So we are a couple months and seasons into the current expansion, Journey to Un'Goro. What are your thoughts so far? Have you enjoyed it? Do you think it is diverse enough? Is quest rouge the Anti-Christ? Personally, I have enjoyed it, with multiple tier one decks from multiple classes. I'll admit that I have only gotten to rank five during this time, but I enjoyed my short climb. I felt that the meta was pretty diverse.
Have you had similar experiences? What are your thoughts on the latest expansion?
I like it! Although I was let down a bit by Quest Warrior, I love the class and I love the concept, I would just love if the deck wasn´t so one dimensional, I believe that is my biggest issue with Un'Goro, aside from that, I like the meta!
Not the meta for me. Too fast, too many random cards and frustrating mechanics.
Casual I do enjoy, but its not what the thread is about.
Do you find a substantial difference in the speed of the casual meta? I don't know if it has to do with casual MMR or something, but I face mostly the same aggro and cookie cutter meta decks in casual also, sadly.
I concede to every mage and quest rogue which are only 2 decks i really cant put up with and which drive me mad - too many random cards, non-interactive game play and they have upper hand against control decks which i mostly play.
Decks I play on casual dont have too much rpoblem against aggro so i really dont mind.
So to answer your question i would say its 50/50 (substracting mages and quest rogues) for the same meta decks and for decks you dont rather meet on ladder. But the most important thing for me is that i can again have fun playing HS and chose what i want to play against instead tilting, while facing most retarded decks this game has ever had to offer.
I like this meta , although I guess it had to get faster to not fall victim to Questrouge.
This meta still leaves room for experiments ( I try to get Legend with a Elemental Shaman including four mana 7/7 and lots of healing) , that Toast made it to Legend with his f2p Hunter is just awesome.
If we get more cards it won't be so easy and I doubt following metas will be better.
Better (compared to the last few expansions), but not (nearly) perfect. Class diversity is probably the best we've ever had, but the actual decks are not, nor are they fun.
Looking at the most popular/best decks for each class we have:
That is a really terrible distribution imo. If you extend this list to second and third most popular, you'll also find mostly more aggro and aggressive midrange lists. The only real control decks in the entire meta are Quest Warrior and Jade Druid, every other deck is based (at least to some degree) on early tempo and constant pressure.
I believe this is to a large degree because healing in general hasn't been this weak since vanilla. The recent aggro tuning was based around healing being at its strongest point ever with Reno Jackson in the game, so once he rotated out the balance just crumbled. There are some really solid AoE now around 6 mana, but at that point you are often really close to death with no way to recover, so you're screwed either way. It's no surprise Druid and Warrior have the only viable control decks, seeing how they currently have the only good healing options (or in the case of Warrior, endless taunts).
It also doesn't help that both Jade Druid and Quest Rogue are in the game, two decks that are both very hard for slow decks to beat regardless of how they tech.

yeah sure dude.........
"only real control decks are quest warrior and jade druid"
hunter - midrange listed under AGGRO ...
not mentioning the tier 1 and strongest deck in the meta atm control mage , which even destroys quest rogue :D:D
I hate to see those comments, I mean if you have no idea, why would you even comment on something ?!
The meta is pretty good actually expecially if you compare it to the hell that was MSoG Just before It.
Anyway I don't like all those fast aggro running around: there indeed should be cheap efficient fast aggressive deck but actually playing versus someone who just vomits his hand and kills you on turn 5 is just pretty annoying. Also I don't even like that playstyle myself when you've so many different archetype avaible now.
On top there are the two most boring deck in the whole history of HS: Quest Rogue and Quest Warrior. Both absolutly monodimensional and uninteractive both to play and to play against.
But considering everything I'm having a pretty good time actually, with my main class (Priest) that has lots of different decks to play with.

