Create three cards to highlight the three expansions of Teknician's Year of the Gryphon!
Card 1 -
Greetings from the Great Seas:
1)
Treasure
synergy i.e. Treasure cards that are at the bottom of your deck/bottom of deck interaction
2) Holiday, where an aura effect is applied to your hero on your next turn
Card 2 -
Blood of the Zandalari:
1)
Sacrifice
effects (explanation of keyword, choosing to destroy the minion if it can attack instead of attacking)
2) Enchantment related effects (keep enchantments, return to hand with enchantments etc.)
Card 3 -
Trouble at the Sunwell:
1)
Surge
effects: Bonus if played the turn it's added to your hand
2) If you spent all your Mana last turn, do something

General Competition Rules
These are the rules that remain consistent from competition to competition.
First, these are the rules about Posting:
You are allowed to submit
only one entry
. An entry normally consists of only
one
collectible card, plus any necessary additional material or commentary (explained below).
You are allowed to post in this Submission Topic
only once
, only to submit your one entry.
You may not delete ANY posts you make in this Submission Topic
, not even accidental ones you may make over your one allowed, such as by double-posting or by accidentally posting something here that you meant for the Discussion Topic. If you do accidentally post more than once, inform any of the Fan Creation Forum moderators via PM, and we will handle it.
Speaking of the Discussion Topic, that is where any discussion of this competition should go. This thread is for
submissions only
. If you want to discuss your card or ask questions about the competition rules or process, you can find a link to the Discussion Topic at the top of this thread. Plenty of folks there will be happy to help you out.
Once you have submitted your one entry, you are allowed to make
only minor changes
to it. Minor changes are things like correcting typos or making balance changes that do not alter the spirit of your entry as determined by we the moderators. If you want to make any changes and have any doubts as to their legality, ask us first.
These are the rules about your Submission:
Accompanying the image of your card, you may offer some
minimal additional commentary
to explain its design, balance, and/or other qualities. Flavor text is also welcome.
You
may not
submit any Gold cards or animated cards. (It's just a cheap attention grab tactic that makes it unnecessarily difficult to determine what class your card is for.)
Your entry must be a card of
your own creation
. We've been doing this for a while, so if you blatantly rip off somebody else's idea, we will know.
Remember that, although HearthCards is awesome,
you MUST host your card somewhere other than Hearthcards.
Save it and upload it to
Imgur
,
Photobucket
, or some other similar site. HearthCards has a limited server space and will purge cards after a few days, and nobody wants your card disappearing part-way through the finals. We understand that there are some HearthCards memberships that will allow you to save your card there for longer (and you should totally get one of those just for general fan creation purposes, by the way), but we don't know who has those memberships and we can't tell from the URLs.
When you post your Imgur link,
make sure it's the actual image and not the hosting page!
You need to right-click and open the image in a new window/tab first; the link should have an "i" in front of it, "i.imgur.XXXX". HearthPwn won't be able to direct-post your card, otherwise.
Fun and even humorous entries are perfectly allowed, but "troll" entries will be disqualified. If you're worried that your card may be misinterpreted as a troll card, contact a moderator before you submit. Emote-related cards will be considered a troll entry.
We reserve the right to classify cards as "troll" entries as we deem necessary, even if the reasoning is
not
explicitly stated in the rules.
A Note on Group Submissions: if you team up with other people to submit an entry, you must enclose that information in your submission and
none
of you may upvote that entry.
That would be considered an unfair advantage and we will treat it as vote-manipulation. You are technically voting for yourself, and that is not allowed. Failing to tell us you're in a group is also against the rules, as we'll have no choice but to assume that you withheld the information to ghost-vote your group's submission.
TIP:
Though not a rule exactly, we
highly
recommend that you insert your images using this icon on the bar above the post text editor:
. Just click that button and put in the URL of your image. Cards that are uploaded and attached to your post are not disallowed, but in our experience they will not do nearly as well, so this is for your own benefit more than anything.
Finally, know that manipulating votes in any way is strictly forbidden. Any violators will receive an official warning, and will be banned from this and all future HearthPwn Card Design Competitions.
Competition Process
Preview Phase
(Starts Now! Ends 21:00 UTC
31/1/19
During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme.
Entry and Early Voting Phase
(Starts 21:00 UTC
31/1/19
, Ends 21:00 UTC
4/2/19
)
During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like!
Voting Phase
(Starts 21:00 UTC
4/2/19
, Ends 21:00 UTC
5/2/19
)
During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites!
Final Phase
(Starts 21:00 UTC
5/2/19
, Ends 21:00 UTC
6/2/19
)
During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
How do we determine the qualifying finalists? First, we'll pull up-vote data from each submission using the formula detailed below:
(
ab
) / (
c
) =
x
Where,
a
= The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission.
b
= The total number of up-votes that the submission received.
c
= The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission.
x
= The submission's final score.
The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.
The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.
But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a
Wild Card
, which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun.
(Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)
Rewards
Bragging rights are always awesome, but as usual, we do offer a couple of HearthPwn site rewards to competition winners:
Their card forever immortalized in our
Winners' Gallery
!
They will be allowed to select the next card design competition theme.
And a unique
Avatar Border
& "
Card Design Champion
" Title, as depicted below!

