We've all had it done to us... We've all done it to someone else... the infamous roping. We do it for salt. We do it for frustration. We do it for entertainment. We do it for punishment. We do it for revenge.
I'm curious to know how many people have gotten into "rope battles"? What I mean by that is either you or your opponent ropes when the game in clearly unwinnable, yet both of you continue to rope until someone gives in or fatigue damage chooses the winner.
I'll start by saying I had one of these this morning. Why? Well, I was playing Hand Druid, and my opponent was playing Baku Hunter (in casual, mind you). He got owned, and began roping. He would wait until the timer kicked in, use his hero power, and wait for the timer to end. After doing this 2x, I figured he was pissed and was doing it on purpose. So I returned the favor and used Malfurian's hero power to negate all damage while I had a full board. I decided to do this because I had the "Take 25 turns" quest so I said why the hell not?!
How many of you are guilty of doing similar tactics and getting into roping battles? It truly wastes everyone's time, so why do we do it?
I despise people who do it on purpose. But in saying that, if someone does it on turn one, I'll do it right back at them. They never do it again... works every time. Does that mean I despise myself?

Probably.
It's funny right because we feel like our time is being wasted, but then we do it back. LOL. I guess I don't want them to think I don't know what they are doing. I've only ever had one person do it from turn 1 (a paladin). He almost won too, but I used Guldan and took his win away. Normally I'd feel dirty winning that way, but that asshat deserved it. He added me after to say thanks for wasting HIS time! hahahaha
To be guilty of doing something it essentially means that it is inherently wrong in the first place. I hate roping but if someone is being a prick and does it to me, I just give them a taste of their own medicine and keep roping until they lose or concede out of frustration. Payback is a bitch!

if s1 ropes u intentionally rope them until the end of game . Otherwise he cant learn wtf he is doin . U are gonna surprise how fast they play after all
Intentionally roping is a waste of your time. Revenge, punishment, BMing, whatever the excuse, if you're roping to mess with your opponent, you don't value your own time at all.
I actually play a lot faster against people like that, and find something else to do while they take their turns. I don't bother roping people back because I seem to value my time a lot more than some people do theirs.
Lol whever I encounter a roper all I do is alt-tab during his turn and enjoy some youtube, by the time I alt-tab back to play then the rope is already starting for my own turn, so its cool.
I only ever intentionally start to rope when its some cancer tier1 netdeck that emote spams every turn. Again I do the alt-tab strategy because dankmeme videos are always a great distraction.
Assuming the only thing you're doing is playing Hearthstone. If you're multitasking, the roping someone to give them a taste of their own medicine also allows you more time to focus your attention on what you are really doing. Maybe that's just me!

Yes I will do it right back to my opponents if they repeatedly do it to me. Usually if they do it during the first mulligan or first hand I will not do it back as I figure maybe they were doing something else. But anything past that, if they are obviously roping for no reason then I will do it right back.
I have three monitors usually running so it does not bother me at all to read and article, or watch a video while letting the rope burn right to the end.

Agree, by roping your opponent you're roping yourself.
I've found several resilient ropers over the years. Matches taking ages because I rope back and neither party is giving up.
I'm not 100% innocent of this tactic though. I've never relied on it to win, but there have been occasions when I used it. If a Netdecker in Casual thanks me for conceding with my meme deck after the game, and I have the joyous opportunity to face him again right away, then that cheeky piece of scum is in for 30 minutes of nothingness. Emoting a thank you if they concede brings a smile to my face.
Roping on ranked feels stupid though, regardless of what I'm facing or how it is behaving. All's fair in ladder and war, I 'd say.

As a Wild player I play against a similar playerbase at legend rank quite often and I've bumped into one player who actually ropes every game he plays. While of course doing other stuff! He's a real prick lol.

Your opponent had all the right in the world to rope you (and you had all the right in the world to rope him), because he wasn't doing anything against the rules (and you neither). The rules ARE the rules bro, everyone must respect them, and in this case nobody was doing anything against them. I never rope because it's just a waste of time for me, but that doesn't mean it is something wrong.
I actually play a lot faster against people like that, and find something else to do while they take their turns. I don't bother roping people back because I seem to value my time a lot more than some people do theirs.
I'll try to play super-fast against ropers to reduce the time they have to think about their turn.
I don't do it just to be a dick but I'll do it back (if not playing on a break at work where time is limited) right back at someone whose roping or sometimes I'll do it if I'm SUPER salty over some BS stuff going on.
I rope every turn because I want to ensure I make the best possible plays. When my turn is obvious, I still use all available time to analyze potential future plays and try to predict my opponent's hand and strategy.
I play play slower and rope more when i get up in ladder to rank 2/1/legend. Otherwise i'm playing as fast as possible and only making few mistakes. But that time it saves me, allowes me to do more games. ;)

I do all my thinking during the roper's turn.
Ah yes, I do this too sometimes. A classic time management strategy from chess.

The only time I rope is when I've got the game won and my opponent has been a turd during the match. It's pretty rare.
