Last Update: 19.08.2018 Into the Boom labs. Cards replaced
Mulligan: Northshire Cleric ,Twilight Whelp,Duskbreaker ,Potion of Madness, Netherspite Historian, and Dirty Rat
I believe that this deck is Tier 2 in the Wild ladder right now just due to the fact that it can gain Control of the board really quickly while also developing a chains of value. Cards in this deck are the one of the best options that Control deck could ask for.
How to play against(Archetype Matchups):
Aggro: Against a board oriented aggro decks (such as Paladin) you are looking for gaining board Control. Dirty Rat on turn 2 is good play because the most powerfull minion that it can summon is Loatheb which is not that bad. With Netherspite Historians you are looking usually for Duskbreaker and Cheap Taunt minions. With Drakonid Operative you are looking for cards like Call to Arms and Muster for Battle. Against a burn oriented aggro decks like Aluneth Mage: Gain the board Control and start pushing face damage. Play around his Secrets and ALMOST ALWAYS heal your face
Control: We have some reasonable resources to stay alive. The most common Control decks on ladder are Control Warlock and Jade Druid. Warlock can be exhausted thanks to your late game cards and Jade Druid is absolutelly destroyed by Skulking Geist and Lightbomb. Brann+Netherspite+Drakonid Operative is one of the most powerfull value plays in game available.
Combo:
- OTK: Dirty Rats and Brann are here to help you win. Pull their combo pieces and destroy them. If its a Combo OTK deck like Inner Fire Priest varriations, then Control the board, make sure you have some taunts on board and Skulking Geist his wincondition.
- Mill: Dirty Rats shenanigans can again really help you. And futhermore: you have Arcibishop in the deck so their Mill plan really sucks.
- Highroll: You should be ok and this matchup is easily winable if you plan your turns. If we are talking here about Highroll Barnes decks, use Potion of Madness, Twilight Acolytes and Cabal Shadow Priest to drag them to the late game where you can start outvaluing them.
Most Important cards:
Brann Bronzebeard: Just look at that double Battlecry value from Drakonid Operative or Netherspite Historian and any other battlecry card in this deck. Unreplaceable
Medivh, the Guardian: Just use him with any high cost spell to make your opponent suffer
Skulking Geist Is your MVP in a meta where a 1 cost spells are really powerfull. In a Control game it also helps you to shorten your deck so you get closer to your more powerfull cards.
Netherspite Historian : Can help you with pressure in early game and help with legendary cards in late game.
Duskbreaker Is probably one of the best dragon cards ever printed.
Cards that are not so good in this deck(there will be placed a cards that people asked about in the comments and that really arent good in the deck ):
Deathwing: We do not want as a Dragon Priest play a card that discards our hand and destroys the whole board. You will use him in this deck very rarely.
Prince Malchezaar: It just really screws your card draw and it will rarely help you. Against Control we already have big threats and a lot of removals.
Chillmaw: Lets just say that any Priest 5+ AOE is better than this dragon.
Shadow Visions: While its amazing card in most Priest decks,in this however its not. In the most situations it will sit in your hand as a dead card because you will be bussy playing the other cards.
When to use Archbishop Benedictus ? Need to keep it until last turns or asap ?
Definitelly not ASAP. Depends on the matchup and the situation. Just time it right while taking into consideration the ability of drawing and not only yours deck but also opponent ones too. You need to know when you need the extended combined decks or when you need yours with Control tools and Dragon synergy. Arcibishop is basically anti fatique tool in Control matchups and your fighting force against Mill decks and Kingsbane decks. Against other matchups there are clears, board contesting and hand disruptions.
now you removed 2 entombs would ysera not be better then medith?
You can try it but Medivh have still insane highroll synergy with Free from Ambers. Also costing 1 less mana is really important for hero power and some cards like Dirty Rat or Netherspite Historian in late game.
I'll give this deck a go. I randomly got Benedictus in a pack a while ago and I am always looking for decks with him.
A wild streamer Dane made a deck focused around Benedictus and Dragon Soul and its sometimes nuts :D. You can give it a try too if you are looking for decks with Benedictus
Why only 8 dragons? In the dragon decks I have previously played I usually ran 12-14 dragons and I still sometimes missed the dragon for activations.
