I have recently been seeing all these "OTK" titled decks and wasn't sure what it meant, so I Googled it. Apparently it stands for "one turn kill". Now I may be a noob for not knowing this, but thinking about these so called "one turn kill" decks just doesn't make any actual sense.
One turn kill would have to mean that you kill your opponent in only one turn, aka your first turn. This was an actual thing in Magic The Gathering back in the day with ridiculous combos that were banned in tournament play.
Killing your opponent on turn 5,6, or 7 for instance in one shot or with a certain combo would actually be five, six, or seven turn kill.
Why then call these decks "OTK", making a false claim? Now if it was One Shot Kill.... I could get behind that.
OSK makes more sense to me, so that's my rant....thoughts?
OTK means one-turn-kill. Not Turn-one-kill. That would be TOK. But yeah, sometimes the term is also just used for "when the opponent cannot do anything any more" like with Quest mage which is essentially a two turn kill (but your opponent cannot take a turn in between the mages turns).
Besides, quest mage also wouldn't be a one-shot-kill since they need several fireballs (which makes it round about 5 shots to kill someone at full health). The only-one-shot kill I can presently think of is Divine Spirit / Inner Fire priest.
To be fair though, some of the tavern brawls have legit had Turn-One-Kill decks, specifically that brawl where spells cost your health instead of mana and that one where you picked two cards pre-Innervate nerf with Coldlight.
FTK: you kill your opponent in your first turn, this is what you're describing.
0TK= Zero turn Kill, you kill your opponent before your first draw phase. OTK= One turn kill, you 100-0 your opponent within the span of a single turn, regardless of which turn it is although ther are people that would argue an OTk is valid if you take an opponent fom 45% of their Health to 0 in a single turn because that's usually not possible during the games.
One Turn Kill is a Combination of cards which deal enough damage to kill the opponent from full health in a single turn. In Hearthstone, that means a combination of cards which when playing in a turn deals 30 or more Damage. It is simply a deck which can, from hand, deal that much damage in a single turn.
First Turn Kill decks are One Turn Kill decks, but they are specifically for the First Turn of the game. I played almost nothing of Magic, I played Yu-Gi-Oh instead, and we had a ton of OTK decks, and a bunch of FTK decks, where the FTK decks tended to always get hindered in some way by Konami to stop them from being effective.
This was solely because those were decks that basically didn't allow for interactions at all to occur, if you went first and were playing an FTK deck, you would win the game without the opponent ever getting a chance to do anything. I personally enjoyed thsoe decks because they were quite heavy on Technical play, but I fully understand their need to be kept in check, since there were no interactions for the opponent to take. These were trully uninteractive decks, not what people here in Hearthstone like to call uninteractive, which are simply Combo decks with plenty of interactivity that they just decide not to use.
A One Shot Kill would imply a SINGLE effect dealing a full kill. The Ancient One is a One Shot Kill, if the opponent hasn't conceded yet.
Considering there's exactly one way to get a turn one kill (corsair into patches into coin into unstable evolution into radiant elemental into nothing but charge minions all the way to King Krush), I think it's safe to assume that it's not confusing for OTK to mean "kill them in one turn" and not "kill them on turn one

Are there any Zero Turn Kill decks in TCGs aside from Exodia in Yu-Gi-Oh?
As for whether or not people want to consider an OTK something that doesn't fit it's definition, it is their problem, an OTK is a Combination which deals Full Health Damage to the opponent in a single turn from hand. If we are to look at this in Hearthstone, if your Combination does not deal 30 or more Damage in a Turn, it is not an OTK. There are no close enoughs.
I don't even know. I thought Zero Turn Kill meant your opponent rage quit before game begins

Haha, no. In Yu-Gi-Oh, if you draw your 5 starting cards, and they are the 5 different pieces of Exodia the Forbidden One, you can declare victory before you even draw the first card. It is turn 0 as no turn took place. This is the kind of win that happens once in millions and millions of games... It is purely Luck based, since you have no action at all to affect that game.
I don't play Yu-Gi-Oh so this is all gibberish to me xD
Yes I understand your points, and the grammar here being one turn kill vs. turn one kill...
Although, is it not technically a one turn kill then if I swing a 1/1 at an opponent with 1 health left? That would be killing them in a single turn. It's not 30 to zero, but still I think the term is loosely defined....does it have to specify dealing 20 30 or 40 damage in one turn?
Just critical thinking exercise about the definition of the term OTK

well technically this isn't legal, because there's no "in between turns" space anymore since 98 and they added some priority rules later but ehh it existed.

There's also a bunch of janky combos you can do in MTG, with things like flash hulk, where you kill your opponent before they get their first turn, and there is also probably ways to do it with storm, with some combination of power 9, but I haven't seen it before. While it may not be a zero turn kill, it's also possible to get infinite turns before your opponent with the combination of time vault, voltaic key, and a combination of power 9, but this isn't really an OTK as it is just a your opponent does not get to play.

I don't have something witty about this deck, I just like it because Malygos is fun.
I honestly have no clue what this dude is talking about.
A one turn kill is something where your opponent kills your entire health total in one turn. That's it. End of discussion.
I can call a deck anything i want, but most decks that are actual OTKs are called that because they are. What deck are you referring to that is called an OTK that isn't one? You gave zero specifics.
Just some food for thought here.

I prefer facing OTk decks than the aggro ones.
It is called One-Turn-Kill because you kill your opponent in one turn.
It would have been called Turn-One-Kill if you would be able to kill your opponent in turn 1.
The difference is the gramma.

TKO = Technical Knock Out
I think you confused one turn kill for turn one kill.

OTK = You kill your opponent in 0 turn, just with cards from your hand
TOK = Your opponent plays Mana Wyrm, Coin, Kabal Lackey, Explosive Runes
Exactly my point which I did comment on on the bottom of the first page.
Killing them in one turn, which will always happen, is OTK then. Call it Full to Zero or something.
Ok cool
