This deck is almost completely minions to get maximum value from the hand buffs. I chose cards based primarily on card text, as the bodies will inevitably become large throughout the game; No need to worry about that. There is only Acolyte of Pain here for card draw, but if you make a point of buffing them at least once or twice you can get two draws each at least in most cases.
One thing i really like about this paladin deck is it can potentially manipulate stats of enemy minions just as much as it does your own hand. Eadric the Pure is a perfect card for this deck, and meta, and i am finally enjoying it's value.
This deck is expensive if you don't have all the cards, but it's just as fun (or more)! This deck has served me well so far against decks like pirate warrior, dragon priest and jade druid, but i don't have nearly enough games played to tell you to take my word for it. So try it yourself!
I am of course interested in any feedback or thoughts you may have, and will gladly answer any questions as well.
Mulligan
Note: On turn 1, consider not playing Smuggler's Run or Grimestreet Outfitter immediately. You should try and play it safe when you can and use your hero power until turn 3 or so, then you will have drawn some more minions to get the most value. Obviously if you are getting pressured early this will not be an option.
Card Breakdown
Smuggler's Run | This is the only spell in the deck, two copies that is. I serves one purpose, to buff as many minions as possible. You CAN play this early, but i prefer to wait and draw a few more cards usually. |
Grimestreet Outfitter | This is Smuggler's Run as a battlecry on a 1/1 body. What's great about this is it is a very powerful effect, and yet easily combined with Brann. |
Aldor Peacekeeper | The meta is pretty aggressive, and also Jade Golems. Use this to neutralize threats when required. You may decide to discover more copies with a Scarab. |
Wickerflame Burnbristle | This is the heart of the deck in my opinion. Divine taunt is exactly what we need, AND it heals you. I crafted it just for this deck. |
Grimestreet Enforcer | Although it can appear to be a little slow, the body is decent and the effect can continue until they deal with it. This is a high priority target for your opponent. |
Eadric the Pure | I remember when this card seemed so underwhelming. It has a great effect but there really wasn't such a need for this card. Until now. This is your ultimate test! In addition to nullifying a ton of damage, the body is excellent for this hand buff business. |
Grimestreet Protector | This is a really cool card and i like it a lot. The divine shields give free trades and keep them up longer. |
Ragnaros, Lightlord | Ragnaros is a healing machine. Usually you will save this for a while until you really need to start healing up, by which time it will be huge. |
Tirion Fordring | A class paladin staple, however it's also a classic and highly anticipated hard-removal target. It can take the heat off of some of your other big dudes, though. |
Acidic Swamp Ooze | As this is a pretty weapon-heavy meta right now having an ooze seems mandatory. |
Grimestreet Informant | I like how this card enables us to choose something relevant to the match, and that it could be any class card. As this deck doesn't really run removal spells, this could be a cheap way to find them, and a cheap minion to buff. |
Jeweled Scarab | This is a key card here because there are many fantastic 3-cost cards to choose from. Like a lot. Ideally you will pick up additional Wickerflames, but you can also snag Brann or Sergeant Sally |
Acolyte of Pain | A great card-draw engine that increases in reliability with each buff. You may want to play one early to start filling your hand. |
Brann Bronzebeard | Clearly in it for battlecries, but the body buffs well. |
Earthen Ring Farseer | Has always been a valuable healing tool and i chose to play this because it can also target your minions if you would prefer to keep them alive. |
Cyclopian Horror | Many decks lately have been playing several minions. This can be a handy answer to some faster decks that rush you with small minions, especially with more stats. |
Second-Rate Bruiser | This card fits well because it is nice against aggro decks, and also can just be insane if it costs 3 mana with +2/+2 or more. |
Fight Promoter | I really like this card to fit some nice draw into a single slot. The condition is very easily met in this deck, and will often trigger itself. |
Soggoth the Slitherer | I've always loved this card, but it didn't get too much use. Now with being able to buff it by targeting it indirectly, this will be that card that absolutely frustrates your opponent. |
Please don't laugh at me lol, but I'm missing Ragnaros Lightlord, Tirion, and the second Fight Promoter. What would be the best replacements for those?
I've been messing around with Hand Buff for so long, I'm so happy to see one get some love on here! Super fun deck too!
