Spellbook Duel is This Week's Brawl!
Choose your spellbook carefully, champion! Pick 10 cards, and anytime you would draw a card, you instead Discover a copy of a card from your deck.
Trivia
- This is the second time we've seen this brawl.
- The first time we saw this brawl was on January 18, 2017.
- Card draw effects don't work in this brawl. Instead they give you a copy of Peruse.
How it Works
- Choose a class.
- From your chosen class, pick 10 cards from your collection to put into your deck.
- You may only have 1 of each card in your created deck.
- Each time you draw your initial card, you will instead use the Discover mechanic to pick a card from your deck.
- If you draw a card through a card effect, you don't immediately gain the Discover window. You must spend 1 mana to Discover that card though Peruse.
Fun Times
This is just a sampling of some of the fun card interactions we have with this brawl.
- You can add more cards to your deck. Playing a card like Jade Idol will give you 3 copies of it, which will increase your chances during Discover of seeing another Jade Idol.
- Tracking will actually remove 2 cards from your Discover pool. Choose wisely, hero!
- Fel Reaver will also remove cards from the Discover pool. Mages be warned, you can get this from Firelands Portal.
- Reno Jackson and the other Reno-style cards will always work unless dupe cards are added to your deck.
- Beneath the Grounds.. yep. It ruins your opponent's Discover pool (And Reno potential) with Ambush being tossed in.
Top Decks from the Past
These were the top five decks from the last time this brawl was active. There is likely some new decks to try though so don't limit yourself to these right away!

Discuss This Week's Brawl
Head on over to our dedicated discussion thread on our Tavern Brawl forums.
Quest mage is so broken I love it
I just played that Big Edwin deck against a Warlock. I won the duel by repeatedly casting Kazakus potions.
This is gonna be a fun week.
Freeze Mage /thread
well, the first brawl in January 2017 actually made me post my first deck here at Hearthpwn, since i had a pretty high win-ratio with it and besides this: that is really a fun brawl :-)
I made a fun paladin deathrattle secret deck since i just bought Naxx.
1 x Blessing of Wisdom
1 x Noble Sacrifice
1 x Bloodmage Thalnos
1 x Mad Scientist
1 x Baron Rivendare
1 x Spiritsinger Umbra
1 x Feugen
1 x Stalagg
1 x Sludge Belcher
1 x Kel'Thuzad
It got pretty out of hand once i got enough mana to get rolling.
Yes, finally a fun brawl again. Last time, I had a blast as Miracle Rogue in this one. Time to try some Burgle shenanigans when it hits EU!
Finally an interesting brawl... Oh hey there Mage, nice to meet you.
Made a deck with 7 1 cost spells plus skulking geist, the idea being I'd then have a 3 card deck and always choose from the same 3 cards.
After playing geist, however, the following turn no discover choices appear, and I'm unable to play any cards already in my hand, hero power doesn't work, and I can't even end turn. So essentially I just lose regardless of what the other player has done so far. I've tested it twice with same results, so it wasn't a latency issue.
I think what might be happening is the game is trying to cast Peruse as an invisible 11th card instead of drawing a card, but Skulking Geist destroys it. So the mode is trying to cast a spell that isn't there and gets stuck in that phase, leaving you unable to do anything.
It seems this will only happen if you have exactly 3 cards in your deck.
This is not the case, I am using a deck with all the 1 cost mage spells. Ice block, and some filler. The point of the deck being that I can always have ice block up.
Arcane Missiles
Breath of Sindragosa
Ice Lance
Flamewaker

Open the Waygate
Sorcerer's Apprentice
Arcane Intellect
Ice Block
Skulking Geist
Aggro Murloc Paladin (with Old Murk-Eye) is fast and easy,
Mage seems pretty strong. Kappa
Because he’s forcing an opinion down people’s throat with unintelligent arguments. Tavern Brawl stats never prove anything related to the ladder.
Exodia decks let's go!
Jade seems interesting with this brawl
Seems like the old Mage deck is still the strongest in this one...
1x Arcane Missiles
1x Ice Lance
1x Mana Wyrm
1x Frostbolt
1x Soccerer's Apprentice
1x Arcane Intellect
1x Flamewaker
1x Ice Block
1x Gadgetzan Auctioneer
1x Reno Jackson
Functions both as a Control, Aggro and Combo deck, so you can just adapt to your opponents strategy and then beat them up...
Highlander priest without inconsistency and get what you need in the right time? Of course, so strong the poor mage can do nothing about it and ragequit.
