My change is this: What if instead of summoning a copy of a minion in your deck, Barnes would instead summon a 1/1 actor tok... wait what? You're tired of reading the same copy-and-pasted "original Barnes nerf"? Well good, I am too. That's why I have created a separate, (hopefully) original idea.
My actual change is this: Summon a random minion from your deck. It becomes a 1/1. So instead of summoning a COPY of a minion, Barnes would straight up "recruit" the minion from your deck. (For any of you wondering why I didn't just use the Recruit keyword, Barnes came out during One Night in Karazhan and the Recruit keyword didn't come into the game until Kobolds and Catacombs, which came out over a year later.) For anyone still worried about the 1/1 popping back up from the resurrection pool, the minion that Barnes would summon would permanently be a 1/1 copy. Not even silencing the minion would change it back to its original stats.
So what do you think? Is it brilliant? Is is stupid? How would you nerf Barnes? Feel free to let me know with your response.
It's not super hard to code, but it would be inconsistent with the graveyard > board mechanics implemented so far in the game. Players disoriented, and developers with spaghetti code: a bad side-effect, to fix a card.
Barnes should have his cost straight up bumped to 6 mana. Big priest would remain a menace in wild but it would give more time before they get out of control, allowing to either kill them or play that new minion that fills up their board with 1/1s to pollute their resurrection pool.
At 4 mana its just a disgusting high roll I actually don't understand blizzard's reluctance to nerfing him
It destroys the card (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), because his whole purpose is erased. Neither BIG Priest, nor spell hunter would play the card you proposed. In the end, you could also simply make him cost 10 mana.
In general, I also think a mana cost increase to 5 or 6 mana would be the first way to go.
The biggest problem with barnes is enabling expensive minions very early in the game. The simplest and only neerf it needs is an increase in cost by at least 2 mana.

Here to punish the bad posts, so you don't have to.
Barnes doesn’t need a nerf, if he became 5 mana people would just stop playing him because Shadow Essence is better and he constantly messes up the ressurrection and shadow essence pool.

Check out my Earth, Wind, and Fire - Elemental Shaman deck!
I still feel like the actor token idea was the best anyone ever came up with. I mean Barnes wasn't even that much of a problem until they started pumping Priest full of Resurrect stuff. I remember when people ran Barnes to just get a minion with a good deathrattle, like Highmane or Kathrena.
The problem with Barnes was never the immediate efffect, but how Priest abuses everything that comes afterwards. If we got an actor token that merely copied the ability of a minion in your deck it wouldn't be a problem whatsoever.
It should be possible. What Barnes would do when played:
1. Summon a 1/1 token with no card text or anything. 2. Choose a random minion from the deck. 3. Copy the chosen minion's card text/abilities onto the 1/1 token.
Done!
If you Silence the token or Rez it, it will not have the enchantment from Barnes. It'll just be a 1/1 that does nothing.
We already have enchantment based cards such as Immortal Prelate and inheritor effects with Da Undatakah. You'd just have to tweak that a little along with the coding of something like The Voraxx (copying a card text instead of a spell) and you're done.
Shouldn't really be that hard. At worst they'd have to code some new functionality. Big whoop.

That would be the "actor" idea, but not the idea outlined in OP. The proposal was:
"Summon a random minion from your deck. It becomes a 1/1. So instead of summoning a COPY of a minion, Barnes would straight up "recruit" the minion from your deck. And this is more complicated. Probably still possible, but not as easy as copying the card text on a 1/1 token.
Nerf Barnes forum number one million. Congratulations.
I have a question. Why do you want to nerf cards which are rotated and you can play them only in some unimportant game mode which is played by minority people and it is called Wild for a reason that it is Wild?
I really like nerfs like the actor one and the one OP proposed.
it means that big priest can not abuse him, but it also means that a couple of fun dumb control decks that use him, can still use him without any draw backs.

With the topic of a Barnes nerf popping up in a recent QnA with Blizzard ( https://www.hearthpwn.com/news/6685-rise-of-shadows-developer-q-a-all-answers ) I decided to come up with a possible change to the infamous 4 mana actor.
My change is this: What if instead of summoning a copy of a minion in your deck, Barnes would instead summon a 1/1 actor tok... wait what? You're tired of reading the same copy-and-pasted "original Barnes nerf"? Well good, I am too. That's why I have created a separate, (hopefully) original idea.

it's impossible to code
This space is intentionally blank.
Summoning a minion itself as a 1/1 is not a bad idea, but i don't think resurrecting them as 1/1s is possible.
super hard to code, not gonna happen
It's not super hard to code, but it would be inconsistent with the graveyard > board mechanics implemented so far in the game. Players disoriented, and developers with spaghetti code: a bad side-effect, to fix a card.
Which is why Barnes should be relegated to (6) mana, and Shadow Essence to (7).
When it's not about OTK, mana nerfs are often all you need to slow down a deck right enough for others to pop up in the meta.
We need a card that wipes out graveyards and/or entire played history to stop stupid resurrection and replay mechanics.
Piloted Shredder, Knife Juggler, Mad Scientist, Dr. Boom
Need to be removed from this game

yea increase to 6 so we can mad summoner
My idea.

I think that just make him 5-6 mana will be enought

not possible with how the game works right now
I still feel like the actor token idea was the best anyone ever came up with. I mean Barnes wasn't even that much of a problem until they started pumping Priest full of Resurrect stuff. I remember when people ran Barnes to just get a minion with a good deathrattle, like Highmane or Kathrena.

I tried having fun once. It was awful.
How do you know that?

I don’t play wild (yet), so can someone explain to me just how bad big priest is?? Like what is a common turn 4,5 and 6 against one of them?
