Hi there fellow hearthpwneers, first look at the category in which this thread is posted ;p , now as the title suggest let's have a really nerdy conversation because why the hell not?
Ok i will start first,. I was lucky to grow up in a family where my natural curiosity was always encouraged and as a result i grew interested in every aspect of knowledge, science, psychology, philosophy and even mythology (which includes somewhat religion?). To satisfy my curiosity I red the Bible, the Quran, but i was mostly interested in mythology (Greek/Roman, Norse, Egyptian and a bit of Celtic). Until today the deity that fascinates me the most is Athena/Minerva. No contest!
Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom, knowledge but also strategic war, justice (even though there was a blind goddess Justice) and handicraft. Athena to me represent the best aspects of humanity and what a human should strive to be : noble, wise, intelligent, understanding, respectful but not being afraid of confrontation and always having a good grasp of reality. Athena in all the stories wanted her followers to be independent , helped only the worthy, was an equalizer (helping the heroes when other gods tried to kill them or rewarding intelligent and cunning individuals), and always acting as a mentor and not a savior. Athena represents the best values of ancient Greece/Rome and as a result the best values of modern western civilization. I am such a fanboy of Athena that i could write about her for days but i will stop here.
Here is an informative video about her (just the basics)
Honorable mentions : Anubis from Egyptian mythology and God Emperor of mankind( Warhammer 40k)
I am very fond of Sheogorath, as far as games go. Not technically a god, but Daedra form their own cults.
Terry Pratchett's Crocodile God Offler is also quite fun. Death, while not an actual God, is still among my favorite characters.
Mythologically, I always liked Hephaestus. I don't know why, but a god who limps always gets to a soft spot of mine. Ares is also pretty cool, even if just because his descendants technically founded my favorite civilization of all time after being breast-fed by a wolf.
As for active religions, the Old Testament God was a badass. If you f**ked with him in any way, he'd put your whole village to a genocide. Sometimes, even if you didn't f**k with him, you'd still end up at the wrong end of a Divine Wrath. The remake kinda ruined it.

Start of Year: Provoke the failure of 3 expansions, force nerfs on otherwise balanced cards, bring deckbuilding to an all-time low and get rotated one year earlier for being such a threat to the game's health. - Genn and Baku's historical entry on the White Book of Shit Design, shortly before retiring unpunished
I just wanted to pop in and say that we do not allow for any political/religious discussions here (not even in Off Topic). I can see that it is not the main point of this thread, so i will let this open for now. But if it turns into that dirrection, the discussion will get locked. Just wanted to put it out there ;-)
To the topic, i kinda liked the egyptian gods playin a lot of Pharaoh when i was younger (and watching Stargate lel) :)
Tyche. Someone who can control luck. You can know her under the name of "Fortune". She never ask anything from you, and never promise you anything. No afterlife, no fancy miracles - nothing. Although, sometimes, if you happen to do something interesting - she may look at you with approval and joy, and help you a bit - or may not. No promises, remember? IMHO, If you chose to believe in any god, at least let it be someone who you d like to hang out with. So yeah, her. Sadly, there is not many info left about Tyche - maybe, for better, because if you ever read some of the Greek mythos - gods were kind of a dicks. Not all, not all by far but many - and since luck is her schtick - I imagine she screwed up a loooot of people, deserve they so or not.
Anyway, let the lady look at you with joy, cos you dont want her to look at you another way.

To be honest if this devolves in a political/religious discussion (which i am afraid it might) i would ask you myself to shut it down.

My favourite Goddess has always been The Lady of the Lake (Warhammer Fantasy) also known as Lileath, the elven Goddess of prophecy, dreams and fortune. She was not only revered by elves, but also by humans (bretonnians). She was the national deity of Bretonnia and the patron of chivalry and honour.
Her chosen champions were the powerful Grail Knights. These divine warriors were former Questing Knights (humans) whom she had deemed worthy to drink from the Holy Grail, a sacred chalice revealed to be filled with her own divine lifeblood. Even a small fraction of her essence elevated these men above mere mortals, making them the ultimate knights.
The Lady of the Lake was an extremely powerful goddess (much more than Sigmar and the Empire's young pantheon), but she sacrificed herself during The End of Times. :( (F...k you Games Workshop!!! >:-()
She is my favourite because she used to value above all things noblity, purity and courage in the face of danger, and used to protect an entire nation of men, through it's knights, despite of being an elven Goddess. :)
I’ve always clicked with those dark, Lovecraftian themes. I think the idea of bohemoths far at the bottom of the ocean slumbering. Cthulhu was my first favorite.
I also love the mythology of Thor because it’s like if the fun kind of college Bro was a God.
Lovecraftian mythos for me. Cosmic entities beyond our understanding and beings of pure chaos and madness - that's pretty neat. So stuff like Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, Shub-Niggurath...
Being from Scandinavia, I have always been told a lot of stories from norse mythology due to my parents finding the subject very interesting. Therefor Loki is by far my favorite. Not because of his role in the Marvel Universe (which I'm not really a big fan of) but because of the great myths about him. He plays a big role being the father of Fenrir, Jörmungandr and Hel, and tricking Hoder who is blind into killing Baldr and I could go on. He is generally a very interesting and twisted character as the trickster god.
"The flow of time is always cruel... its speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it... A thing that does not change with time is a memory of younger days..."
