It's your boy here, one of the biggest doomsayers for Hearthstone and the creator of this topic.
First and foremost I gotta come clean and say I have only played three games of Artifact so far! I'm a bit surprised that my initial hype died even a bit earlier than the actual release and I haven't been sucked into the game more. On the other hand I actually feel that Hearthstone has stepped up it's game by a mile! I mean Blizzard has done the bravest thing they could have done with the previous two expansions by not upping the power level AND now nerfing many oppressive decks. Hearthstone seems to be in the right track again and I love it! :)
Artifact definately has had a rough start but I still hope that people would give it a chance and I sure will play it more and maybe even switch mainly to playing it in the future because it definately caters much more to my needs as a more serious card gamer. I just haven't been able to pour my life and soul to a completely new system just now, but when the stars align I'm ready! :)
I didn't come here just to talk about my own life and bore you to death with that, but I come bearing news. Artifact has had two major updates since launch: first they targeted the community aspect by adding chat and emotes, then yesterday they did the thing most people have been screaming for https://playartifact.com/news/1714081669510213123
They added a progression system and a way to acquire packs and portaits and tickets! To me this wasn't actually a that big of a wish, but for the majority of players this is HUGE! Also they ate their words about never nerfing anything and tackled a few troublesome cards in the same go.
To top things off and because I believe many people already "quit Artifact for good" I can't emphasize enough that the market prices have dropped dramatically since launch. It irks me that because during the first week of launch the prices for constructed cards were like 40-50 bucks people still feel that the game is "teh most expensive thing in teh world after gold itself". The last time I checked the price for the most expensive card was 10 dollars! And I'm quite certain the prices have dropped even further after that. And even if you wouldn't consider paying ANYTHING beyond the initial purchase there is still free phantom draft so you wouldn't have to pay a single penny more to be able to play the game.
Overall I hope Artifact would rise from the ashes and become a viable option at least for the more experienced card gamers. More genuine competition is good for the customers in the end!
I love being able to buy a deck for 2 or 20 dollars. If Magic had something similar, I would comeback for sure.
I am interested on seeing how these changes will affect the market. I expect a drop in prizes (that we were already seeing, with Ax falling from 30 dollars or more to like 6 dollars). Prizes were affected by two facts: 1) No free packs and, especially 2) No nerfs (so far the only thing they had said about nerfs is that they didn't want to do them for obvious reasons).
I will play again for sure and see how the meta changes. As I have said is a game I like, but the complexity and game length make me want to play 1 match a week instead of 5 matches a day like HS.

I would guess supply is really high with many ppl cashing out from a dying game, while demand is much lower.
Artifact really looked intriguing to me, but its whole economy is weird, and it was lacking incentives to actually play the game. Also no free way to try it out hurt it a lot imo.

Actually just checked the prices and the Most expensive card Axe, is now 5,60€. Not bad. With the majority of cards costing 0,10 I could get a couple of top notch decks quite cheap!
Also regarding the free trial thing, people can try it out for free by playing the free game modes. If you don't open the packs you get in the initial purchase you can claim for a refund. (Or atleast this was the case at launch, and I'm not aware if it has changed)

This. With the exception that Artifact is not a dying game, it already has loyal core base that isn't going anywhere but ones who got there because of initial hype are bailing out and want some steam $ for the Christmas sale. And they (huge majority of them) aren't coming back ever.
They did a card balance patch while also including a leveling system and added a reward system for earning card packs. Too bad they didn't have any common sense in Beta to implement this.... too little, too late.

https://steamcharts.com/app/583950 Concurrent players keep declaining. Right now it hovers around 4.5k at peak hours and 2.2k at lull-horus. Look pretty dead to me unless they pull a Warframe.
Do NOT buy this game. It is a very obvious scam. I refunded this after an hour. I paid almost $AU27 for this game, finished the 2 game tutorial vs bots and was told to claim my reward, 2 starter decks, 5 event tickets and some other stuff. At the very bottom in small print, the game tells you if you claim your starter items you give up your ability to refund the game. I declined claiming the items so that i could try the game out a bit first before deciding if i would commit. And.... you are locked out of any social modes, competitive or casual until you claim your starting items and tell valve they can bend you over. Red flags.
I've seen the gameplay and played it with my friends. And man, game has been great at first. Interesting gameplay concept (except for random attack targets and creeps placement) and card design with my favourite dota characters. But for some reason Valve abandoned the game and left it with no incentive to play. This should've been an early access game.
Valve has shot themselves in the foot this time, just like all other major game company in 2018 including Blizzard with Diablo immortal bullshit.
Artifact just nerfed and buffed some cards, added some kind of progression with rewards (including packs).
Next step, some kind of FTP.
Hoy!

This has been axactly the case for me as well. But my gaming itch for a deeper experience has started to tingle again! :)

Way too late imo. If they only added it because of community outrage then it just tells me they dont know what the fuck they doing.
Also, I checked it and it's not like regular rewards for playig, but they implemented only few one-time rewards. Not enough for a dying game.

Artifact officially leaves top 100 most played steam games.

Wow there's some niche no-name games on that list, as well as stuff over 10 years old.
Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.

Nobody is gonna pay 20 bucks for a right to pay more. They certainly threw me and my friends off with such buisnesmodel
My opinion is entirely subjective, but this game is not exciting at all and is not worth more than that.

Artifact, the Hearthstone killer playerbase is down by 97,5% and still declining

Still more players than Gwent xD
Ahh feels so good ... where are all those guys now that were shitting on HS and claimed that Artifact would kill HS. Really feels so good
