I don't think there ever could have been a middle ground for this card.
The problem wasn't in the stats -- it was in the trigger. The reason Thing from Below is strong but fair is that using the Shaman hero power isn't completely without cost. Pushing that button is, in a vacuum, an extremely inefficient use of mana for every class. But playing and trading minions is a necessary, inevitable part of the game for the vast majority of decks.
Same with Kabal Crystal Runner -- Mage secrets are the most expensive secrets in the game, and tricking them out for free comes with its own set of issues.
But really this is just the tip of the iceberg. The recruit shenanigans are going to have to be dealt with, too, or it's going to be a very long year.
I think it's a bad nerf...they should make it a 3/5 or maybe reduce the initial cost to 5-6 (as a 2/5). If you don't draw it early in the game you will be stuck with a 5-7 mana 2/5 which is just bad, even a 4 mana 2/5 is bad so they actually made the card unplayable.

This is what happens when you scream for a card to be nerfed. Blizzard don't just balance the card, they outright kill it. Why are people surprised?
What I do not get is that with Patches getting nerfed, the card probably would have been fine as a 5/5 maybe with an extra mana cost because patches was the reason why this card was getting mana discounted so quickly, so blizzard could have actually balanced this card a lot better rather than just destroying it.
People complain that it will not see any play now. And argue things like it should have been the death of friendly minions which reduce its cost. I think Blizzard is right on this one. I hated the tempo swings of 0 mana 5/5 in so many decks. With the friendly minions nerf it would have disappeared into oblivion. In this state, it actually could have a place in evolve shaman. So right nerf. It is no longer a tempo card for all, but a niche card.
Should have just deleted the card. Did it need a nerf .. hell yes. Did it need to become worthless? No. It's now completely useless if draw late, and barely worth the deck space even if played for free.
Should have left the 5/5, but made the lowest mana cost be 2.

I wanna glide down, over Mulholland I wanna write her, name in the sky I wanna free fall, out into nothin' Gonna leave this, world for awhile
I feel like they may have over-corrected with this nerf. I don't run the card, so I am not upset about it, but it seems like a drastic change. I thought if anything, they would just increase the base cost.
The card is now unplayable in most decks it used to be in but I am happy with that . Too many times against aggro I was like ,,I need to clear this board or I die,, and then 2 creepers come down punishing me for doing something that HAD TO be done that game. It's still good in evolve shaman or some beast synergy deck so it's not unplayable and when Potion of Madness rotates out the 2 attack will not be as bad as it is now.
The art on that card is going to be silly now with such low attack. Geez, people wanted the thing toned down, not crippled. I guess getting back my dust will be nice; there are other epics I need.
Changing the cost would not change nothing since this costed 0 really fast.
I think this is a good change, the card is not completely garbage, its still playable in some niche deck like a beast archtype, evolve shaman, and as a tech against token decks.
Of course it is not strong anymore and probably it does not make the cut even in those decks that I mention, but you have to understand that not every card must be a highly competitive card, this is not how a ccg works.
Even knowing that is clearly the stronger nerf, and even in the case that the card it is not playable competitively anymore, it is now reasonable well designed (not before, since it was broken). Warsong commander was an example of a not well designed nerf. The card would be a gimmicky one as a 2 drop actually.
They are learning how to nerf cards, in my opinion.
I personally love Control decks, and therefore hate cards like Creeper. But man, a 0 mana 2/5 on like turn 5 or whenever it’s discounted enough isn’t even that good. I don’t understand why they didn’t just have it be discounted when your minions died.

Not worth playing anymore, but I'm happy about that.

It's not a nerf, it's a murder.

This hits Tempo Rogue quite hard, but my other self is happy to be relieved from the necessity to fit stoopid worm in nearly any deck...

gg the end of this card to see any competitive play most likely.
Went from top tier to bottom tier in one nerf.

Top deck is cheat
this card might still see play IF Patches wasn't nerf but now both got nerf so i'm not sure ,even 0 mana 2/5 on turn 4-5 sound not too strong
RIP (probably)
The opposite!! if you are an evolve chaman you would always need this card to mix it with inestable evolution
Geez Blizzard. The nerf was as simple as restrict Creeper's effect to your own minions. Turning it into a 2/5 completely kills this card's viability.
Why are people sad about this nerf? Yes, the card is dead as it fucking should be. Cards like this have no place in this game.

I thought they'll make it 4/4... This is quite silly nerf.. They could make it at least 3/5 card, so it could be playable at least for some hunters
