Hey, I just recently hit rank 5 for the first time after roughly a year of casual rank climbing. I decided with the release of Un'gzoro that I'd try to reach legend for a change so am currently on the grind. I hit 5 a few days ago playing with sJow's Quest Warrior and enjoyed using the deck a good amount, however grinding from 5-1 has been tough and I've gotten a little tired of Warrior for the moment.
I've seen some pretty cool midrange/control Paladin decks that I'd like to try out and seem like they'd be good for reaching legend with. Mainly I was looking at Savjz's Lost In The Jungle deck-
For both I would need to craft Sunkeeper Tarim and Wickerflame Burnbristle. For Savjz's I would also need a Lay on Hands, a Lightfused Stegodon, and a Vinecleaver. For Boomtjalah's deck I would also need a second Doomsayer, a second Twilight Drake, and a second Spikeridged Steed. Most of these crafts are pretty safe crafts in my opinion that I wouldn't regret and would use in other decks as well. I have a few legends that I doubt I'll ever use and should be able to scrounge enough dust for whatever I need.
I prefer not to netdeck normally but since I'll be investing a good amount of dust if someone could give me some advice on how to start my deck out that would be great. I'll probably end up editing as I go.
Not a frequent poster or professional by any means, but my input is to honestly not spend that much dust on the class right now. Paladin is alright, but I can safely say having ground up from rank 20 to 5 myself with various forms of mid-range/controlish Paladin that it's not in a good spot at the moment. It's not in a BAD spot but the amount of effort you have to put into every single match is beyond ludicrous. The decks aren't greedy enough to reliably overcome stuff like quest warrior, miracle rogue, or the various mages out there while at the same time you need a flawless draw to hold the line properly against aggro. You can do it, certainly. But you're going to spend a lot of time trying to climb what I personally consider a nearly vertical wall.
THAT ALL SAID; it's honestly up to you here. The second deck's cards you'd need to craft are a bit more universal to other standard paladin decks you could make.
You can get by without wickerflame burnbristle.. A good card for sure, but you can make a good midrange deck without him..
The new un goro legendary is pretty effective in the deck.. Would be a lot harder to replace him... But honestly, if you have tirion and rag, lightlord.. You can make a good midrange deck
I'm also just now noticing that both decks you listed are currently on the front page of hearthpwn.. You might want to research the archtype a little bit deeper than that..

I've watched Savjz's stream for awhile so knew about his deck before it was even posted to HearthPwn. All decks are eventually posed here so you could make that case for any deck I choose. Also I've done plenty of research on the archetype. Only reason I'm asking is because I'd like a second opinion before I nuke my dust
If you want to play Paladin for a while, I'd say Sunkeeper Tarim is safe to craft. He's incredibly useful in a lot of situations. Don't craft Wickerflame Burnbristle. He's certainly nice, but he's not nearly the same utility as Tarim. Boom's deck is probably easier to pilot than Savjz's deck. But yeah, like another person here said, every game as Paladin is a deep thinking game where you cannot afford to make mistakes. It's really tricky climbing, but if you're up to the challenge, go for it! And sometimes, you will just not get the draws and you'll have no recourse. It happens and it stinks, but there isn't much you can do about it when the aggro deck you're playing against got all their best possible starting cards and you didn't.
I agree that wickerflame isn't necessary. Sunkeeper tarim is a must - he's esp. great against taunt warrior and pirate warrior. I'd recommend double hydrologist. I run double Dirty rat as it's useful in a tough matchup - quest rogue.
The deck uses murlocs to get an aggressive start, but it can still out value decks in the late game. It runs double Golaka Crawler to kill pirates in Warrior and Rogue and have more Curator synergy.
I made one change by swapping a copy of Spikeridged Steed for one copy of Acidic Swamp Ooze to have an even better matchup against Pirate Warrior.
There are few cards that i dont usually like on paladin, like Dirty Rat and Ivory Knight, because Control Paladin even tho is a control deck it work like a mid range one and can apply pressure on the opponent, while playing my Control Paladin to legend this season, i found Blessing of Kings being a real MVP, because a Turn 2 Doomsayer, Turn 3 Stonehill followed by a Blessing is GG, so while some cards can disrupt other decks combo like Dirty Rat against Exodia Mage, since i will not win that matchup anyway, since board freeze is the counter to paladin, i just rather focus on the matchups i can win, like i have a 90% Win rate against all warriors, so dont try to tech againt everyone but rather on the matchups u will win and increase your win rate and let those mages games go
I'm posting this on mobile so I won't quote everyone but thanks for all the advice. Also I can't figure out how to make the special card text when you highlight the card names so sorry lol.
I think I'll make a hybrid of Savjz's and Boom's. I'll go ahead and wait on Wickerflame and use a Doomsayer (and possibly craft a second one) instead of him. There's always the chance of discovering a Wicket from the Stonehill Guardian anyway.
I get that it's not the easiest to play but it seems strong in my match ups with it and I like paladin in general.
In regards to the Murloc deck, I think it's interesting but I don't have any Warleaders and while I know it's a great craft Id just prefer not to right now.
I think I'll disenchant my Clutchmother, The Voraxx, Inkmaster Solia, and a few rares/epics I won't need.

