Poor stats, a 2-4 could have been better. Anyway, if for some reason chamans get a new totem with a deathrattle effect this could actually be ok. Maybe a 0 mana 0-2 Deathrattle: Draw a card
I realized the reason its a totem cruncher is because it looks like a beaver. Beavers chew wood, most totems are made of wood. Nice.
Also, the card is interesting, not super powerful but could be pretty niche. Still very susceptible to turn 5 removal but playable.
In standard, I don't feel like this card has a ton of potential. Sure there are some cards that are still going to be around at the turn of the expansion like Primal Talismans, Kobold Hermit and Windshear Stormcaller, but all of these cards aren't really that great and Totem Cruncher isn't going to add to that.
However, in wild, I feel this card could be pretty strong. Not only does it get access to cards like Wicked Witchdoctor which is absurd at generating lots of totems, but also Thunder Bluff Valiant, Thing from Below, along with Totem Golem which itself is a strong totem. Having played a wild totem shaman mainly for memes (and quests), it's surprisingly good at estabolishing a big board of totems and then preserving it, via cards like Primal Talismans and to a lesser extent, Primal Fusion. Despite the deck being incredibly reliant on Bloodlust or Thunder Bluff Valiant in order to win, the deck was still pretty fun to play, and this card fits right into it. While I don't think this card is going to make that deck genuinely viable, it still is a pretty nice card and wouldn't surprise me if it can be a 6/7,8/9 or a 10/11 in a deck like that.
Holy crap this might be the card that Totem shammy been lookin for, Hell this is even good without being in totem shammy. just eats one totem it's a 4 mana 4/5 which is average but two totems and it's a 4 mana 6/7 which is freakin powerful and normally shammies have roughly 2 totems around at all times thoughout the game 2 totems is very easy to have on the board unlike the stormcaller getting 4 is near impossible and very niche to do 2 totmes... ESPECIALLY when it's any totems not just basic totems mkes it pretty good as sometimes that mana tide can cause you to draw slightly to much or just draws one card or 2, after that it could just be sacked for the +2/+2 stats same with the primal fin totem kinda eats up room fast.
with all tht said i don't think this card will be used in a deck that uses the... actual totem cards because those cards you wouldn't want to be eaten.
Alright, Even Shaman is looking a *little* less troll than before...
He seems angry AF. Well, eating totems (wood) must not be very tasty.
Guess Blizzard hates totens now, thats why Shaman gets 2 Heroes and now this card
Damn, I was hoping this would be a 3 mana minion so that you could potential hero power on turn 5 and at least be "OK" tempo-wise. It was obvious from when we learned the name of the card that it would likely destroy totems to gain stats, but I kinda like the version I theorized about better.
For those who don't want to track down my old comment, I suggested this be a 3 mana 3/3 minion with Battlecry: Destroy all Totems to gain their stats and abilities. And while the official Totem Cruncher gains better stats per totem destroyed, my version had the baseline of 3 attack, could come out on turn 3, not to mention gaining the abilities of the totems you sacrifice could make the minion quite versatile. Even with just 1 basic totem you would end up with a 3/5 with Taunt/totem ability or a 4/4. Also worth mentioning I said ALL totems, which include your opponents in those rare situations where you're facing opposing totems.
Oh well, it was a fun idea. At least the official version has Taunt by default.
Well, if you use him in a Genn Greymane deck, you can use him with totem on turn 5
True but that's a specific deck archetype, whereas I was kinda hoping that turn 5 play would be viable for any Shaman deck. Not saying it would be the strongest play, but at least it would be something Shaman could do early :/
If this hits nothing, it is a 4 mana 2/3. If it hits one, it's a 4 mana 4/5 Battlecry destroy a friendly minion, a straight downgrade from Yeti.
It's a +2/+2, but this comes at the cost of destroying 2-3 stats off the board, so it's really +2 stats per Totem. In that regard, for this minion to break even, it has to eat at least 3 Basic Totems (remember, you're losing their base effects), and probably 4 to be worth it. And non-basic Totems? Don't even bother.
It's not that this card is too slow, but there are very few instances where playing this card is actually a worthwhile effect.
It's not straight downgraded Chillwind Yeti because this one has Taunt. 4 mana 4/5 Taunt is pretty good. Some Shaman decks don't care about their totems, it's their passive move. There are also plenty of card to generate extra totems, so it's not very hard to crunch 2 or more totems and get an OP minion on the board.
Last expansion it was all about trying to keep your totems around. Now they're trying to push you to get rid of them. Good work Blizz.
Why not? first you keep them around to get advantage and get use out of Windshear Stormcaller
then you get yourself more room on the field and call this guy.
Neat idea, however, it's niche and unlikely deck to happen or gain attraction.
Yeah, because the Windshear Stormcaller battlecry happens all the time.
Did you ignore the last sentence I said?
Do you understand sarcasm? ;)
yes, that it is the lowest form of wit ;)
So you did understood my comment but decided to ignore it? Smart.
I refuse to sacrifice my Nightmare Amalgam!
