I have quit this game and fully moved over to MTGA, but these are the posts that keep me coming back. I don't know why I enjoy your suffering but I do. Maybe it's because I know how shit this game is and will continue to be as it always has been. Maybe I just lack any pity for anyone who is willing to continue to support this game despite better options existing and to be excited for. How about instead of questioning why Team 5 continues to lack any design sense or care for what players like you think, you go try MTG instead?
I mean surely there is something there you will like. Do you like dragons? Zombies? Dinosaurs? Pirates? Merfolk? There is something there for everyone. I liked rogue a lot in Hearthstone, so I naturally gravitated toward the rogues in magic and playing tricky cards. I built a black and blue surveil deck on my own and have been winning. In magic, everything feels so open to exploration that I don't feel tied down to any card in the game like I did in Hearthstone where some things were just objectively better. It's been a blast for a casual card player like myself who just enjoys creating and seeing the magic unfold.
Not to mention the card quality is insane and Wizards has had 25+ years to learn from their mistakes. They seem pretty open to it as well and it's continually becoming clearer that whoever has designed these cards deeply loves playing magic themselves. As opposed to team 5 where it feels like none of these people actually play hearthstone.
I can't give you any answers for why Blizzard does what they do. Maybe it's growing pains? Maybe it's just that they don't care. Whatever the case. It's not something Blizzard will answer and that alone is reason to quit this game.
I play Magic (been playing for almost 10 years) and Hearthstone. Both games are good and have strengths and weaknesses, but it's not like Magic is the 'next coming'. It's interesting that you say that "...these posts that keep [you] coming back." If you're totally invested in Magic Arena, then why do you even need to post here? Why do you feel that you have to sell people on Magic? Your name speaks volumes. Like I said, Magic is a good game. Maybe let people try it for themselves and they can decide if they want to play Magic or Hearthstone (or both).
"...in Hearthstone where some things were objectively better." Really? There are many things (ever heard of Teferi? Golgari w/ Vraska? etc.) that are better than some other things (i.e. many of the NPE decks). I can only speak for myself, but I have been playing HS since 2014 and still enjoy it very much.
Well, everyone has his/her own opinion I guess. I read and post on the Magic Arena forums as well as here but I don't go over there to tell everyone that I really enjoy Hearthstone. For someone that has "quit this game and fully moved over to MTGA", you sure seem to still be interested in HS.
It is important to treat the disease and not just a sympton, so the question is: Is Aviana the disease, or is Psychmelon the disease? Personally I think Aviana is more of a problem than Psychmelon in the long run, and I don't see a need to hit two cards right now. It's possible that nerfing Aviana fixes the problem and Juicy Psychmelon wasn't really the problem after all.
None of the Aviana based decks achieved tier 1 or tier 0 status in the wild meta prior to psychmelon releasing. How is that interpreted as Aviana being the problem exactly? We can't just say that Aviana is the problem because was a combo/otk card because that isn't objectively looking at anything and is merely calling a card a problem if players dislike the combo playstyle.
Aviana was definitely an issue. Togwaggle Druid was one of the best decks in the format before Star Aligner came along and took that spot, while Maly was played a whole lot too. All of those decks continually shut down control decks unless you tech double rat and get lucky on your pulls or are playing some warrior/druid deck with tons of armor gain in which case Tog still screws you over. It's just like Quest Rogue or Giants Warlock. Nobody enjoys being highrolled, having absolutely no chance at winning a match the second it starts just due to the matchup, or relying on two layers of RNG (drawing rat and removal, pulling a key minion with it) to stand a chance. Aviana got nerfed because it warped the meta too much, even before Juicy was added.
Dirty Rat was meant to be the anti-combo tech. There is no point in having the card if people just want to nerf combos into the ground as opposed to actually using the tech. Against just normal non-star aligner Azalina/Togwaggle druids psychmelon actually made it really consistent to rat out a combo piece and instantly win the game. Togwaggle druids can't afford to lose any combo piece (unlike Star Aligner) & if the druid used psychmelon then even with a 10 card hand that means the druid has almost half of their hand that they can't afford to lose, and that is also assuming that all 10 of those cards would all be minions. I really only saw people losing to the deck before psychmelon was a thing if the opponent simply couldn't be bothered to include Dirty Rat in their control/combo deck at all (which really is a wild staple with all of the N'Zoths, Kazakus, & Renos out there.
Back to the initial topic of the thread, it seems like not nerfing the melon was very much a financially-based move. After all if you see T5 nerfing the new sets you are more likely to feel put off about sinking in $40, $50, or more dollars on packs just to get weakened cards, and wild ends up the whipping boy, so to speak, for that profit to be made. As far as the community reception, and more players wanting Aviana or Kun nerfed, as opposed to the melon, I feel that stems mostly from hating on combo playstyles, not about protecting the identify of the new melon.

In the words of Maester Seymour, "Why are you still here sir?"
@OP Few have the courage or integrity to admit they made a mistake and instead, hold fast the ignorant belief that sustained denials will alter the truth. Team 5 is no exception, in fact, is a textbook example of the pitfalls of the ego and groupthink.
Aviana-Kun was a mistake right from the beginning. If people fail to understand that nerfing Aviana helps to deal both with current broken deck and future broken decks (there will be new survivability tools, there will be new drawing tools, there will be new minions you want to play for 1 mana as a part of a combo) then they can't see ahead and have no imagination.
This nerf is very good for a long-term health of the wild. Now I want to see Y'Shaarj nerf. - recruit minion with the same or less attack would be a really nice way to fix it for good.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
UI rotates soon, that's why