Death's Gold
- With
Gadgetzan Auctioneer
being rotated to
Hall of Fame
in the
Year of the Gryphon
, the balance of this card will be kept in check in Standard format. But I would definitely love to try it with Auctioneer in Wild format with my favourite
Mil Rogue
deck since
Beach Time
also provides more additional card draw.
Noble Defender
- A simple 1-drop that refers back to the first thing that came up in my mind when I saw the new keyword,
Sacrifice.
Might see some interesting mind games as your opponents can choose whether they want to interact with it or not. You see, not all
Sacrifice
had to be
bloody
, right? [
Noble Sacrifice
]
Storm Surge
- This card serves as a powerful, but unpredictable board clear that will be appreciated in many desperate situations. Well if you don't need to summon the lightning this turn, you can always shuffle it back to your deck and save the thunderclouds for later. Also, this card might singlehandedly open up a new archetype
Mil Shaman.
A decent card to discover from
Haunting Visions
as well since
Surge
will always activate if you play it on the turn it was added into your hand (including
Discover
).
Daughter of the Sea is intended to fit into the Big Beast Odd Mage theme of the first expansion. Build a big beast deck to gain massive value or just play an Abyssal Subjucator from the expansion and ping your opponent to death with a spell discount or a Coin. Also of note that this can also steal valueble Beasts from opponent like, say, a
King Krush
Zandalar Devotee is intended for you to be able to be able to both activate the Sacrifice and retain the Sacrifice minion on the board. Also of noted that the opponent can also use the Sacrifice effects, so be careful and strategic when you use this minion.
Fickle Intellect is a more powerful but conditional
Arcane Intellect
with an added benefit that you can use this offensively to mill your opponent.
Dead Man's Skull
changes your Hero Power to
Eternal Servitude
as long as it is equiped, so weapon removal screws you. It was initially a spell, but it would've been broken with
Shadow Visions
.
Rezan's Disciple
is a pretty simple enchantement-related effect. It's so simple I'm surprised this card doesn't exist in the game already.
Sunwell Renewer
gives you a second chance to use Surge effects you drew too early. She can also act like a mini
Possibility Seeker
, but you need a lot of Surge cards to use the card like that.
Rasputraza
:
So if you play Rasputraza the same turn it is added to your hand and you are holding a Dragon it gains three of these keywords: Taunt, Divine Shield, Stealth, Lifesteal, Windfury, Charge or Rush (but not both), Poisonous, The idea is that he is leveling up because reading a book to learn these skills.
Tao the Stormdragon:
One of Shaman's original keywords was windfury. So I thought it would be nice to bring that back in the form of
V-07-TR-0N
Mega-Windfury. Every time it attacks it can choose to actually attack or to bring it back to your hand.
Finx Firebreath:
This is actually a Dragon trying to protect the treasure, it must defend of all these Loot Hoarders from taking it.
My entries (my cards from the 3 expansions in a chronological order):
As it stands above, the cards highlight different thematics or/and keywords from Teknician's Year of the Gryphon.
Gadgetzan Holiday
- In Teknician's expansion Rogue is marked as the coin class, so I decided to give it some support (and I also enhanced miracle rogue in wild cuz' of the rotation of
Gadgetzan Auctioneer
). Since we are professional assassins, people want to hire us for our services and for every target we kill we get rewarded. And if you remember MSoG, we know that the biggest and most wanted criminals live in that city.
Flavour text - Normally people here would pay you with Counterfeit Coins, but seeing how cold-bloodedly you stab others with that dagger, they decided to treat you like a VIP.
G'Huun's Devotee
- This is how
G'Huun
looks like in the Blood of the Zandalari expansion. I wanted to make a card, that depicts Ritualists sacrificing their own life, in order to summon an ancient monstrosity. If you wonder how people will get two Devotees on the board - well, there are cards like
Faceless Manipulator
or others like
Serrated Tooth
,
Rocket Boots
,
Houndmaster Shaw
that allow minions with sacrifice to trigger their effects immediately.
Flavour text - Damn, I forgot how the ritual chant goes. Uhm... ARISE, MEGA ULTRA WORM.
Well-Fed
Orc
- I wanted to make a flavourful minion around the "If you spent all your Mana last turn" effect and something with positioning conditions. I purposely gave it weak stats, because I feared its power in Even decks. Don't forget that the word "enemies" includes heroes as well, so this could be either used to deal 4 damage to 1 or 2 minions (taunts) or to injure the opponent 's face (
Nightblade
). Due to this flexibility I had to make it fairer (+ we all know how easily even decks use all of their mana in one turn due to their 1-cost hero powers).
Flavour text - Trust me, you don't want to stay near him when he eats. His burp is worse than his bite.
[edit] Big thanks to Wailor and to Thezzy for giving me their feedback on my cards.
Mad Chest of Yogg'Saron
: That's like twice stronger
Twisting Nether
. Not only removes your opponent's big threats, but also give them to you.
Refreshing
Disciple
: This guy has ability to refresh his health, but also can easily activate 'Whenever a minion dies' effects.
Mana
Melter
: And that's just a simple minion, which can provide realy good tempo if played on turn 2. Especially strong in Even decks, or in Elemental ones.
This is the Submission Topic. The Discussion Topic is here .
