This is disappointing simply because this card was a great utilitarian include but not over powered. Any good deck synergy five drops would have pushed it out of its slot.
This is exactly why it's the right move. Like pre-nerf Novice Engineer, there was simply no downside to playing it. No one would argue Novice Engineer was broken, but it was too ubiquitous. Ditto for Azure.
And good synergy 5 drops were being pushed out. Basically Belcher (busted), Loatheb (busted) and Thunder Bluff are the only 5 drops that saw legitimate play instead.
Except the reason it was played (novice and Azure) is that there was no good card draw except these cards.... and there should be good card draw! Good card draw makes epic plays, control and an interesting game more possible. The reason people play these cards is it allows them to construct a deck where their powerful deck interactions work, because you can reach further into the deck. So this will just increase the advent of curvestone. Instead of nerfing Azure drake they should be including more draw cards that are viable.
Love the change, It means I can still keep playing it in Wild and it finally might give me a reason to play Standard again with new deck building opportunities. I do think its better than render it unplayable like they have done with other cards before (ex. Molten Giant).
I feel this rotation will have a bigger impact on the meta than the rotation of any of the other cards. It's so widely used that it's impact cannot be overstated (regardless if you thought it was an overrated card or an overpowered card).

Obviously. That doesn't defeat the point, though. Its the reason why things like Smuggler's Copter or Pot of Greed gets banned. When it appears too often because it's doing the same thing too well for all the classes, it diminishes diversity.
The problem is not that azure drake is too strong - but that the other neutral 5 cost minions are severely underpowered. Disappointing move.
It was never gamebreakingly strong but it managed to stay competitive for years what kind of speaks for itself. I am glad though that they did not nerf it. It is a classic card and should stay as it is in wild.
It's great. I hope next year they just remove the classic set from standard entirely. Azure Drake has been THE five drop since beta. The only cards to consistently get the nod over it were prenerf sylvanas and sludge belcher, two of the most absurd cards to ever see print
"There should be more five drop options for players, rather than considering Azure Drake an auto-include."
THEN WHY DIDN"T YOU MAKE ANY MORE!??!?!?!
GAH! I DON"T UNDERSTAND THESE DEVELOPERS!!!
They are removing one of the only good spell damage cards in the game. BY THE WAY there are only TWO. Azure and Thalnos, and Thalnos is a legendary! Spell damage is a control/combo mechanic, not an aggro mechanic, so WHY ARE THEY TAKING OUT CONTROL/COMBO TOOLS!?!?!?!!?
This will make Wrathion much of an auto include for the sake of card draw for anyone wanting to run a standard dragon deck, though standard dragon decks might be a bit dead depending on what the new expansion brings.
When it was pointed out that he was a moderator, yes, I changed my mind-set. Still fairly new to the site.
But was I being a dick? I do not think so.
Was it too much to ask for someone to copy and paste a link? I do not think so.

I love this change, this will open some deck variances! Every midrange (and most control) will have 2 extra (1 in reno) diferent cards now!
But, with this change I hope that some cool 5 drops comming also some other options of draw (2~6 drop preferable)
pretty shame 1 of the cards i love the most
I'd prefer -1 attack or health nerf to rotting in the Wild dumpster.

Independent of what you think on the removal to wild, I think that they are handling the refund thing very fair this time! Big thumbs up for that!

Long overdue. This card is the strongest in the classic set. It completely fucks priest and it has been abused in shaman for a long time.
Good to see this card go.
Not a very smart move since there's not so much better cards for 5 mana for decks where Azure Drake usually is anyway.

I like to make cards and discuss game balance.
I enjoy when "No similar decks were found."
