i have been playing a rogue but it feels like i need another minion to stabilize the board. i need the shredder of 3 drops. im seriously thinking about adding spider tank just beacuse of stats. what is the best 3 drop by itself
Assuming you are not on a badget, fjola and eydis would be strictly better than spidertank in a non-mech deck. If not , yes it's probably spider tank and possibly harvest golem.

My gosh. The level of facepalm in this thread :( He asked about a standalone 3-drop for Rogue.
So many non-rogue OR combo cards that therefore not "Standalone".
Honestly, if you're solely looking for stabilization your best bets are Harvest Golem (as the original Shredder for 3) or Spider Tank for raw vanilla stats. Scarlet Crusader is an honorable mention.
Argent Horserider and Shade of Naxxramas are also notable as having higher upside in Oil rogue if that's your deck when you don't need to contest the board as early as turn 3, but still capable of that to some extent.
This thread made me realize how poor is the 3 mana slot. There are few options, and most of them are class cards.
In hindsight, the Warsong Commander was probably the culprit, holding back many potentially good 3 mana minions. You expect at least 3 power from the 3 mana, so that alone was a huge problem for Blizzard I believe.
Next expansion will most probably bring good creatures for the neutral 3 mana slot
Van Cleef is rarely a 3-drop though. Sure, you can combo with coin or 0 spells... but that might not offer the stability OP wants.
You have a slight point, however I don't believe adding one extra 3-drop is going to help Rogue all that much, aside from already running 2x SI:7 agents (which are fine vanilla 3-3's when they aren't combo'd out like Van Cleef) and the possible taken slot with Earthen Ring Farseer.
If you are playing the tempo game as rogue, no standard 3 drop like harvest golem is going to do as much as backstab + SI/Van Cleef or combo'ing with prep for Eviscerate/FoKn which increases tempo gained and value from Van Cleef. Seems stable enough.

Shady Dealer has great stats for a stand-alone drop; no one would play it a non-pirate deck. Injured Blademaster has great stats for a standalone drop; no one would play it in a non-priest deck. He didn't gave enough contest, he got generic answers.
Those are fine, but if you're going to play one of those with no synergy you'd be better off with either Saboteur or a Light's Champion as they have the same stats but better upside in more situations. I don't think either of those listed go away from what I was talking about though with some people offering up options that were either not playable by rogue or not an actual 3-drop like Van Cleef or Questing Adventurer or whatever that really is a 3 drop that requires additional cards same turn to be of any relevant value.

Dark Cultist is, but for neutrals it would be Harvest Golem.

I think it depends a lot on what you want to accomplish with your 3-drops.
Stat-wise both Dancing Swords and Ogre Brute are above Spider Tank but they don't see play because their drawbacks are considered too steep.
If you want a sticky minion go for Harvest Golem.
Even good old Earthen Ring Farseer has its uses.
Cards shouldn't be overall better than any other card of the same cost Boom and shredder are just stupid cards i guess.
The difference between gimmick and sinergy is only consistency. Mrglglrglglglglglglgl!!!
I really like Scarlet Crusader. It's the only 3 drop I can think of that can go toe to toe with a Shredder and come out even.
Of course, it's really bad vs. Earth Shock. But, given the relative numbers of Earth Shocks vs. Piloted Shredders you face I think it's a good card.

Edwin VanCleef for sure. If you're on a budget then try Harvest Golem
Its fangs are in your flesh before its hiss leaves your ears.
Golden Heroes: Druid -> Rogue -> Shaman -> Hunter -> Warlock
Why does everyone forget the Questing Adventurer? It's a really good card, and in a combo rogue deck, it can easily get pumped up quickly!

Injured Blademaster in priest.
Earthen Ring Farseer or especially in rogue, Argent Horserider

I'm finding Big Game Hunter to be the most versatile neutral 3 drop in the game. Period
But if you are asking about what you need on turn 3 then each class has pretty good ones. Go that route and see what works best for you.
And if you are just asking about Rogue, then Edwin VanCleef
