven away from the murloc/aggro/multi identity class of paladin they kept pushing. The two murloc legendaries from Uldum specifically made me stop playing. I came back after seeing the Libram package they released and was excited to see what the Prime card would be. Lo and behold, it's another murloc....I'm not saying I'm going to leave again lol, but if they could take what myself and many others I saw comment our desire to restore the dignity and honor of the paladin class by using some of the characters from WoW instead of making another murloc (what even is a murloc), that'd be great thanks.
eh, just 1 of the uldum legendaries was a minion, and the other had nothing to do with murlocs, just the 1/1 reborn
I know, i know, lore wow, class identity, but what must of you miss is that paladin and murloc are the hearthstone touch, i personally like it, cause is a good parody, and i love how they adapt something so simple and vulgar as a murloc could be to the Paladin theme
Why are murlocs associated with the Paladin class anyway? Is there some sort of lore behind it?
it started after the Grand Tournament, with this guy
I would call ir, more the hearthstone mark more than a wow thing, nut thats what i love, and why the stoped calling "heroes of warcraft", because they arent exclusively warcraft lore but, they own version of it, and that is why this is a rusty legion instead of a burning legion, and why this the legendary murloc has sense to me.
Fair, but the murloc prime can be used in near every paladin deck.
I sincerely hope so. I'm planning like others building some kind of deck that combines the pure and libram archtypes. If I have to put the 1 mana murloc dude in for early game, so be it!
Fair, but the murloc prime can be used in near every paladin deck.
Theres barely any good murlocs
Its not so much about the Murlocs quallity rather than making a hard 2 deal with board.
I already imagine a Control QuestPally( something like this https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1334408-control-quest-paladin ), that uses the 3mana Weapon , just because Pally doesnt have a lot of reactive cards there. Also the Legendary is a nice heropower target.
I get that people are disappointed in the prime legendary not being the badass that he could have been. I would've liked to see some big control Prime legendary card that would help get control paladin back on track and actually feel like it's paladin related.
That said, I think this card will be very strong. It looks to me like one of those cards that looks kinda dull because it's a murloc, but the board you'll summon will on average be very scary and sticky. There's no need to play other murlocs in your deck for this card to be good.
Also, when you look at what us paladin players got last year.... I mean... The libram package looks very cool and I'm at least happy we got that. Their biggest mistake was to reveal the cards in the wrong order imo. If they revealed the 3 murloc cards first, and THEN the libram package, people wouldn't be ranting about this card as hard as they are now.
Why are murlocs associated with the Paladin class anyway? Is there some sort of lore behind it?
The paladin hero power summons 1/1s. And the Shaman hero power summons totems. So they just kinda decided murlocs fit that as flavour I guess.
If it were up to me there'd be no class murlocs at all. At least, none that aren't specific to being murlocs.
I think the Paladin Prime legendary looks like a good card, I don't care about Murloc paladin but it looks solid. Summoning 5 minions all with divine shield is pretty hard for anything to deal with. I can't believe the imprisoned demon is ALSO a murloc, though.
...having said all that, I'm super pumped about the Librams.
Paladin prime legendary objectively is strong card, can be played in any paladin deck.
subjectively is garbage, idk why i got my hopes up for some cool librams synergy lego...last year was garbage for paladin class, hoped for some change this time, but looks like we are going pure-otk-libram-murloc-dragon-everything archetypes again...back to playing hunter for another year.
Maraad and Maraad prime, push the pure Paladin theme. Maraad could be a midrange divine shield taunt and Maraad prime a finisher with the pure Paladin theme. That would have been my take.
The murloc is quite strong stand alone card even if the murlocs that he summons wouldn't be so great since he creates a board out of nothing all by himself, but flavor wise it's super bad.
I don't mind the Murlocs, but what bothers me the most is that the devs have no clear idea what archetypes they want to suooprt in this class. They throw like 10 different archetypes on Pally, but none of them get's enough support. Like last expansion:
Blizz: here are two cards for the new pure archetype. Have fun! And we throw in some random Mechs because of reasons.
Community: We are interested in this archetype but two cards are not enough to make it work!
Blizz: omg, no one plays Pure Palladin. I guess the archetype was not interesting enough. So let's make a new archetype. Here are 3 Libram cards, have fun. And we throw in some random Murlocs, because why not?

I had some thoughts about the Legendary Murgur Murgurgle and if he is your wincondition you probably wanna play a slightly more cycle heavy deck , maybe with Salhet's Pride etc.
And for the Librams... yeah as Trump already mentioned, the Aldor Attendant is by herself a little weak. The body is ok on curve (but also bad without taunt its useless lategame) . Also, same as with Frizz Kindleroost , the question is how much value do we get out of the card? Maybe we play all 6 but i have doubts, and is it worth it anyway ? Since there is no point in reducing Libram of Wisdom any further if we play Aldor Truthseeker already ( wich is the better card per mana imo). Anyway, i was hoping for another Libram spell to get more value out of the reducing cost batlecrys.
I think mech paladin fits reasonably well with the class identity of buffing up your army. Odd paladin in Wild is one of the most true "paladin" decks which were ever out there, with tonnes of buffs to "innocent" dudes and divine shield synergies.
Well, this is wild. We are mainly talking about standard I think. Murloc paladin in wild can a thing too, however, in standard, it is a mystery.
I am hopeful about librams though. Everyone is like 'Where are my pure paladin cards?', and there you are. They dont have to create more cards for pure paladin, they just have to create strong paladin cards. Think of this like highlander warrior/shaman. There are only two highlander cards but the decks are just fine. Would the pure paladin beat galakrond decks, yet another mystery.
What I would do at the moment is to unnerf Equality back to 2 mana, but that might be just me.
Blizz devs aren't even on here to see us complain.
Objectively, this is a very good Prime card. Early game it has solid stats, and if not silenced, it comes back as a late game board refill (which honestly isn't that hard to deal with, but it is slightly annoying). The fact that an early game minion can end up being a late game finisher if not silenced is itself really good.
The problem is that it's another fucking Murloc. And I think most people who play Paladin, including me, thought Murlocs were a nice one-off joke before they actually decided they liked it and started printing Murloc after Murloc after Murloc after Murloc.
The aesthetic of Murlocs is off, and while people claim "it fits because Murlocs swarm and Paladin identity is minion swarm," Murlocs are primal and feral Hunters who hunt in packs, while Paladin is about upholding law and order, discipline. They don't fit at all.
But that one Blizzard Dev is like "Murlocs in Paladin mrrglrglr hurdy hurdy hur hur." *Shakes fist*
I mean I get it, but who cares about lore? Clearly many but - are the cards fun? is the game fun and does it work? is it balanced? these should take emphasis imo
Agree with this. With Paladin still having these murloc, it feels like it hasn't changed for years. The team must focus on pure and libram paladin because it is new and has already the hyped going.
