for announce ? or launch. i am lost Ö
Guys, I'm pretty freakin hyped to play this Shudderwock once the exp comes out ! As I thought about it, this card can really enable a consistent OTK (and if not, infinite damage and healing over time) deck, check it out if you're interested (a full guide is already made) :
Hope you like it as much as I do, i really believe this one will be viable out of all I've come up with in this expansion theorycrafting !
Primordial Drake is a really dangerous include, since you could have Shudderwock cast Saronite then wipe with Primordial before Grumble, preventing you from getting a copy back in hand.
Drake deals 2 damage to the 6/6 copy of shudderwock. Even if you play 2 of them, it deals 4 to it. i dont see why that would pose a problem.
Meta Tier List for Witchwood and Year of the Raven.
Tier 1
Shaman, Druid, Priest, Warlock.
Shaman: As seen in the live stream, dominated! It also seems to have the most potential with the most recently revealed class legendary, Shudderwock. Not to mention Hagatha.
Druid: Jades may have gone away, but here comes Hand Druid, throwing an 8/8 Mountain Giant down on turn 4, and if that isn't the case, an easily answered, but still scary 4 mana 7/7 Wispering Woods.
Priest: We'll still have cards unbeatable from past expansions, and whether it keeps the Spiteful Summoner archetype or the Lady in White becomes meta, I don't see priest going anywhere!
Warlock: It's just difficult for me, and more than likely everyone else, to see Warlock going until KoFT goes out of rotation. I don't see this expansion necessarily making the class stronger, but Bloodreaver Guldan will keep him Tier 1 until it dies! Lord Godfrey seems to be a bit slow, but obviously still strong, as Defile is a god tier card when used correctly, but there a difference between those two. Lord Godfrey has a body, but isn't amazingly flexible like Defile is. With Defile, you can use many spells such as Amethyst Spellstone, Hellfire, Mortal Coil, and whatever else you need in order for it to get the maximum value.
Tier 2
Rogue, Hunter, Mage.
Rogue: I do understand that counterfeit coin is going away, but it seems to be easily replaceable without having an absolute MAJOR effect on Miracle Rogue. A new archetype is without a doubt not going to be seen this expansion, and they didn't supply this class with much for the existing archetype other than Cutthroat Buccaneer in Kingsbane Rogue, but we'll see.
Hunter: The cards that they are adding to Hunter with Witchwood are seemingly all playable, although Emeriss does seem extremely slow. Dire Frenzy will be an auto include in any deck contain even 1 beast for Hunter and I'd love to say that Toxmonger will be much stronger than people think.
Mage: We saw a Baku Mage in the most recent card reveal livestream, and it looked so strong to me. As we all know, the cards Cabalist's Tome, Firelands Portal, and Volcanic Potion (I thought it was worth a mention) are moving to wild, and even then, other cards can make this deck strong. A Soot Spewer with draw a card for the same mana? Absolutely! Mage is on the verge of going to Tier 3, as she isn't much without her spells, and with that being said, the other cards given to her with Witchwood don't promote a meta in which Veteran Mage players were looking for. A traditional 5 mana 5/5 body with the ability to draw a card if you played an elemental the turn before doesn't seem like much to me and won't make the Elemental Mage Archetype any "stronger than it already is"
Tier 3
Warrior, Paladin.
Warrior: With Coldlight Oracle going to the Hall of Fame, Mill Warrior will no longer be able to be played in the Standard Format, and taunt warrior was not given any tools for the Witchwood expansion. We'll see how Rush warrior is used though!
Paladin: They're going all over the place with cards they're giving to Paladin. Dragon Paladin never existed, we already have a Vinecleaver for turn 7, and even then, an 8 mana 3/4 weapon feels a bit slow, though that is just an opinion. I'm giving Paladin a chance with giving it Tier 3 but that is because I have hopes for The Glass Knight.
After previewing everything I have typed, I didn't consider Baku or Genn Greymane much, but solely on cards given to each class, this Tier list I feel is relatively accurate, though optimism got the best of me.
Taunt Warrior got the bear and the new tree, didn't they? Along with the ability to reuse DIE, INSECT on a single turn.