As I stated in the comments below this is more Control oriented decklist so with Dragon package I also included a powerfull Control cards. I keeped only the most powerfull Dragons and I still didnt face a problem of not triggering their effects. Just keep one of them always in the hand. Even drawing Ysera at first turns just automatically means ,that you are going to trigger their effects
hi wat about shadow visions they seem to good not to use imo cos you have no shrink spells or shadow word horror so its worth to lose the potions of madness to use the shadow visions also i luv starseeker but its to slow as always,,, you said its late win condition for wars but im not seen so many on the ladder and if i do they are only aggro anyway so for me trailblazer plays better than starseeker 1 last thing 2 entomb is to slow i mentioned this before i know but the meta change since then and 2 is still to slow so i drop 1 entomb and add a 2nd dragonfire you need the 2 really :D ok thats it im done so now i am interested in the authors opinion here thanks :D
Hi. Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry for not answering for so long. I was hitting the Grandmaster rank in Shadowverse and in Hearthstone I was messing around with Mine version of Highlander Priest and Demon Renolock. Anyway, I didnt forget about this deck and Im still updating it from time to time. Today Im gonna try a few builds and few replacements and tomorrow I will let you know how it went.)
ok thanks dragon be even better next expansion aswel :D
After whole day of trying a different builds on rank 5 EU I decided that the build that I made which included Medivh with Free from Amber was the most succesfull. I rather say now than later that its not a Dragon Priest that kills you on turn 4-7 because of the Inner Fire combo and Bonemares, its the one that just outvalues you.
You can win with this deck in two ways. First is trought the board flooding. Second one is by just value minios. And these are Ysera(Every Priests Nightmare) and Medivh(Atiesh with High cost spells is just bonkers). Sometimes the new Elise too
I made a lot of replacements. As you can see there is only one AOE now(Ysera's Awakens doesnt count). The deck is more focused on trading. I found out that Priest of the Feast and Unstable ghouls are just great. Free From Amber is good even without the Medivh. I also added more carddraw and early game in form of Clerics and PW:Shields. However,if you feel like you need to add Dragonfires, put them instead of Azure Drake and one Entomb. I agree, that playing two entombs might be greedy but I just cant help myself. :D
New Elise just works prefectly there. While Shadow Visions dont. I found out that in this deck it appeared to be a dead card in hand.
Im also looking forward to the new expansions. I cant wait to try out the new cards especially Dragons in all builds. Dragon tribe is my favourite and I remember even building such decks as Dragon Rogue or Druid lol xDDD
ok thanks for feedback to my questions i am remaking your deck to the recent changes except for this= -1 entomb - lightbomb +2 dragonfires and now ill stop questing things and just play hehe
Sorry to break it to you but Chilmaw makes sense only in Dragon Control Warrior to be honest. Othrewise this card sucks and its good sometimes only against aggro and whe you are far behind against aggro.
So with the new updates as of August:
I'm curious what your definition of the Dragon Priest "shell" is. A lot of pros and other deckbuilders would argue against running 2 of each Shadow Word and swapping in a Shadow Visions. Something else that stands out to me is the lack of Blackwing Corrupter.
Have you tried with Elise Trailblazer as well? The issue with Golden Monkey is that there's not a lot of high value legendaries lately. Not that Un'Goro pack is any better but I feel it'll be more consistent. Curious on your thought process when making the choice.
Hello. I ve been testing this deck again in last few days with some changes. The guide will come soon and I will explain you my vision of Dragon Control Priest.(Just wanna point out that this deck is supposed to be Control and not Midrange
2 entombs are to slow -1 and+dragonfire potion :D
I can see Dragonfire be playable in this deck instead of Entomb in this meta :D
I got a question here...why Talonpriest instead of Dark Cultist...? I mean isn't Cultist strictly better...? (legit question here not meaning to judge)
Why do you think it is better in non Nzoth deck than Talonpriest? Talonpriest has synergy with Brann. It is better than blackwing technician AND his effect is less random because you are choosing who are you want to buff :D