Thank you for the feedback! Glad you enjoy it. Definitely check out the Walladin version of it, it is better i think :)
Have you thought of making a Reno/NZoth variant of the deck. Kinda have some theory-craft going, but I can't build the deck, not enough dust lul.
Hmmm not necessarily. I feel like if i want to play with reno i would do it with the kabal. Not saying you couldn't pull it off, but the thought didn't quite appeal to me.
hm i see. The reason I would consider a reno variant is not to be able to play reno, its more for surving/second chance. If i have any luck I'll let this thread know! Keep it up dude!
I know i put it in the guide area, but i am enjoying this re-built version of the deck way more than this one and i am going to leave it down here too! Having a shitload of taunt minions is actually really good it seems when you can buff them. What i like most is paladin has much better buff cards than warrior for this. I combined my enjoyment for taunt warrior and buff paladin and this is that deck! Good fun
Interesting idea with low stat taunts. Gnomeregan Infantry and Flying Machine in Wild is food for thought also.
Trying a variation on this desk. -1 Cyclopian Horror, -1 Soggoth, +1 Grimestreet Smuggler, +1 Don Han'Cho.
The theory behind this is, in my experience playing this deck, the snowball effect is the best thing it has going for it, so I added two cards that help increase that effect even more.
Yo ma I'm really liking this deck. But I wanted to do a variation on it that is unique to me and I want you to tell me what you think. It seems insane, but I added these three cards.
Crazed Alchemist, Kooky Chemist, and Coliseum Manager.
And keep in mind these are all "Two-Ofs" in the deck.
The idea is that the swap Health and Attack effects help greatly with minions with high Attack for trading or high Health for a good damage boost. For example turning Eadric from a 3/7 to a 7/3 can pack a mean punch.
I've noticed when I'm playing this deck that I rarely have any use for Hero Powering. If I'm not playing a card past turn 2 I'm usually dead.
So you play the Manager out on turn 3, it has a reasonable 2/5 body that turns into a hefty 3/6 when buffed. And when it is about to die after a good trade or two, bring it back to your hand for more buffs!
I love the idea of handbuffs, Paladin is my favorite clas but I think this cant be vibable and it hurts me. Its just too slow and minion dependant. Once you lose the board its over. Meh, I hope that they fix some thingsand revive paladin class. Meanwhile I will be playing wild where Paladins are still playable! Kudos for making a fun deck though!
I tried a version more controllish, with Wild Pyromancer, Equality and Concetration to help for the board. Still wont work.
why such high rating? this deck is horrible went from rank 9 to 15 as for fun factor its not even fun only card i enjoy is soggath and grimstreet protector waste of dust dont bother ppl i understand deck is not meant to ladder but craft a constant losing deck? i rather not just posted so ppl understand that this deck is garbage i gave it a chance and regret it ppl need to be honest about these decks christ
High rating? 37 upvotes?
Contrary to what you might believe, most people aren't quite so thick. That's all you bud.
the state of paladin that is a extreme high rating dont u see the lather of the decks on this sub reddit? paladin is a dead class
Nice layout Chimera.
I don't have Eadric, send help.
I don't have Soggoth (wish I did) and I'm not sold on Refreshment Vendor (I don't like healing my opponent) so in their place I have +2 Keeper of Uldaman. Ultimately, the point of all those cards is the same - damage mitigation - so that seemed like a good substitute.
Should be a decent replacement for Soggoth. I know what you mean about healing the opponent as well, but i think in a lot of cases it is negligible. With aggro decks you want to last long enough that they run out of steam. In longer games your win-condition is essentially big minions, so healing your opponent is not really a big deal because your damage potential only increases as the game goes on usually, unlike a hyper aggro deck in which the damage potential decreases every turn, and any healing can be a setback.
Of course it is best to play when your opponent has full health and doesn't benefit at all, but in general i think that it doesn't matter if you heal your opponent with this deck. It's a reliable healing card and you can double it because it is a battlecry. I may even try playing two of them at some point.
Most fun I've had with a Paladin deck in a while though, I'll say that. I know Pallies aren't in the greatest place right now, overall, but at least this deck makes us fairly competitive.
I don't know what to believe anymore!