I can help you with that!
You need to make brackets around the card name. For example to write Spikeridged Steed, you need to put [ card ] in front of the name and [/ card ] after the card name.
So take the spaces out of the brackets of [ card ] Spikeridged Steed [/ card ] to get Spikeridged Steed.

I was actually thinking about replacing Ivory Knight in my own list after a lot of weak discovers yesterday. And BoK was my first thought. Looks like you already did the testing for me :) However I do run one Dirty rat for some midgame/lategame shenanigans. two seems overkill
Anyways I will post the list I used to reach legend yesterday
Midrange Paladin is a really fun deck to play, and it performs quite well on the ladder right now, but if you're new to the archetype you might need some practice since it's not one of the easiest decks out there. If you've played alot of Paladin before, then it will be much easier to master these new Paladin decks.
People pretty much have a skeleton list for Midrange Pally, the various choices just improve your matchup against certain matches. I couldn't find my exact list already on hearthpwn but I don't feel like spending time uploading that deck atm. Found one, it's basically StrifeCro's list with Vinecleaver instead of Lay On Hands because I rarely needed it in my climb, shits all over Quest Warrior, and also gives Tarim value. Also with a Primordial Drake instead of a second Golakka
Going 25-7 so far though still climbing to Rank 5. Mostly against Quest Warrior, Quest Rogue and sprinkles of other decks.
I'll just mention the notable inclusions / exclusions: 1 x Golakka Crawler – vs. Rogues and Quest Warriors 1 x Vinecleaver – vs. Quest Warrior. I've been facing a lot of them in my climb and my deck has a lot of techs for them. 1 x Primordial Drake – Equality combo. Curator value. 1 x Stampeding Kodo – Absolutely BRUTAL against Quest Warrior, and otherwise a lot of good procs against other decks. Lots of 2-Attack minions this meta. I don't think I've ever lost a game to Quest Warrior in my climb. I Kodo their Alleys and Braves, I flood the board to absorb DIE INSECT. 2 x Stonehill Defender – Pally legends most of the time, very useful choices other times. Helps staunch the flow against aggro if you draw badly. 2 x Spikeridged Steed – Saved me a BUNCH of games. Basically heals you for 12 health.
Notable exclusions: No Lost in the Jungle – Don't see the value in a deck like this. Dead late game draw. Wild Pyromancer – I have the later game Primordial Drake combo that leaves a body on the board instead of suiciding. Plus Tarim is enough extra board clear on top of Equality Consec. Wickerflame – Good against aggro. If I would remove a card, he'd be the first to get in. I just didn't find space for him. Maybe sub for Kodo.

Thanks, I know how to use the actual "Card" button but never bothered to remember the actual characters for it

Thanks for the detailed post. I was planning on adding a Stampeding Kodo for those same reasons. It can also be comboed with Aldor Peacekeeper to destroy a minion (although Aldor is normally good enough by himself). Not sure whether I'll run two or not, same with Spikeridged Steed, I'll just have to experiment.
It's pretty hard not to run Wild Pyromancer in a controlish paladin but what you say makes sense. I'll probably give it a try.
I'd suggest only a single copy of Spikeridged Steed. It's a powerful card, but pretty clunky at the same time. It costs 6 mana and you need to be ahead on board to get good use out of it. Replacing it with Kodo could be pretty good.
That's what I was thinking. I may run 2 Kodos but it seems a bit slow.
I made a thread asking about dusting advice and had multiple people say Lay on Hands is weak. I'm of a different opinion though. Is it worth dusting a bad Legendary for it? I'd like it a lot for heal/card draw against other Control matchups but not sure it's worth an unused Legend (I feel it is though)
