Looking for a good time...?
Try winning with Abomination in 2020
This deck inspired by one of RegisKillbin's Standard decks. Initially, I made it for the memes, but now, I play it for the wins.
LATEST UPDATE:
Still testing with new MDF cards. So far, Insight looks to be a great draw for this deck. EZ to corrupt and guarantees a useful draw. Claw Machineis also testing well.
CORE CARDS:
Kolbold Sandtrooper and Abomination are the core of the deck's win condition.
Shadowreaper Anduin has saved me too many times not to include. He gives an extra bit of oomph in the endgame and can be fueled by lackey-power if you play it right.
TECH CHOICES:
Psychic Scream has made it's way in here. Good to stabilize aggro (if you can make it to turn 7) and thwarts control decks that are ahead.
Lightbomb and I have had an on-again, off-again relationship for a while. I just don't know. It's not Lightbomb; it's me, but right now... I'm feeling the need to clear the board more often, so we're back on. Oh, Lightbomb, you get me... you really do. I take it all back. Lightbomb, you're not good enough for me. Go away... until I need you again.
PLAY STYLE:
This one depends a bit on who you are playing against. Your first adjustment is which minions you are casting Embalming Ritual on. You need to be intentional about what minions you are adding to your resurrection pool for Twilight's Call.
- Against Aggro: Try to get Kobold Sandtrooper and Abomination out, sacrifice and revive. You can get Amara, Warden of Hope out on turns 5-7 with a great to good draw. Land a lethal N'Zoth, the Corruptor for the late-game win. If you are playing a deck that requires lots of trades, don't be afraid to revive Dead Ringer. Just don't go overboard cause it will clog your rez pool.
- Against Control: Focus on reviving Convincing Infiltrator. Both give a lot of value by impacting your opponent's deck and giving you additional resources in hand. Save Seance for the right card depending on the matchup - often N'Zoth, the Corruptor if it lasts a turn or Amara, Warden of Hope.
TLDR – Embalm, go face, repeat ;)
AbominationKobold Sandtrooper2020
I've gone back and forth on Baron Rivendare vs Spiritsinger Umbra. I'm tempted to cut both. Lately they both seem a bit too slow, as the meta seems faster after DoD. Shadowy Figure can definitely work. I've rotated one in and out of the deck. Currently trying out Grave Rune.
Shadowreaper Anduin has saved me many times - both by removing minions and giving that extra oomph in the late-game. Leeroy Jenkins is a bit of a play style choice. Can be a lot of burst, but the deck might need a better tech card after the meta switch.
I take back what I said about Shadowreaper Anduin, I left it out from the get go because I thought the deck was supposed to play faster, but after playing with it it has really made a difference. I'm substituting one Bad Luck Albatross for a Backstreet Leper simply because I only have one Albatross and don't feel the need for another one. The Leper helps with pushing for damage too, and the 3/1 stat works smoothly with Rebirth.
I played with both Baron Rivendare and Spiritsinger Umbra and I agree, they're too clunky to get any consistent value off of both. Rivendare is better because you don't have to combo it for guaranteed value, just play it when you have stuff you can trigger for extra value, or even lethal. Never played with Leeroy Jenkins, but then again I haven't considered the Charge+Rebirth combo, and I'm substituting both Wretched Reclaimer for Shadowy Figure. Copying Grave Rune and/or Embalming Ritual is key, use two Vivid Nightmare.
I want to point out that Abomination is really powerful in this deck, while somehow Leper Gnome feels weak. The deck is slow enough I might try replacing them with Resurrect and another Backstreet Leper.
Edit: I just found out Wretched Reclaimer's battlecry retains the Reborn effect. That makes the Leeroy combo even better. Does it also work with Grave Rune?
Edit 2: I just found out it DOESN'T work. I read online about it combo-ing with Rebirth, but it doesn't, it only gives a copy. Why use it in the deck then? There are better ways to copy.
I agree with you that Abomination is really powerful, and after a lot of play, I'm pulling Leper Gnome. What is was good for was making an easy turn 6-8 play to complete the quest and play Amara on the same turn.
All that said, I've been testing out a new variant - updated here. If you test it out, let me know what you think.
I play with Shadowy Figure Baron Rivendare Mind Blast, Shadowreaper and Leeroy aren't good enough IMO.
Edit: nvm, Mind Blast sucks.
Amazing deck. Fun too! 10-5 so far. good chance to beat Big Priest and not bad against Warlock, Seems like most don't know how to handle the surprise burst from Leeroy. Thanks!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying and finding some success. Let me know if you try anything else that makes it work better.