I'd like to add that Control Priest with Lyra can also be quite good, but you have to admit that Hunter is always on the aggressive side of 'midrange'. Most of the exact same decks try for an early Scavenging Hyena or Vicious Fledging that can't be stopped, which is absolutely an aggressive play. Hunter doesn't trade as often either. I've lost tons of games to top decked Kill Command, Eaglehorn Bow, Huffer from Animal Companion etc. It still bugs me that 'Tempo' Mage isn't considered aggro too.
Contorl mage? You mean gather as much burst spell dmg through discover and random generation emchanics and then throw it all at your opponents face?
yes, and play Alex and keep the board clear :D
very fun and interactive but this shit beats everything. played it from rank 5 to 4 yesterday - went 5-0 and even beat a jade druid who had like 25 armor :D
Hunter will always be on the "aggro side" of midrange because they had never given him any different tools beside that playstyle. Probably heavy aggressive and aggressive midrange are the class concepts Team 5 has in mind for Hunter.
Id never enjoy playing such a cancerous random bullshit. Times, where i was playing only what was best for ladder, are far behind me :P
And its not that i feel like i am better not playing brainless cancer or non-interactive decks. I just dont want to play decks which tilt me when im playing against them. Have some fucking respect for your opponent and dignity to play sth more entertaining. xD
back then I only finised naxx HC, I started to do the other adventures yesterday. no netdecking, no forum checking, nothing. so far I like it. thats how I care about the meta now. :D I will go to rank 5 at the end of the month, and thats is. lot of ppl are saying that there are so many decks out there but that doesnt mean that the meta is good. its boring as hell and half the decks are annoying.
I enjoy the meta most of the time. However, there are two decks that I really dislike: Quest Rogue and Secret Mage.
The quest rogue is just a stupid design as it is an extremely polarized deck. Win the majority of the games against control, and lose the majority to aggro decks. I don't mind counter matchups. E.g. Jade Druid is also strong against control decks but with a good start their jades becomes useless. Quest Rogue can more or less burst you for 25 damage once the quest is complete. And I just dislike Secret Mage - mostly due to primorial glyph.
Other than that, it's the usual aggressive decks most of the time, and they are somewhat manageable.
VS have been quite enthusiastic about Un'Goro for the past two months. From the latest report -
"There are 18 different decks from 7 classes that exhibit win rates ranging from 48% to 52%. Nearly every deck on this list has displayed the capability of performing well at the very high end of ladder. This is the flattest, most balanced Meta we’ve ever witnessed, and there is simply no deck in the game that is clearly better than others. The Meta is dynamic and changes every day, which is how it should behave, and we very much appreciate this aspect of Un’Goro."
At legend, the top twelve decks in the game are statistically even, given the standard error in the VS data. Another half-dozen are within 1% of the top twelve. Importantly, each of the four major archetypes is equally viable, with multiple different builds available to choose from. Realistically, the meta-game will seldom be better than this - those who dislike it are probably discovering that they simply don't like HS.

A midrange deck per definition has to have control elements, which is how Midrange Hunter originally got its name (from running cards like Freezing Trap and Sludge Belcher). Nowadays that deck runs zero control cards, and even has a lower average mana cost than Pirate Warrior. It's an aggro deck with a legacy name.
Control/Burn Mage is tier 2 and is also not a control deck, it's a midrange deck.
Please refrain from insults.

I would really love to see, how long players who voted have been playing this game, to see whether there is any correlation.

Ridiculously polarized match ups and very fast meta
Better (compared to the last few expansions), but not (nearly) perfect. Class diversity is probably the best we've ever had, but the actual decks are not, nor are they fun.
Looking at the most popular/best decks for each class we have:
Aggro
Warrior - Pirate
Shaman - Evolve
Mage - Secret
Druid - Token
Hunter - Midrange
Warlock - Zoo
Midrange
Priest - Dragon
Paladin - Midrange
Other
Rogue - Quest
That is a really terrible distribution imo. If you extend this list to second and third most popular, you'll also find mostly more aggro and aggressive midrange lists. For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
