Hearthstone has tranaformed into this kind of competitive game because the community has placed far too much emphasis on winning.
Hardly anyone plays outside of the meta because that would mean their win rates would drop.
The beta and the first few months before Naxxramas were the best time to play Hearthstone because most players actually tried out novel deck ideas instead of searching up the highest win rate flavour of the month deck on Hearthpwn or some other site.
I can't remember the last time I ran into a non-meta deck in casual. :'( It makes me sad to think I'm the only one that even bothers using cards like Wee Spellstopper, Master of Ceremonies, and Anub'arak. Like why are cards like these even printed? :(
Sneed's Old Shredder: big taunt and spawns a legendary when it dies which is usually a huge minion.
Giant Sand Worm: Attacks as many times as your opponent has minions AND can hit face once after its health gets low from trading (assuming all taunts cleared).
Gahz'rilla: Hit a minion with this one and its attack becomes 12, makes this minion top priority for your opponent, combo potential.
Swamp King Dred: huge body and destroys opponent's minions as they are played, countered by Poisonous minions though.
The Black Knight: Destroys any played minion and then can attack to destroy another minion or hit face.
Cards with the Poisonous keyword to kill minions. Example: Pit Snake
Cards with the Windfury keyword to close out the game. Example: Windfury Harpy
Any card that can gain the Windfury/Poisonous keywords through Adapt. Example: Volcanosaur
Anub'arak was my favourite legendary from TGT. I built a Reno Rogue deck around trying to abuse him with Shadowcaster and N'Zoth. Getting him from Barnes is insane value and so is getting him from N'Zoth alongside Sludge Belcher. Only ways around the card are to transform it, Entomb it (I hate that card...) or go face. Reno made going face difficult for my opponents. ^_^
Brawl is still a great option for demolishing Jade Druid's board. It doesn't matter how big the Golems are if they all die. =)
In all seriousness though I believe the classic win condition of Alexstrasza into Grom + Cruel Taskmaster + Weapon hit does a lot of work against Jade Druid. I've beaten many of them. It definitely isn't an auto-loss if you include enough card draw alongside the combo. Grommash can also be used to outreach greedy Reno players when activated by Cruel Taskmaster.
Doesn't click with me. Lack of Sap lost me a couple of games also.
Deck lists are not static and should always change with the meta. Unfortunately I do not have the time to update my guides with each shift in the meta but I do the best I can with the time I do have.
Sap definitely has its merits and may definitely be better suited for the current meta. If you like Sap then you can try swapping out Shadow Strike for it. Shadow Strike is the closest thing there is to a filler removal spell in this list. :)
Save your dust from other cards and be patient. Xaril is a great card, but as others explained, Van Cleefe is better in the current meta.
However, the meta may change and Xaril may become a much stronger card so DON'T dust it just yet, especially since it's golden. Even the cards it produces on battlecry and deathrattle will be golden too which is kind of cool.
Personally, I would never dust golden legendary unless it was a real bad one that almost never gets used like Tinkmaster.
Or Millhouse Manastorm LOL. For some reason I still have my golden of him...
Thanks guys, I'll try to gather up some dust to craft Edwin as well then. I'll try Xaril in more deck types and see where it fits best. Only played N'Zoth and Reno with it and both decks dissapointed me.
Try this Reno Rogue list if you have the cards for it :) I've had a LOT of fun with this deck, even in ranked I was sometimes getting triple Anub'arak back with N'Zoth through Shadowcaster shenanigans.
Don't disenchant golden Xaril! I can almost guarantee that that card will see play within the next year. As it is there are some other great Rogue decks (not necessarily Miracle) that you can make that have room for it. Some fun decks exist too, like C'Thun Rogue, N'Zoth Rogue, Reno Rogue and Burgle Rogue (I use Xaril in all of these decks and I also play these decks in ranked).
Also might I point out that VanCleef requires you to have a very specific combination of cards to even be useful. Xaril is useful on its own and can be played on curve without prior setup. Also, many cards exist that can take care of VanCleef even if you do drop it on curve as a 12/12. A 12/12 VanCleef hardly ever gets dropped anyway though since it requires both Preparation, another two spells and The Coin. Usually VanCleef is an 8/8 at best when dropped on curve with The Coin, Preparation and another spell.

I just wanted to contribute a fun idea...

A mage spell that synergizes with secrets but is not a secret itself.

I play these, my home-made favourites. =)

I agree that Wild has a lot to offer free players because their crafted cards never become obsolete by the set rotation each year.

Pirate Warrior doesn't win as often as you think it does. It just wins (or loses) much more QUICKLY than most decks.
As for crafting, I crafted the Lich King. He's a very strong control card.

You can beat him with a fatigue deck too, I took him all the way to -8 fatigue and then finished him with what I had on board.

So I think I have a good start to making a list of which cards are super good for pushing damage/generating immense value in this Tavern Brawl.
Vicious Fledgling: Huge threat if allowed to hit face.
Piloted Shredder: Generates a minion when destroyed.
Piloted Sky Golem: hits hard and generates a minion when destroyed.
Sneed's Old Shredder: big taunt and spawns a legendary when it dies which is usually a huge minion.
Giant Sand Worm: Attacks as many times as your opponent has minions AND can hit face once after its health gets low from trading (assuming all taunts cleared).