Yep Man !! Look at that ! Full guide within
I'm surprised by the amount of people calling this "DUSTWOOD".
I should start off by saying that this is no Un'Goro ... but that's a good thing right? That expansion was filled with meta defining cards, so the next two expansions had to push the boundaries on their power level to have any meta impact. You also have to keep in mind that all these sets had Gadgetzan to compete against (most powerful set?), so once again you have to push the power level of the sets even more. So any powerful sets right off the bat have seriously negative consequences on the following sets and years. So worst case, this expansion having literally zero meta impact (which won't happen), would still be a positive on the next years set.
Next thing to consider is that this set has a lot of tool cards (Kyomugen pointed this out). Dire Frenzy, Archmage Arugal, Lady in White are just a few examples. The possibilities of these cards in helping form new archtypes or reviving old ones is massive. While we may focus on cards that fit into current meta decks, we must consider the fact that Cubelock is the only meta deck not taking a massive hit. This means that new spots open for different tier 1 and 2 decks to actually take form. The new unique 'tool' cards will help with this, but our initial reactions will likely miss out on a lot of it (Token Shaman from Un'Goro, Zoolock from Whispers, both arch-types that say no play in the previous sets, weren't really considered in card evaluations, but became tier 1 decks eventually.
One point people are making is that this is TGT 2.0. That is a decent comparison to make, this set has a huge Hero Power focus much like TGT and both have a 'low' power level (right?). The problem with the TGT's Hero power focus was that Inspire was a pretty bad mechanic (I won't go through why). Unlike Inspire, Baku and Grenn have a chance to be great and the accompanying cards are really powerful. Even if Baku and Grenn fail miserably (like Inspire), Witchwood has much less of their set dedicated to it unlike TGT (more bounce back from a failed mechanic if less room dedicated to it). Upon the point of power level, TGT's biggest problem was that their cards were generally underwhelming. This set is more powerful on average. It has been a while, but go back and look at the TGT set as a whole and you will see a decent margin in the power level of both sets. My final point is that Witchwood has much more class cards which actually interact or fit in the same deck with each other. This is an important factor in the creation of new decks, which TGT failed at.
So my point here is that this set has a lot of potential. It could under preform, but it could also have a decent and long lasting meta impact. I would hold off on calling this 'DUSTWOOD' until the set has released and the meta has had time to settle.
Bah, you and your logical reasoning. Memes are more powerful than your fancy words!
I agree with your general message that the lower power of Witchwood is not a bad thing and that it very possibly might influence the meta a lot in the long run regardless.
However, I don't think that class cards working together in one set is really the way to make new decks happen. Initially perhaps, but when cards are too much relying on each other, they will likely fail together, as it happened with most of the Paladin and Hunter cards in MSG, the Warlock cards in Un'Goro or the Shaman cards in KFT. I think cards are more likely to succeed and thus define new decks if they have effects that can be used in combination with many different cards, instead of being part of an intended 10 card "package". I'm not saying that is the case for the Witchwood cards, just my opinion on this approach in card design.
You all have lost your mind. This set is going to be ridiculous. The power levels are still up, just not in the obvious way of other sets.
Plus, you lot are really underestimating rush.
I cannot wait to play around with Shudderwock.
But both Cubelock and Control Warlock got even better with Ratcatcher and Dark Possession. FeelsBadMan
Althought they are both ok cards in cubelock, trust me, they will probably see no play in those decks. First because warlock cards hardly compete to enter in a cubelock deck, and how warlocks basically won't loose anything with the rotation, these cards will probably see no play, not because they are bad, but because all warlock cards are too good.
The power level of the game definitely needed to drop, I absolutely agree with that. I'm perfectly fine with what Witchwood is doing for the game overall. My only complaint was that Warlock was and will remain very strong. Almost uncontestedly strong, though that type of problem seems to crop up with A LOT of expansions, so we'll make do, as we always have. Brode already said Cubelock might remain too powerful and if so, they have nerfs in mind to help, so we have that to look forward to at least. I'm planning on having fun with this expansion, and no one is gonna stop me from doing JUST that.
Just wanted to thank the art team for this expansion cause WoW
